have you thought about rolling out between two battens of known thickness? It's how one does clay when making square pots. That way you would have some consistency in the thickness of the pellets.

Hi Den…a very informative video! I did however, misunderstand the concept of the “mix” as I thought it involved chicken layer (or micro) pellets. As I’ve got a 25kg sack of the chicken layer pellets, I thought this would be a novel way of using them! I have used them on the hook, as I use Fox Edges Arma Mesh (same as PVA, but doesn’t melt) to make 10mm “parcels” for the hair/hook. That said, I’ll give your mix a go!
@brian12043 жыл бұрын
You could certainly soak the pellets and mix them with some egg and flour as your base mix.

I use the chicken layer pellets covered in Turmeric as loosefeed Stephen. That way, you can put a Durable pellet of whatever size on your hook. Simply cover the pellets with cold water and drain it off immediately. Then add some Turmeric and shake vigorously. The Turmeric sticks to the pellets and the small amount of water they absorb makes them get a little larger and less hard.
@christhomas8563 жыл бұрын
Very interesting well done, you could add the ground down egg shells to the mix - Calcium- plus a few drops of attractants other than that it is an excellent base for any variations on the theme thank you!

Just tried them out but changed the indigents into a boilie mix, Fish doesn't like turmeric over where I fish so I changed the flavor with strawberry changed the color to pink and added sweetener to it. It was just like how I would make boilies but with less cooking time, I made them the size of a bread slice and cooked mine for only 90s, pulled them out and let them dry for 1-2hours and put them inside the freezer and it was ready for the next day for fishing.

Will be upsetting the wife with my cooking of "Dens Bait" But always worth a try. BTW if you use 2 strips of wood either side of the rolling pin it will keep thickness the same. (You could even print them off on your 3d printer) My last trip I managed to drop 3 of my punches in the water. So being tight I looked at leather punches and they were quarter the cost and all I needed to do was Dremel a slot in the edge.

Spot on Den. I used to make my own 5mm boilies for F1 carp fishing. The idea was to make them as hard as bullets so they lasted as long as possible which was around 1 hour in summer temperature water. Each one was rolled in the palm of your hand making it a tedious job, they worked fantastic but became too much like hard work to make. Right Den a question if I may, what is the purpose of the turmeric, is it to colour the mix or to act as a attractant?
@FishingwithDen3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments Malc. The Turmeric is used for both of the purposes you mentioned. I don't like very white groundbait being on the bottom. The Turmeric could however, be changed to Trout Pellet Powder or some other ingredient as required. You could even try things like Coffee or Garlic to colour and flavour the pellets instead of the Turmeric.
