I used to use the Kingsling for all my loop knots but will try the non slip loop knot. I fish a lot of stained waters, do you know if this works well tied with braid? First time viewer. Excellent demonstration and explanation. Keep up the good work.
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 ай бұрын
Hey @20oldenough... thanks so much for the nice comment and questions. Honestly, if you are tying just straight to braid I'm not sure a loop knot matters so much because the line is so malleable and doesn't have any memory. Id really recommend this knot for your mono or fluoro leaders. If you are tying this knot directly to braid just make sure you at least double the wraps because braid is so much lower in diameter that flouro or mono, you don't want the knot to slip. The non slip loop knot's main advantage is that its a weedless knot that allows the lure to move a little free-er than, lets say a palomar knot, however, it is not the strongest knot out there, so make sure your drag is set appropriately and if your using braid you double your wraps. I hope this helps... thanks again, and so glad you found the channel!!

Congratulations on your newborn. I like to watch your videos I learn a lot from you. So my question is is the Cape May reef a good spot to go flounder fishing And are they biting.
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert!! Thanks so much for the kind words! And thanks so much for watching!! To answer your questions yes cape may reef is a good spot, but heavily pressured so I would have a plan B and C just in case fishing is tough... secondly it's tough to say if fish are biting in the future tense because the conditions and fish are always changing... fluke fishing has been really good last two weeks, so lately fishing has been good... just remember the lessons in the video, sometimes you need to wait for water movement for fish to become active and it's super important to find the structure and fish... rock piles, boulders, artificial reefs are all great spots for fluke... I hope this helps, please let me know if you have additional questions! Thanks!!

When fishing from a boat when do you lock the reel? When you hit the bottom?
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 ай бұрын
Hi @leomeilak6532... Not necessarily... when we first drop down we lock the reel when we hit bottom, then you do have to monitor you line... if your on a fast drift (the boat is moving fast) you'll have to let out more line to keep in contact with the bottom or to ensure you lures/bait is just off the bottom. For these fish their strike zone is really on bottom to a out 3/4 ft off the bottom. The important thing is to monitor you line, lures/bait and always make sure you are in the strike zone... easiest way to do that is to lift up on your rod and slowly lower it back down with the reel locked, if you don't feel the bottom, let out a little bit more line until you hit the bottom, then lock your reel again. Hope that helps!!

what line were you using?
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching @funkyFriday372... I always use 20lb or 15lb braid for offshore fluke/flounder fishing... I tie on a 15 or 20lb mono leader as well... usually Andes MONO... hope this helps... I go no heavier than 20 on either my braid or leader materials. Thanks agian.

What pound line do you use? Thank you
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 ай бұрын
Hey @kevinmedeiros9281 thanks so much for tuning and leaving a comment. It really depends... if I'm offshore fishing I use 20lb braid with 20lb mono leader. If I'm fishing shallow casting lures in the marshes and backwaters I use 10lb braid with 15lb mono/fluoro leader. I hope this helps... let me know if you have any more questions... thanks again.

I just got the qauntim reel how tight do you keep your drag?
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 3 ай бұрын
Hey @jason9592 NICCEEEE Hope you enjoy the reel... I actually just caught a bunch of big drum fish with that accurist and it did great on 50 and 60lb fish in heavy current... I always recommend setting your drag at 30% of the breaking strength of your line... so if you are fishing with 10lb test line, set your drag for 3lbs (at least to start) The accurist has a crazy capacity for drag, but no reason to have that drag locked out... Does that help?? LEt me know if you have any further questions. Thanks so much for tuning in and for the comment... REally appreciate it.

How many inches is the dropper loop on the squid rig ? You need to get that loop over the hook .
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment @gerardamitranno8837 Honestly, make the dropper look not just big enough to fit the hook and tubing through... the longer you make the loop the more increased chances you have with tangles... You see those videos on longggg t-knot rigs all the time, but those are tangle central. Hope this helps...

What would you use for a live lining spot or other bait fish thanks
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Timothy, thanks so much for watching and your question... if you are fishing in any decent current I'd go with the long leader rig I show at the end of the video, if fishing shallow water you can def use a jig head with live bait hooked through the nose, if your not in much current and fishing shallow I'd recommend just a slip float or Cajun thunder bobber with the hook set underneath to your desired depth... I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions... thanks again, have a great weekend.

Hi Johnny, I like to tie those rubber squid rigs. Not only are they good fluke rigs but they are deadly on sea bass and weakfish. I use octopus circle hooks when I target sea bass and weaks and I atttach a thin squid strip to the hook instead of a gulp bait. Works great! Thanks for the tips! Very helpful vid!

Hey JPN! Thanks so much for watching and nice comment! Makes my day! Yeah those tactics work great for seabass and weakfish! So happy to hear your having great success with it. The same rig also works wonders at 900ft for Tile fish! Such a great versatile rig... squid is a good choice in bait! ;) thanks again for watching! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the explanation of when to lock the reel. Another question is the choice of bucktails In deep or swift currents how do we use bucktails to hold down the rig other than just using a heavier bucktail?

Have you ever tried rattles on your fluke rigs??
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot Жыл бұрын
Hey PopPop Joe! Thanks so much for watching and the comment... Yes, I have used and do use rattles for fluke... I usually accomplish this with a few beeds or a rattle. However, I tend to focus more type of lure/rig depending on conditions to get the lures/baits in the strike zone, then on profile of the baits/lures (size and motion), then probably scent / colors... How about you? do you rely heavily on beeds/rattles? Or do you also focus on different aspects of your lures/baits? Thanks so much again for the comment!! And for tuning in!!

What's the best setup for fishing from shore??
@Johnnyfishalot
@Johnnyfishalot 2 ай бұрын
haha hey Bill... what a loaded question... I'm assuming you are flounder fishing from the shore?? in the surf? or in the back bay? or in the inlets or river systems? Not knowing exactly where your fishing, what you are fishing for, and how you are fishing... Probably the best all around set up is a St Croix surf rod 8ft (most versatile) I always go with a moderate action rod, and I'd recommend either a Diawa Fuego 3000 or a Penn Battle 3000 size reel... I left some links below if your interested (to make it easier for you). Hope this helps... thanks for watching! Hey Harvey... Thanks so much for watching and the comment... here's some of the tubes I use, I just order them off of amazon...
