Hey rod. I tried to fish a spoon for trout in a pretty big lake but no luck. I saw a school of trout and casted at them, none them bit my lure. Is it because they could see me?

At what stage (other than ice up obviously) would it become too late/cold to fish a lake like this in the fall/early winter? Or is there a "too late"?
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
When you have to start breaking ice with your boat. ;) This fishery is basically good until ice on.
@ScottyBphotography756 жыл бұрын
Too late when the oars won’t break through the shoreline ice anymore😉

Another nice video Rod!! Just need a wind filter on your mic!
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was particularly windy that day, even with the dead cat on the shotgun mic... I didn't have time to get the wireless lav mics set up, fishing was too fast. ;)

Hi Rod I noticed that you mentioned you were “marking” fish on the sounder. Were you marking them vertically or sideways? I noticed you were using a fishin’ buddy. Thanks!
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
Marking them vertically. That sounder is Jordan's. I use a Helix 5 which is amazing... Knowing the lake depth and how far off the bottom these fish are feeding at is really important.
@garychiang25686 жыл бұрын
Fishing with Rod thanks for that clarification. When I see people looking for fish vertically using fish finders then casting floating flys (which I know you were not) it always left me scratching my head.

Kamloops is a fishing epicenter! Perfect location right in down and so close to all the fish. Great Video as always. Can't wait for the ice fishing season up there.

Great video! Thanks, Rod. Any idea what lake that is, guys? Looks like Red Lake to me but I’m not positive. Would love to give it a shot this weekend if anyone can confirm the name of the lake. Tight lines!

I'd say your first instinct is correct. ;) Good luck if you are heading up.

@@FishingwithRod Yup that's pretty sweet for sure. Excellent quality. I've been looking at those but not sure I would actually use one and the run time seems kind of short.

No bait etc are permitted for this lake and you can keep fish if you wish.

I tried to visit Kamloops during summer but I ran out of time on my trip driving from California with a motorhome. Fall looks like a beautiful time to visit Kamloops. Down in the Sierra Nevada mountains at Lake Crowley when faced with fish keying in on daphnia we use a fly called agent orange. Great video Rod! Super cool drone shots that you synced with audio from the boat👍
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad someone noticed the syncing because it's pretty time consuming to do it, but well worth it! :)

What is the name of the lk ? Is it privately owned ?
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
This is a public lake. Just about all lake fisheries in BC with a few exceptions are available for the public. For lakes like this, the best way to find them is to go to www.gofishbc.com and do a search on stocking records. For this one, it's pretty easy to narrow it down by selecting "Region 3", look for lakes that are stocked with both rainbow and brook trout. :)

Watched this video for a 2nd time 😁 Have always heard about the great things about Kamloops. Really interested in the red holders you guys were using on the guides boat. What brand are they? Thanks!
@FishingwithRod5 жыл бұрын
They're spinning rod holders made by Berkley, but turn out to be great for fly fishing rods too. ;)

It just snowed here in Alberta : ( I'm thinking about switching to a bait caster over a fly rod now because getting 4 degree water on your hand in minus 10 weather is not fun. I guess I can throw some weight on the line and still cast streamers.
