Losing your fishing rod and getting it back reminds me of the time my wife lost one of her shoes on a huge lake in Idaho while being towed by a jet ski. It was gone. But 30 minutes later, after going all over the lake, we ran right into it, floating in the middle of the lake. It wasn't fishing, but just as funny.

OMG! This was Soooo fun. First time here! Early on, he jumps up as she nearly looses a rod. Later she tries to net a nice fish ... he has a gentle suggestion, but does not push ... then later his rod goes over the side. He wants to bitch, moan, cry, scream ... but he just chills, then regroups. She respects him enough to not laugh or ridicule. She just keeps quiet and feels his pain. Later, when friend says ... "I have something for you..." then says "I broke off the hook" I laughed so loud! Truly what a life partner/ fishing buddy AND fishing is all about!

That was great, losing the rod was priceless and getting it back even better. now I know if you lose a rod with an indicator that you should look for an indicator.
@FishingwithRod7 жыл бұрын
That doesn't always work! ;) It was pure luck that the fish stayed on the hook and kept the indicator afloat. If the fish was off, the fly and tiny split shot would have weighed it down and kept the indicator out of sight.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures7 жыл бұрын
how does the strike indicator float usually then with the fly and split shot? just saying cause that usually what's hanging below. as long as you have enough fly line out so the rod can hit bottom and float can still reach the surface it seems it should work.
@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures7 жыл бұрын
lucky to get stuff back though.
@FishingwithRod7 жыл бұрын
We were sitting in 25ft of water when that rod went overboard. If the indicator had come undone and started sliding up and down the line, it was unlikely that it would be close to the surface once the rod and fly settled on the bottom I think. It would only be up near the surface if the fly and rod are close to each other which gives enough line for the indicator to float up. Very lucky indeed...

You guys are hilarious! And I quote "....I don't care! Get the net! Get the net!" May I suggest one thing? Rod holders Rod! Ha ha ha! I'm curious, are those Kamloops/Gerrards? And to those that are worried about "outing the fishing holes", it's BC. There are thousands of lakes. One lake isn t going to ruin it. Plus up there, there's not that many people there. Oh, and Rod. You are one lucky sucker to be with Kitty. Now SHE'S the keeper! Fish On!

I fished Sheridan lake last year. Unfortunately it wasn't a productive trip. Most of the fish were down deep and we didn't have down riggers and we were not set up properly. Wow, love it!! Definitely need to start using chironomids! Any suggestions on good ones to use in these lakes? Planning a trip soon!
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
Tom Wild That really depends on what’s hatching on the day when you are there. That’s why many lakes fishers have boxes of flies to match the hatch whenever possible. That said, there are some consistent patterns which you should have and they usually would do the job.
@tomwild924 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithRod I best buy a box full of chironomids then! Do you just use that with an indicator and that's it?
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
I would get perhaps two of each pattern in case one works really well so you have a backup. #14, #16 chromies, antistatic with red/black/brown rib, black with red rib, olive.... These are all pretty regular ones that produce. You'll need enough leader to get the fly down to where the fish are (a couple of feet above the bottom) under the indicator.
@tomwild924 жыл бұрын
