especially good is the music played when Dr Mayfield sets up his colleague to be operated on again. Incredible.

Great music and fantastic episode. One of the few where Columbo loses his temper and clearly has animosity towards the killer. Classic!
@fishman37863 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was a very powerful scene. Mainly because, as you alluded to, I had never seen Columbo lose his temper in an episode before that one. The only other one I remember in which he came close to losing his temper was the Hospital waiting room scene between him and Robert Conrad.
@bobbydazzler86843 жыл бұрын
@@fishman3786 Yes, there's that one also. Although I think that one is more of a tactical ploy to try and shake his alibi. In case of Nimoy's doctor, Columbo is genuinely mad at him and wants him to know it. Although again he is trying to goad him into making a mistake. Columbo is a smart man.

You are spot-on. Columbo loses his temper and Nimoy - in the great tradition of Spock - looks back at him impassively as Columbo slams his fist down on the desk. Goldenberg's music enters at precisely the right moment and the whole thing just sings.

I remember this with the great Leonard Nimoy. Columbo got him in the end - great!!! Hard luck, Spock. More super-duper Goldenberg - thanks.

Thanks Fish Mane one of my favorite Columbo episodes, Leonard Nimoy is brilliant !

You're welcome Darren. It's one of my favorites as well. Especially the part where Nimoy is sitting behind his desk and is laughing in Columbo's face, which causes Colombo to slam his fist down on the desk and yell at him. It's one of the few times I've seen Columbo lose his cool.

This is definitely one of, if not, my favorite Columbo scores!!! Loved Goldenberg's work. This particular score reminds me a lot of his Duel score, which would have been recorded probably a year or less before this was. Subscribed!

I still have a lot of episode's music to extract but I think this is my favorite so far as well. I've extracted quite a few or Goldenberg's film scores. It's getting to the point where I'm going to need to create a playlist just for him. Thanks for subscribing. :-)

3:15 - The good doctor prepares to use another kind of instrument--this time a tire iron! Awesome Billy Goldenberg score, who wrote some great music for the original pilot for Rod Serling's "Night Gallery", including the original title theme. Thanks, Fish Man!

Starting from 4:09, the music reminds me of Holst's Neptune.
@fishman3786 Жыл бұрын
I hadn't noticed it before but you're right, it does. Neptune is my all-time favorite piece by Gustav Holst. I also very much like Choral Hymns from the Rig-Veda by Holst.

Columbo is not just smart...he is deviant. That trait trips up his guilty killers. That is what made this show so fun to watch and enjoyable. You could always count on that trait to come out on all the episodes. Blending the music here right into another scene a different approach but nicely done. Some of this music came from Duel also scored by Billy Goldenberg I recognize it form that movie. The director on that movie wanted mostly noise and no score. There is overtones here I can hear.

Does anyone know what music plays at Dr Mayfield's house while he's entertaining guests?
@johnmanier79683 жыл бұрын
Part of it was the closing music to Ransom for a Dead Man.

I always need to check who the killer is in each episode to remind me whether I liked the music in context. I never remember the episodes by title (although I like Goldenberg and Melle's contributions so I stay on these guys). Thanks for posting these!
