FishOfHex Aquatics do you use an air stone of any kind in your display?
@BartonHNewell6 жыл бұрын
One of the biggest things that you kind of touched on with 'emergency' stuff but missed, was having salt water ready, mixed, and good to go if an emergency change is needed. This has saved me a couple times now, and it's as simple as keeping a brute trashcan, lid, heater, and circulation pump in a closet.

This was an awesome video Travis, this is exactly the kind of thing I think people are looking for. My tip for you: BUILD A SUPPORT NETWORK! MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE AROUND YOU IN THE HOBBY, AND BE COOL TO THEM. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU COULD USE AN EXTRA SET OF KNOWLEDGEABLE HANDS, COOL FRIENDS SWAP FRAGS AND HELP OUT WHEN YOU MIGHT HAVE A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT GO DOWN. AND LASTLY ITS ALWAYS NICE TO HAVE SOMEONE YOU CAN CALL WHEN YOU`RE OUT OF TOWN OR WHATEVER THAT KNOWS YOUR SETUP AND SHARES YOUR PASSION. My .02.

Heater issue killed my very first tank as a kid. Wyoming winter when your 40 plus miles from the nearest store = certin death. I now have 3 on stand by heater for my current setup. Hahahahaha

I’d love to learn more about adding my tanks to my insurance. So based on what you said that sounds like it would pretext the tank and equipment but what about the house? Mine are on my first level (I have a basement) and if they blew out my house would be... well in a lot of trouble to the point I don’t know the extent of damage. Do you know more on the details of that? I plan on reaching out to m insurance provider today about it.
@FishOfHex6 жыл бұрын
I told mine that i had this size system in this location of my house and i would like to add coverage to protect my house if it would ever leak. Basically water damage and they they charge you based on the amount you want covered.

How do you quarantine your fish? I’ve recently bought a Hippo Blue Tang, Yellow Tang, and a Copperband Butterfly. Although they have no white spots I’ve already noticed the hippo flashing against a rock so I began dosing with ich x. My question is how long should I treat for? Do I really have to do a water change every day that I dose? Also Is there any other medications you recommend me to preemptively treat? Thanks in advance
@reefingreimagined11325 жыл бұрын
Hey, I definitely want to quarantine my fish and coral when I get them especially because internal parasites and flatworms just killed half the stuff in my tank yet I cant, because my parents don't want me to set up another aquarium. Any suggestions to help reduce the risk of these without quarantine? I think dips might work for the corals.
@KN-ko8ez2 жыл бұрын
Dips and close visual inspection for the corals, for sure. If you have a good relationship with an LFS, maybe you can ask them to put your fish in a QT for you.

Ur tank is absolutely beautiful and nicely set up! . I do notice that u don't have much live sand or substrate, its almost bare bottom. Any reason why you went that route? I'm new in this hobby and about to set up my main tank n still in the process gathering info.

Quick question if you could. I have recently added a chaeto reactor to my 25 gallon. With in the next couple of days my LPS coral have only been opening around half way. It has been around 2 months and nothing seems to be improving. My Sps however seem to be doing well. Parameters such as Cal,Alk,Mag etc have been the same with little deviation. Any Ideas?? Much appreciated.

FishOfHex Alrighty thank you! Im at just the very beginning of the saltwater aquarium hobby. Collecting as much info as I possibly can by reading, watching videos and talking to my local saltwater aquarium stores. I know i want to go with a tank at 120-125 and i know you said in a previous video that your sump tank for your 125 was 55 gallons. So my question is for your 55 gallon was it the glass tank sold at petco? Because I know the one they sell is tall instead of wide and im not sure what is better. A wide sump tank or a tall one?
@FishOfHex6 жыл бұрын
It was the standard 55 sold at petco. Go with whatever fits best under your stand and make sure you can remove the skimmer cup without any problems.
