I’ve seen something similar to this recently. I fish a lake in northeast Texas that will produce fish up shallow and close to the bank and will usually catch a limit for a tournament out of it but most will be short .the same areas that produce fish shallow I’ve learned that if I pull out to where the water is about 5 to 8 feet deep I catch more and bigger fish.

Appreciate the detail of how you are using and marking the side scan brush piles. Going step by step is really helpful. I just started using Active target which has been really helpful at showing you where your cast and bait are in space. I am learning that my intuitive sense of bait depth, fall rate, etc were not particularly accurate. While seeing fish on FFS is helpful, the best benefit for me so far is improving the accuracy of my casting and seeing how fish respond to different retrieves.

My largest Grand Lake bass came on a Mann’s 30 plus working it like a jerk bait 😮🙀 long before FFS Probability in 18 to 25 ft. Once I touched bottom 😂 we started jerking upwards and cranking. The pattern stayed for us all year. (That year) it worked over many depths.

I enjoyed your prospective on the recent BTL. This is why I came here I would love to see your current set up on your boat..... FFS is just another "tool" like many others. I don't know why it has caused so much ire among especially older anglers. I think cost probably has a lot to do with it, especially in this tough economy....

on your sonar view the 'beam pointer' icon was showing it pointing at about the 5 o'clock position but you were clearly fishing out in front off the bow? I have Mega Live and it has a beam pointer icon but it's only in perspective mode, not forward mode. You have to turn on The AHRS function and have an external GPS sensor mounted on your boat but then it gives very accurate view of where your beam is. Hopefully they will be adding this to their forward mode. Edwin Evers recently posted a video on how to make one of those pointers to add to your TM to know beam position and it only cost $12 and takes about 10 mins. He even gives links from Lowe's to the couple of items you need. Way better than the $200 one I see being sold by some of the electronics boat companies.

Been doing this last few weeks but you need more than GPS, you have to have a heading sensor since orientation WILL not work when you stop. Every manufacturer make a heading sensor but you will need to have one or this will not work. Steadycast is the garmin unit, point1 is the lowrance unit...IMHO i added a mega 360 and then it shows me in relation to the boat where the structure is located. Ive been running deep crankbaits through the piles also, another good video.
@ilikerealmaplesyrup4 ай бұрын
wow bro. This is exactly what I need for my kayak. All these people with lock spot for off shore fishing. I use an anchor and I always loose my orientation unless I use a Bouey marker. This will be game changer for me on windy days with livescope.
@tombishop4704 ай бұрын
@@ilikerealmaplesyrup No problem, I just rigged a new boat and didnt have the heading sensor and when I stopped my map would spin. I learned that you have to have a heading sensor to keep the map from doing that when stopped. GPS relies on course over ground (COG), in order for GPS to get a fix the device has to be moving before it can get a heading. The light bulb went off for me when I thought about being in a car and if your sitting still the map doesnt know which direction the car is pointing and it doesn't correct until you start moving. The trick to correct that issue is to add a heading sensor which is a magnetic compass and then it uses that along with GPS and then even when stopped your map will be in the correct orientation. Each graph brand has a heading sensor that you can add and they are usually connected via NMEA network, probably not an issue if you only run one display but if you want to connect it to more than one unit you have to build out a NMEA network. Hope this helps anyone else wanting to know more about how to achieve this, only reason I know is I just did it. :)
@ilikerealmaplesyrup4 ай бұрын
@@tombishop470 I just have one garmin 93sv unit. So I don't need to network. At least I won't need my bouey anymore. This should help a whole lot. Livescope and the wind sucks. It also took forever to find my waypoints because if I went to slow it didn't really work and I had to go way out and approach it at normal speed and then drop the marker.

@tomrippen65704 ай бұрын
It’s likely that the darker bass was positioned over dark bottom and the lighter fisher over sand or similar light-colored bottom. Most fish possess this chameleon-like ability to blend in with their surroundings. Ever catch a blind bass? The few I’ve seen have been very dark in coloration.
@gwo8th2114 ай бұрын

I’ve never used the new fancy sonars. The bank is best to death. There is a line to fish docks. I’m not surprised it’s so efficient. People are finding fresh bass that don’t see the fishing pressure as the shallow bass do. I’ll be interested to see how long this bite lasts. Personally I’d much rather ban live weigh ins for fish than new gizmos.
@zachpatch84504 ай бұрын
It's already passed. As much as I love using the new technology, it's starting to get difficult. In my area, fishing the banks is pretty well beat to death.

How is this called flipping when you're just marking brush piles and casting to them?
@FishtheMoment4 ай бұрын
the concept between both techniques is the same. Shallow flipping is casting at trees and brush piles you can see with your eyes on the bank. Offshore flipping is casting at trees and brush piles you can't see with your eyes under the water. I'm just trying to help explain the topic in terms that someone who has never fished offshore would understand.
@ilikerealmaplesyrup4 ай бұрын
@@FishtheMoment I always thought flipping was grabbing the bait and underhand casting like 10 feet away. Pulling your rod of catching your bait and literally flipping it like 2 feet over and so on and so fourth

Agreed, this is not flipping, just fishing a jig on brush piles.

I am making an analogy between shallow water fishing and offshore fishing use the flipping technique as an example. Here's the definition of an analogy: "a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification" Also, I am talking about the flipping fishing style, not the actual casting mechanics involved. Not sure how else to explain myself.

People who put out a one sentence statement with zero detail about anything are just a have not. FFS is absolutely a great tool, it isn't a guarantee to catching anything. It's a thousand plus hours a year of time spent on the water. A normal work year is 2040, and you guys can't put that kind of time into fishing. Many factors besides slapping FFS on your boat help result in a successful day of fishing. Look at the bottom of the tournament results and ask them why they didn't catch them with FFS.
@rodw73684 ай бұрын
It’s not forward facing sonar that’s the issue and people need to call it what it is. LIVE SONAR. Actively watching your bait and fish is what is different
