This is great info. In Europe/UK the Guess-o-meter uses the WLTP range of 440 miles as the starting point despite it obviously being the same car! As a result it is almost 50% over-egging it! Hopefully the guess-o-meter will be calibrated based on real world conditions going forward.

Yes, my Tesla also has a GOM that has a EPA based starting number (less battery losses over time). For accurate info, I need to use the Tesla trip screen. Hopefully stuff like this gets refined in the Ocean.

Nice video, Matt. The real world milage is close to what I experienced on my inaugural long distance drive round trip Miami to RI at Thanksgiving. You were braver than me though, as I set my DCFC finder at 20% SOC (70-90 miles) leaving me alternative locations if Chargers were not available or broken. Total milage driven 3801 since 11/17/23. Love this car!

Another great video. Just for comparison sake, when I go for my mail, I have to drive 2 miles from my house to the community mailboxes. First I go up about 50' in elevation and then down 600' in elevation. That's not a mistake. Today it was 24 degrees most of the time. My garage is heated to about 75 degrees. This kind of driving in the community, is never more than 30MPH, really eats up the electrons. I keep an Excel spreadsheet daily that provides some interesting data- like how much SoC I lose overnight and how many miles overnight. Since 1.11, 2/2, I'll lose 1-2% SoC overnight and the miles lost can vary considerably - but in the range of 3-7 miles. Thanks, again.

Matt, Thanks. This is very informative. Curious at~4:45 , 6:10 and 9:25 mark you seem to be needing the phone by hand for some reason? Are you a bit disappointed that the real life range is only 298 miles vs the 360 marketing number used by Fisker? I haven't seen any commentary on KZbin or elsewhere of an owner getting anywhere near 360 miles. I am in warm flat Florida and the most I have experienced is 265 miles. I'm a bit jealous of your 298.
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
The first time I was checking the weather app for current conditions at the current location and destination including wind direction and speed. The second time I was verifying the route to my daughters school as we were getting close to the exit. The last time I was checking alternate CCS charging locations as I was getting ready to decide which to use. 360 miles is for EPA on the 20" wheels. My are the 22" so, expected to be closer to 350. EPA is not the same as driving at 70 mph. This is similar to the percentage my Model 3 would get on the same trips (about 80-85% of EPA). Was your 265 a total from 100% to 0% on one drive? At what speed?
@redstaper241410 ай бұрын
All your videos are informative but this was your best to date. I simply don't have the confidence in the car yet to attempt a long trip. I have had issues with reliability that so far the updates have not alleviated my concerns. I am working with my tech rep when available. He is awaiting for the "telematics module" to be updated remotely. It is processed in CA.Then he can get some better data. Patience is needed. I have been able to drive some 70 mile round trips to the airport that consistently infer a range of ~265 with 22" . Flat warmish north Florida driving mostly highway in earth mode. I can't help but wonder if it's tied in some way with my ~3% battery drain per day. Out of Spec reviews has tried to support the Fisker brand but they have not yet made available an Ocean for Kyle to test the range.@@MTNRanger
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
@@redstaper2414 I hope your issue gets fixed soon. My Ocean has been working well and I had no issues on the trip. Of course there is occasional features that are offline, but I hope that gets ironed out over time. I have about 2% vampire losses per day and don't think that has anything to do with long distance driving. That would occur when the car is parked. There has been at least one owner that will loan their Ocean to Kyle for testing. I have messaged Kyle in multiple ways and he never replies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@redstaper241410 ай бұрын
That is my experience with Kyle also. He does not reply. Do your tech contacts at Fisker give you any hope regarding the very real battery drain? My tech swears all 5000 FOO's were the exact same hardware(not counting cosmetics....paint and interior etc). If that's the case ,how can people on fiskerati for example say they have 0 battery drain while many, many others like you and I have an issue? It's illogical.@@MTNRanger
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
@@redstaper2414 The same can be said for any car. My Tesla Model 3 had some issues that others did not have. There is a certain amount of variability and not all 5000 will act the same. Then there is the issue of software - there are many modules and not all are updated, there are several different versions out there. For example, I have had my Ocean 1500 miles and have not experienced any of the sudden braking issues or loss of regen that some people have experienced. With regard to the vampire drain, that is optimization of the different subsystems in the car. There are some that are not going to sleep correctly, others with different issues like the key fob communication that may be contributing. I had the same thing the first year of my Model 3, and it got sorted out over time. I'm not that concerned.

Hi Matt, thanks for the video, if I am not mistaken, you have switched off the HVAC on the last leg of the trip. it seems that it had an impact on the consumption. how did that work out? was the climate in the car still comfortable? (temp? humidity?) thanks in advance for your reply, Guy
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
Since the Ocean was parked in the garage and it was around 60F, I don't think much heating was used done on the trip. I did have the vent on 1 originally and honestly didn't feel a difference in the cabin temperature. I think I absentmindedly turned it off during the second half. In mid 50F-60F temps, I usually don't use the HVAC. Thanks for pointing that out, it probably does have a positive effect on the efficiency. I'll try to be more consistent on the next test!

@@guymatthew1756No problem with questions! I don't think it makes much of a difference since the temperature delta was not very much. If there was a 30-40 degree difference between inside and outside, sure, it would use more electricity.

Interesting video that shows just how well the Ocean performs in terms of range. I'm curious, how was the charging experience? I notice there is a +/- button for charge rate on the touch screen, which is interesting as I thought the max onboard charging rate was 32W. Wondering if it will have the ability to charge above 32W as I thought that was a hardware issue vice software. How long did it take you to get from 4% to what I'm assuming is 80% for your short drive home? Thanks!
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
The charge rate adjustment goes up to 32 A only for AC charging. The only thing that is shared by AC and DC charging is the max charge percentage. For this trip I only charged enough to get an extra 15-20 miles of range to get home. For a full charging test (same location too) see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ7YfX1pg9mAo5I

Hi Matt - Great video! ? - With 2.2 - If the HV battery is degraded/degrading, would it show 100% SoC on the display if charging to 100% or show some lower % indicating delta as amount degraded? What is the best way to determine if battery is degrading aside from mileage drop? Thanks Matt.
@MTNRangerАй бұрын
The 2.2 update has a different calculation for miles remaining. Previous versions were based on the EPA value (eg. 350 or 360 miles). Now it is based on the last 600 miles of driving statistics. For mine, I show 342 miles on 100%. This should not really reduce your miles. I plan to do some testing on my next long distance trip and see if the change has any effect on my car. As far as degradation, it's not certain how that is reflected in the calculations. You will always see 100% on a full charge. The actually net kWh may be less than the original 106.5. It will gradually decline over time. For example, on my 2018 Tesla Model 3 with 71,000 miles, I have roughly 93% of my original battery pack.

I really wonder how much range you would gain if you had smaller wheels. I put 19” wheels on my EV6 GT and it made range improve by about 25%. On my old Model 3 Performance, switching from 20s to 18s and PS4S to MXM4 tires also made around a 20% improvement to the range. Also, I’m in Raleigh, too. We just got a BMW i7 xDrive60. Would be very interested to do a side by side test of the EV6 GT on 19s vs. Ocean to see if longer range makes up for slower charging.
@MTNRanger10 ай бұрын
Smaller wheels could be in the 5-15% range depending on their aero and tires. I'm getting smaller aftermarket wheels in the Spring to test. I think 20" is the smallest that fit over the calipers. There's a slim chance that 19" may fit. I have always had 18" wheels on my Model 3 and have a lifetime of 246 Wh/mi.

EPA is 360 for the 20" wheels. I have the 22" wheels so I think it is around 350 miles. Remember that EPA doesn't do a continuous 70 mph like I do in this test. My Tesla Model 3 has an EPA range of 310 miles and I would get about 250-260 miles at 70 mph in this weather.
