I don’t understand why people hate on sonic forces. I mean it’s not quite the best in the series (that would probably be unleashed) but forces is not a bad game imo

I agree, though I wouldn’t say unleashed… But I played the PS2/Wii ver, and never finished it* but in terms of gameplay only. I didn’t think it was bad to begin with, only ‘Oh the levels short…’ and how they repeated levels almost constantly (Theme wise) and whilst the music isn’t my overall cup of tea* (Mostly the Avatar stages music and classic sonic’s tracks… so in a way, musically it was disappointing for me…) The two standout tracks were always fist bump and infinite. Whilst people say Infinite as a character was poorly written and explained / included… I genuinely believe I’ve mentally re-written Infinite. To be this (in short.) - Looks up to the ‘heroes’ (Sonic, Shadow, the main cast essentially) - Shadow kind of did whatever he was doing, but still beat Infinite in a fight and called him weak whatever. Infinite takes it to heart because* - Infinite, wants to be a part of the group. Infinite looked up to Shadow, Sonic and the others in some way. Even though he discards sonic multiple times. I still feel this is valid, Especially given Eggman ‘tortured’ Sonic for months instead of just killing sonic outright. - Eggman used Infinites ‘ego’ his insecurities to control him. Who controlled the phantom ruby* I’m on record saying the person who’s prepared to walk away and let something happen. IS in fact more dangerous than the person who wants to destroy the world as it were. The fact Shadow outright turned away from the alien invasion in shadow the hedgehog (FMV) and only turned back around because of Black Doom talking to him. Doesn’t mean Shadow was gonna save the humans or not save them. The idea that he could actively chose not to make the decision or take sides. Makes the character. Infinite to me. All the songs in sonic relate to one character talking to another character in some way. Like, Open your heart, is told from sonics perspective to Chaos. Live and learn, is a duality between sonic AND shadow, showing both characters lack the other’s part in a way and it completes them. Sonic heroes doesn’t need anything said… What I’m made of* is friggin brilliant writing, it’s both Sonic talking to metal sonic and metal sonic to Sonic. You can interpret it both ways. Infinite’s theme, isn’t like this. Infinite isn’t talking to someone else. Not directly. I think* as a point I remember someone or somewhere saying they wanted Infinite to be slightly ‘unstable’ mentally. And introduce the idea of mental health into sonic directly. I might be misremembering… But re-listen to the lyrics with this in mind. Infinite has PTSD. The person he’s talking to, is infinite before he adorned the name Infinite. He’s replaying those memories and ‘becoming stronger’ in his desire to be infinite. It’s not a case of, mental health and you become the bad guy doing bad things. It’s a, if you let that repeat and consume you. You can very easily be manipulated and controlled by the right person, but for the wrong reasons. Infinite is saying to his past self, You lost, you are nothing - give into this because I would crush you if you try to stop me. I see the ruins of the life we had what is in the ashes from the fire… But I don’t fall over it. I am certain there is a perfect way of wording it, but it’s gonna take a smarter person than me to find the words… the closest I feel I’ve gotten isn’t 100% right, but ‘Psychological Self Recruitment’ is what Infinite is about.

As the No. 8 Forces Enjoyer, the game promised too much only to deliver on very little. This isn't like Sonic 06 or Frontiers where the game was too ambitious for it's own good. The game pretended to be this big thing only to present itself as dumbed down version of what it promised. I still enjoy it, others? Not so much, they were bascially lied to.
