I wish rivalries would go back the way it is back in the 90's where engineers just go crazy with their work and the company owners just agreed that they'll limit the power of their cars, but these engineers were like smoking weed and then came up with a crazy idea of making the engine bullet proof that could handle as high as 1000hp then put the engine not just in the performance model but in their crossover and luxury cars too, but when it comes out of the gate those cars are detuned and the company just gives a smile and a nod to the aftermarket manufacturers

@@jakubkujawa695 GTI on 8th generation. A tune on a GTI makes it more powerful than the type R. Similar to the 911, the GTI is the benchmark. So while there are other faster cars than the 911 and GTI all others in their class are measured to these 2 benchmark cars. Like the Ford Focus ST and RS, The Subaru STI hatches have all been crushed by VW. i'm hopeful for the Veloster N, but I doubt Honda makes many more type Rs. Their other option the si is an underpowered bore.

I’d say Merc vs Audi vs BMW is a huge rivalry right now. Also Porsche but they kinda only half compete with the others since they’re mostly focused on a different demographic. Another big rivalry will be the 400z vs the current supra. Also the civic Type R vs the golf R vs Hyundai Veloster N, and throw the wrx/STI in there even though it’s not a hatch. And there’s also the Mini Cooper vs VW beetle vs Fiat 500.

The electric car trend saddens me… I don’t feel the electric cars offer much (if any) car culture. It’s based towards consumers rather than enthusiasts. Sure, you can throw on some aesthetic mods, but you’re severely limited on performance mods. The only possible benefit I can see is in gas engines stepping up their game just to compete with some of the more extreme examples of electric cars -but there are emission limitations there…

Yeah me too, and lots of manufactures have stopped development of gas engine and future technology. So chance of that happening are slim to none. It will be an all electric future I fear. But I will keep all 4 of the gas cars I own now and will drive them till day I die! I have 69 Cadillac sedan deville with 472 cubic inch big block with 4 barrel carb 375hp 500ft lbs tq. I have an 05 Cadillac STS4 1sg with 4.6L N* 320hp 315 ft lbs tq, I have an 05 Cadillac deville with 4.6L N* 275hp 300ft lbs tq and a 14 Cadillac ats 2.0T 272hp 260ft lbs tq. But I’m working on the ats and have bought lots of performance parts for her. This summer they get put on and she gets tune and e85 and should be 300hp at wheels and 280tq at the wheels. Eventually it will be 500hp at the rear wheels!

Take it from somebody who's owned and modded both. Plus the Z is heavier, faster, and has a bigger engine than both so you're kinda comparing in a different class.

Man i miss the good old days when Saab and Volvo where at each others throat.
