People have no patience to "build" a car. They don't know how to plan a build, research parts, or do the work themselves if a shop price seems too much. Building a car takes time, money, and is a process. They should just go out and drop $30k on a car already done that the owner has lost interest in.

I have moved to to the BMW platform (2000 Golden age) you want to talk about a brand that does not work well with cutting corners. Although I do see it all the time every single day. " oh you have a BMW 3 series with Pep Boy Wheels cut springs and bad camber. Say your variable cam timing system isn't working and your cooling system isn't really working either so your about to blow a head gasket and pull the head bolt threads out the block.... oh you want to cut the muffler off and straight pipe it first..... Cool.... "

I'd like to pushback on this. It's builds like Project Binky, which has been going on since 2013, that I REALLY want to see more of on KZbin. There's something about thinking about and showing all of the problems with a car, solving them, and then making it all yourself that make those projects all the more worthwhile. As someone that wants to build one day, I'm already looking at the type of tools I would need to fabricate materials. I think it's totally worth the time and effort, but I think people need to think long-term instead of expecting something that'll take more than a Sunday afternoon.

My favourite car builds on youtube are ones that have taken a long time. Juicebox's AE86 has taken 4 years just to become a rolling shell. Ronald Finger's Fiero restoration was incredibly in depth and showed the entire process, including screw ups. BoostedBoiz's MR2 used to be cobbled together to get another quarter mile run uploaded and they were breaking it every week, but it became truly amazing once they slowed down and started doing things right, which has paid off with it becoming the first 7-second MR2 in the world. I really want to see more long-term projects where something is built up and done right

He is currently building a 6 cylinder boxer engine for a VA chassis sti. He's even rewiring everything correctly to work with a Haltec ECU. The man is a legend. These kinds of builds are the ones I actually watch and not get bored of because they are so unique and teach so much.

tbh I think this is a big part of the reason I find myself so drawn towards the rally scene as apposed to the street car scene. To me it feels like not only can you try your best to make the car look appealing for an open event but then you also have to basically 'test' the build quality you were able to put together when your racing. Of course rally and street cars have very different aesthetics and to each their own for what you prefer, but I almost see it as like 2 sides of the same coin?

Agreed. So many today build for looks, then get mad when something like my Evo 8 with paint scratches, a little curb rash and dog hair on the back seat but a ton of money under the hood walks them. Someday when I am finally happy with my mechanical work I will start thinking about looks, but it will be a cold day in hell before I do something for looks that diminishes performance.

Back in the 90's when the small car scene was burgeoning, I took my car to hot rod shows, attention and detail with some original flair got my awards, they didn't except jank. Some of the these shows had only just started to have categories for small car imports/modern back then. I'd get a lot of grief from the V8 guys too. Plan your build and make good relationships with companies you do business with.

Most all work now has been engine internals and performance upgrades like new stainless valves, porting and polishing the exhaust ports, bigger intercooler and boost pipes, custom fabbed 3" catless downpipe, and all new forged internals. Now the block is getting sleeved and I got tired of it looking stock everyday, so i finally copped some enkei ts5 wheels from you guys last week to give me some visual cues that ive actually made some damn progress!

I need to touch on the Slammedenuff Gatlinburg comment, there was equally, if not more junk in that show now then there has been in the past it seems. Everyone is getting lazy from event holders to car enthusiasts, but the quality of cars start with the event holders, they need to give themselves more time to pick cars for the showcase then just hitting the accept button to fill it in. I enjoyed the parking lot cars more so than the actual indoor event.

There is no “the right way” unless youre talking about a ricer vs a racer. There are levels to bulding cars, obviously, but if you slap some wheels on your car and lower it for an agressive look, you can be that simple and clean slow fuck, or you can grab yourself a honda, build it for 10k, and destroy any v8/v6 on a straight or in the mountains

If I had a dollar for every time I used a zip tie for a “temporary” fix/mounting then I’d be able to afford the labor it would take to do it right 🤦🏻😂😂

Automotive KZbinrs should be smart about their builds… build the car well, record the entire process, produce the videos AND THEN. Publish then after the fact! That way you create a cue of videos that you can release at specific regular intervals. Sure you still run into the crunch of needing to maintain projects, but control your outcome, don’t let it control you! Admittedly, that becomes a lot harder when someone is trying to prep a Ferrari for a specific show where there is a real-life deadline… but what’re ya gonna do, true ballin like that takes good friends, a lot of cash,… or BOTH!

The story of APC boy! I so remember the days if you had anything APC on your car it was a piece of shit and we even had a kid who we nick named "APC boy." This kid got so tired of his name and me destroying his ek coupe with Stealth RT/TT that he finally sold the APC mobile and bought a VR4! He then couldn't afford parts and wrecked it because a stock 320hp to the crank was to much power! I still kinda feel bad about this but we kept all this stupid bullshit from happening! Also this was like 2004 and I was 20 years old! FUCK I'M OLD!!!!!😥😭

Flame suit on.Stance boys happened. The moment we stepped away from FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION it all went down hill. The only reason Lowriders get a pass from this is because they are rolling works of art not just pieced together of the shelf parts ruining perfectly good cars.

Also, the whole "Respect all builds" BS encourages this type of behavior. I am guilty, myself, of taking shortcuts, but it's not for youtube views, or instagram likes. It's simply because it's my only car, I'm a student, and I have a job, so I'm always in a time crunch. BUT I do not take it to shows, or show it off or brag about it, because I know it's NOT done right or even finished. Basically, I do not waste people's time to look at a car not done properly and not close do done period. What pisses me/ alot of people off is people who think their car is a show car and the bumpers are misaligned, the paint is orange peely or swirled, the wrap is crappy, the quarter panels look like soda cans, and they still put it in shows that people spend money to go into.
