Other than braking, does the mid drive work with the internal hub? In that case maybe a disk brake on the rear shaft would work.

I just purchased a nice used Torker Tristar (pre-Raleigh?) and found your video while looking at electric conversion options. It too is 3-sp with coaster brake. Glad to know mid-drive is possible for it. I'd like to ask about the hub mounting as shown - could a link in the drive chain have been removed to make the hub sit deeper in the slot - and a link or two added to the pedal to hub chain? It looks to be on the ragged edge of the slot - which for a plump senior like myself, looks less secure. Thanks in advance! (PS - the Tristar is for the wife - mine is a 2018 Schwinn Town and Country - which I imagine can't be converted to mid-drive).

thanks you, I've always wondered how the gear hubs work on that type of setup, I was thinking about doing that on a recumbent trike when I get one .

Would a sturmey archer front drum break hub work basically a single speed with drum brake in back?

Thanks for the info, may end up doing the dame on my project :)

It's a good begging! I like that internal gears hub - looks much cooler and more reliable than a regular derailleur!!! I would add a differential to the rear axle, a fork with shocks in the front, also a small geared hub motor to the front whee - to make it AWD!....guess it is going to cost more than a car.

Great info. I wish you would do a video like this for Schwinn Meridian trikes. Please? There are a lot of these Meridian trikes out there that need this and alot of older folks that would appreciate thehelp and guidance. Can you give more detailed explanation on the custom flange you had made and drilled for SA 5 spd.? Another video with more detaills on a Meridian would get many views, I am sure.

Hey David, send me your Meridian, and I'll electrify it and put up the video! Really though, I appreciate the feedback. If someone brings me one to kit up, I will certainly make a video. For the sprocket that mates to the hub flange, a local lazer cut metal shop got the demensions of the hub, then sliced the sprockett out of a sheet of stainless. They even shot little holes directly where they needed to be to match up with the spoke holes. All I had to do was drill them out to size, and tap the spoke holes in the hub flange.

Thanks for the reply. If you were closer, I'd consider bringing the trike to you. However, what would you charge for the exact same flange to be made for me to attach to a Stormey Archer 5 speed?

Sorry for the delay David, it would probably be around $100... but after looking at the Schwinn Meridian, the frame and gear and brake set up is much different then the Raligh, I dont think it would fit the same.

Could you not have done the same with the 3sp?

Yes we could! Mid drive motors can be installed in a variety of geared bicycles!

Nice bike. hub motor way cheaper. I built one that you could pedal at 35 miles an hour 11 tooth sprocket in the back 42 in the front.

Do both the wheels spin with the throttle?
@nomadcyclespdx4 жыл бұрын
Tony Auge, just one, the whole axle turns, but only one wheel is keyed into the axle, which makes it better for turning. It also means that only one of the wheels brakes as well. One wheel I’d the drive wheel and brake wheel at the same time
