Don’t feel guilty about taking a day out crafting that is exactly what I have done after working 45 hours in the week then at the hospital three days this week for my sons ongoing treatment and just getting over a migraine, this morning after putting 2 loads of washing on the line my body said no more! So crafting was all I could do 🥰

When I made my big African flower blanket, I didn’t block the hexagons. I found the weight of the blanket blocked them. Love your podcasts, I feel like I’m with an old friend 😊.

My knitting has helped me through many difficult times throughout my life. In their latest episode Fruity Knitting did an interview with a psychologist (and crafter) who has studied and written a book on how and why crafting helps our physical and mental health. It was absolutely fascinating. I think you would enjoy it. Never feel bad about not feeling well on your vlogs - that is real life and it makes me feel that we are all not perfect and healthy all the time. Hope you feel better soon. Looking forward to April vlogs! 💞

I always look forward to your videos - I love your sense of humor and the way you express yourself. 😊 And now I find that you're "reading by ear" one of my favorite authors! I loooove Alison Weir - I've mainly read her non-fiction, but am foraying into the fiction as well. Your doodling is lovely - you have such a wide variety of talents! Hope you all get to feeling better very soon!

I put them all together before blocking the whole blanket. Thanks for sharing the week with us. I made haddock chowder. I was sick of cooking the typical stuff and that sounded homey and warming. Splitting time between gift knitting socks and a sweater that is grey with hot pink and black graphical diamonds on the yoke for me. On the first sleeve. Enjoy making the hexies!

I have been sick since January and I am finally feeling almost human. You helped me take a 30 minute walk. I have been too out of breath to walk or even talk sometimes. I spend quiet a bit of time sitting cross-legged on my bed and crocheting, knitting, listening to books, watching crafters on KZbin… I call it Nesting. At a thrift shop, I even discovered a small wooden sign that says NEST. 😊 Early morning is my favorite time of day for nesting. There is honeysuckle and a bird feeder outside my bedroom window. This time is a “buffer” before the day begins and watching your vlogs brings comfort and peace. Thank you for this. 🌻🧶🥰

Sorry to hear you’ve got the cold going around. Sometimes we just feel blah and peri-menopause just doesn’t help at times. My knitting/crochet has been fantastic for my mental health and depending on how I am May mean working on a challenging project vs other times of just knitting in the round. I look forward to your April vlogs as I was at such a loss after your month of vlogs was over at Xmas. Take care x

I know how you feel, last week I finally started getting my routine back in order and waking up at 6am rather than in the middle of the night. But today I've woken up really 🤒 so had to take yet another day off work 😢. BTW I love that garden centre, the ladies in my family visited for a Christmas afternoon tea last year I think it was and we were in one of those domes. It rained quite a bit but it was fun and rhe food was tasty too. Also loving your journal, I have a few handmade books which I've filled with doodles but got out of the habit when I started my teaching degree, must dig them out and get back to it as it's very therapeutic. Sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather, but I like the idea of putting feelings onto the page to kind of explain how it feels when words simply won't work. Zentangle is a wonderfully mindful art technique. Hope you feel better soon x

Wishing you better Ali. I don’t have a lot of crochet experience, but I do have dozens of individual hexies for a blanket. I started to join them together but it felt difficult and didn’t look great unblocked, so I stopped and have decided to block them individually so they’re ‘crisper’ (not the right word) for joining. Unrelated…perhaps play around with PRIORITISING the things that you love and that energise you. Challenge the belief that you have to earn crafting time, or be too unwell to do anything else. This is your wonderful life! Fill it with wonderful things because you are wonderful and you deserve it! And you might find that a reverse process happens where you are more resourced for the stressful stuff because you are already full of crochet and knitting happiness ❤❤xx

Never blocked crochet squares or finished blankets - I crochet them together loosely and they sit flat and nicely. Just give a wool label to each recipient so they know how to wash it. Having had shingles for the last two weeks I have adapted my crafting to anything light weight I could knit lying in the side that didnt hurt. Hope you are over the bugs soon

Hi Ali, What is so lovely about your vlogs is that they are real life. They are not “ jolly jolly” but real and really wonderful. You enable other people to know that it is all right to have days when you just feel totally down and know that we ( whoever we are) are not alone. I tend to go for a walk by myself and I stop by a gate to a field ( with a fabulous view) and just chat to the fresh air. If anyone came along they would see this woman talking to herself - but it makes me feel better. I also make sure I get my knitting out or go and just sit in my messy room. Hope you start to feel lighter soon.❤x

Hi Ali. I like that you share some real life good and bad days in your vlogs. I’m currently going through a mental health crisis, where anxiety and mild depression is really taking a hold, I tried some tablets from the doctor, but they made me worse! So I stopped taking them. I’m Crying all the time. I can only describe the feeling as a huge knot of sadness/impending doom in my chest/upper stomach. Just how you described with your doodle. I think mental health isn’t spoken about nearly enough, so many of us are struggling with it, and I think the more we open up, if it can help even one person feel that they’re not alone, it’s worth it. Crochet, knitting, colouring, reading and mindfulness meditation are a god send for me. I’d like to see more KZbinrs who suffer anxiety or mental health problems (if they’re comfortable doing so) open up and do videos about it, like I say, knowing you’re not alone helps so so much! I think I may be going through early peri menopause. Anyway I hope your cold has gone now and you’re feeling better. 💜💜 xxxxx

I bought a blocker for granny squares, and have yet to use it. I’m guessing you’re supposed to because the blocker is an actual THING. I made a single crochet border around my squares and am single crocheting them all together. You are likely my daughter’s age. I can’t imagine running as you do. It’s no wonder you all get sick. I’m a religious woman so one day a week is a rest day. I’d be dead if I went on as you young people do. I’ve had to last almost 70 years and I’d have burned out long ago if I did as much and as many things as you do. The fact you can squeeze in any needlework is a pure miracle to me. Your hexis are very pretty. Enjoying your channel. Do take care of yourselves. God bless.

That you for sharing such a real look at your life. Those blips happen to everyone and it is lovely just knowing that we are not alone in that. You did quite well in your making, colds and other distractions notwithstanding. When I am having a lull, I tend to turn to very vanilla knitting or crochet, or just bury my nose in a book or magazine. I hope you had a lovely time in London and that everyone at your house is on the mend.

Hi Ali, sorry you’ve been feeling grotty, hope you’re better now. Have you seen Daniel Radcliff’s version of David Copperfield? I think he was about 9 or 10 when he played the part. I love this version, worth a watch if you can.

I saw Six last year and loved it almost more than any musical I've ever seen - when it finished I just wanted to stay in my seat and watch the next performance 😁. I devour books about the Tudors and have listened to all of Alison Weir's books about the Six Queens.

I hope you are both over your colds now. That insect thing you put on the screen took me by surprise. You nearly got thrown across the room. Frightened the living daylights out of me. 😮😊😂. Thanks for feeling able to put the grunge in with the good bits. As you say….that’s life. ❤🌻

Aw Ali, feel better soon 🧡 there is so much lergy around! Maybe you could add some of your doodles to your desk with PVA glue? Or make a tray cloth? Or maybe it will just grow on you because it’s so useful😊 Being ill makes you feel pretty down, especially when there is also other stuff going on, sending you a BIG virtual hug 🤗 your bracelet came out so well and I am in awe of your doodling , stunning, I am fascinated with them. Hope you all feel better soon, Love & Hugs Suze. 🥰🧶🤗🐈 🧦. Xxx

I just finished a pair of Drippity Drop socks thanks you your enabling :) I always enjoy Kay’s patterns. Hope you all enjoyed your night out and I hope you all feel better soon. I appreciate that you talk about how you’re feeling good and bad; I can certainly relate and had a similar situation last week including the tears.

I may have to get me a table/tray for my bed. I love my bedroom to. It's cozy and safe and quiet. I can just relax while there in my room.

Ahh Ali loved this vlog, i too have had the dreaded lurgi ! Also perimenopausale so I totally get everything you have said. I too turn to craft to get me through, I have so many projects on the go but like you, have to be in the right headspace for each one of them, I have a doddle sketchbook too and find this so relaxing and I'm currently crocheting wax crayons in many different colours ! Crafting is my go to when life is lifing ! Ie broken cars, broken boilers, poorly husband ! The list goes on, I always feel so relaxed when I watch your vlogs, whilst the cat that's not our cat purrs happy beside me !, we too have one called jess who has been visiting daily for 8 years !! Thank you for keeping me company whilst navigating a stressful time, can't wait for April vlogs x

Go and see Wicked as soon as you can! I went with my granddaughter a few years ago and now the Broadway production is coming back and I so want to see it again! Take the girls too. Hope everyone feels better very soon. The Hubs and I had a 6 week virus at the beginning of the year and we were wiped out for weeks. I could feel your pain. So glad you did not have that one.

I hope you feel better soon. I'm making the Weekender blanket too, and I'm not blocking my hexagons. I didn't think it's needed. Good luck with all of your projects, and thanks for sharing.
