I know right, considering how many escorts have arches fitted it’s crazy there isn’t more videos around. I spent years searching for any scrap of information I could get to help before I got around to fitting my arches. I’ve condensed what I discovered into this short video. Hope it helps.

Thank you for taking the time to go into fine detail into how to fit these arches. Even though you say you don’t have an idea of what you’re doing it is still much better than anything currently available. Keep it up !! Please go into as much detail as possible !! Also which company did you buy these Monte Carlo arches from ?? Did you have a look at what was available from Group 4 Fabrications ?? If so what did you think of their arches ?? Thanks once again!!

Hi Glenn, thanks for watching, glad the videos help someone. I wasn’t sure exactly how the videos would be taken, everyone has an opinion and you never know what people will say, but as you say, in the absence of any fitting videos on escorts I felt my experience could help even one person my mission was complete. When I started out I literally had no idea what I was doing. I looked at all the arches on the market at time, there’s slight differences between manufacturers, also depends what you like the look of, and of course budget. I’m well aware some of us don’t have a 100k for a den motorsport unit. With arches, you can go full fat, with the Monte, it’s a little wider, but more noticeably, it’s comes further up the quarter panel past the swage line. I just found something that was wide. I wanted to run 10” on the back. The arches are from Peter Lloyd rallying ( I stand to be corrected, but I think they closed down), my decision was purely financial, they were pretty reasonable at the time. The group 4 stuff looks top notch, I can’t remember buying anything from them as yet, but I don’t think you can go far wrong in the sense that they’ll probably need a little fettle to get just right. Let me know how it goes.

@@noideabuilds9248 I wouldn't worry about negative comments, everyone these days are keyboard warriors !! You're doing a great job. I was intending to run 15 x 8 rims at the rear as my engine doesn't produce sufficient power to warrant 10 or even 9 inch wide rims on the rear. To get the same look and fill the arches out like yours I was going to run a wider Toyota Hi Lux diff (I live in Australia and Atlas diffs are in short supply, Hi Lux diffs are strong and have plenty of ratios to choose from). Do you think this will result in a similar look as yours ??

The hi lux diff should be bomb proof. I’m working on part 2 of the atlas series video, I’ll be talking about axle width and fitting the axle with arches to get the right look. I imagine the hi lux axle is quite wide so I don’t think you’ll have a problem, all depends on wheel offset and the arches you use.

Nice video! Could you give me your configuration of axle, wheels and arches. I'm using tarmac arches with a standard 52" atlas axle and yesterday a friend borrowed me some 13x8 and 13x9 with ET-12 and none of them fit the arches... HELP PLEASE!!!!

Hi Fernando, thanks for following. I’m assuming your issue is the wheels don’t fit the arches. I’m hoping to make a video talking about this very thing, but as you’ve asked: I have a very custom setup, I think most people who run wide arches have some sort of set up. My arches are huge, I don’t remember exactly how far from the body they stick out, but my overall width from the inside lip of one arch to the lip of the other side is 173.5 cm. my axle is bespoke and is 144cm long which is just over 56”. My wheels are 8” wide and are ET-20. Which gives me an axle and wheel width of 168.3cm, 5.2cm less than the arches, which Is 2.6cm short each side. Bearing in mind the wheel width is measured inside the outer lips, and my wheel bead lip is nearly 1cm I only have 1.6cm space between my arch and wheel. I also have the option of increasing wheel width and reducing ET if needed. Hope this all helps.

Tack, thanks for watching. Hows life with a Mk2 in Sweden? The arches were actually from Peter Lloyd rallying, I don’t believe they’re still in business anymore. The arches are Monte Carlo ones. I don’t know if motorsport tools have similar items. I never checked.

Hi Brian thanks for message, update and loads to come for the escort. It’s far from complete.... should be too long before a update comes and then I can get back into the build. The last few years has kicked the crap out of me so I’m trying to get my life in order but if things go to plan I’ll be back with serious gusto soon enough.

Hi what primer do you use for bodywork and arches?

It’s a primer from rust.co.U.K. It won lots of endurance tests a while ago and sprays over not so clean metal and is non porous so it’s doesn’t absorb moisture and rust. Seems the bomb, the cars been in primer for 2 years with no issue. The link below. Yeah epoxy. Good for steel, aluminium and grp apparently. Only used it on Alu and steel. It’s been pretty good stuff.

Wow. Impressed with your Icelandic game. Long story short, 66 make the best fleeces, especially that one, it’s 10mm thick and good for -10, perfect for the garage. I lived in Iceland for 3 years, and some of home footage was filmed there and the garage stuff In the U.K. 👍🏻
