Fitting New "Beachmaster Type" Transom Wheels To A Sib

I've used two different types of transom wheels on Redneck (my Sib) and I've not being happy with either of them. The first shattered and broke, the second twisted and bent. I decided to buy and fit some Rugged Heavy Duty Launching Wheels (not Beachmaster but similar)

Just out of interest, what size sib and outboard do you have. Thinking about getting some for my 4m sib & 30hp outboard but wondering if my setup is to big / heavy for transom wheels. Thanks

Hi Jon, stated recommended max combined sib/outboard weight is "120kg but do not exceed 200kg" which is a big differential! My sib is 3.65m - 57kg, outboard is 20hp 4s - 47kg. Hope that helps.

The next video I did shows the wheels fitted onto the SIB with the OB. It moves about very easily.

I'm not sure but there seems to be some problems with this setup: 1) Wheels with ball bearing? Stainless steel? 2) Can you take the wheels out? can you fold the boat with these wheels and it still fits in its bag? 3) Did you just drill 4 holes through the rubber on the transom? Doesn't look right. 4) With those wheels, boat has very low ground clearence.

Hi, 1. The wheels do have roller bearings, but they are nylon 2. The wheels have a quick release mechanism, as can be seen in the video. They are taken off before packing the SIB away, just like any other transom mounted wheel. 3. To fit most types of transom wheels you have to drill through the rubber at the bottom of the transom, providing it is sealed properly it isn't a problem. 4. Agree they are a low wheel, however the first transom wheels I had fitted (C-Tug) to my sib were much lower and that never caused a problem. Hope that helps.

@@axscdvfb C-Tug are a good transom wheel if you have a lighter sib and OB than I use, and a smooth slipway /beach. Unfortunately my sib and OB was to heavy and the slipway I was on left a lot to be desired. The plastic leg sheared/snapped, not the C-Tugs fault as it was being used outside of its capabilities. Moved onto a stainless steel transom wheel sold in the UK by Excel (made in China to a price), which bent and twisted within months of using them. Hence my fitting of these transom wheels, if these don’t work out I'll just trailer launch and retrieve my sib everytime.
