Looks great!, that rack on that angle i'm not sure, haha! Non the less, thanks for your content, always really soothing and informative. Greatings from The Netherlands.

Thanks! Unfortunately that’s just the angle of the rack on this 26er 😅 Basil makes some nice racks but the lack of adjustability in the stays lets them down a bit.

I have the hammered finish narrow version in black on a 531 Revell Road bike. They look great...but can rattle. They run close to the 28mm tyres,but look so good 😎

I was out thrifting. With the wife I found some new plastic planet bike fenders. New in package for 3.99. And a salsa rim laced to salsa rim and hub. With a single speed gear. I got that for 4.99. Not bad

They are pretty stylish. They suit the bike a lot better than the black SKS Bluemels I ran before.

Another thing the brake pads are they fibre x types if so I v used the M grest pads great for stopping in the wet and last. All the best😊

Nope. The pads I use are Kool Stop. Salmon compound. Been working great ever since I built the bike.

Put a set of their hammered ones on my Giant Revolt that serves as my winter/rain bike. I find they don't rattle and clatter as much as my old SKS ones did.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
Yeah the SKS flex a little being plastic. The Bluemels are a nice affordable option though.

Maybe (and I said maybe) for the front mudguard: instead of screwing in the back part of the fork, should it be done on the front part, it seems the mudguard too low, could easily be damaged by a high step.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
Good spot and very valid point. You could definitely do that to raise the back of the mudguard up. It would reduce the clearance to the tyre though and possibly angle the nose down too much in to the tyre.

Are there any actually long fenders out there which are neither as expensive as these and the Honjo fenders, nor as ugly as the SKS Bluemels? Preferably available to buy in the EU.

I've only had SKS before this so unfortunately - I don't know.

It's easier to put the rear guard fixing on loosely, nip up on the bridge, then crimp the clips tightly under the guard.......imo.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
Like I did then? Fit the lower bolt, fit the bridge and crimp.

Very nice and even fit. They perfectly follow the curve of the wheel. It's also surprising that they are stiff considering they are supported by only a single stay. For comparison, I've got cheap orion full mudguard which are supported by two stay and they are not that stiff. for commuting, road or easy gravel they are find but can rattle, but they fail if you want to ride hard in rough terrain. They can fail to the point of the side knob of the tire being capable to hit the seat bracket and shear it off or fold the mudguard. Their fit is also terrible, there's no way to achieve an even curve as with these velos. Also, they also come slightly twisted from the factory, so it difficult to fit them so that they are alligned with the wheel and cover it all the way. In this regard sks mudguards are way better but twice the price or even more.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
I’m guessing by that’s the bonus of a metal mudguard. They shouldn’t flex as much and/or rattle around as much.
@SurpriseMeJT
@SurpriseMeJT Ай бұрын
I had bought SKS aluminum fenders that were supported by one stay. The rear would bounce and hit the tire as I rode over rough stuff. It got so annoying that I just threw them away and put some plastic fender supported by 2 stays. Problem resolved.

75 quid buy a bike for that.😅I recently bought for my comutor road bike which I use daily and got mud guards bought from bankcrupt bike parts use them all the time paid with postage 15 quid easy to fit lightweight and are great.when you said 75 quid my ticker stopped😅 all the best
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
Yup. They’re definitely expensive and I’ve avoided them in the past because of the price but for this bike I thought they were worth it.
@SurpriseMeJT

Front derailleur band looks overtighten, you nicked the dropout when you sawed off the stay (I'd have removed the stay to perform the cut) and you didn't remove the fender to bend top bracket (the part impeded by the seatstay) to conform to the fender as best as possible. That being said, for my 26" commuter, I use SKS because it's cheap, good and other people parking their bike next to yours might hit the fender where a metal one would bend. Not to mention there's the chance of theft, which would be a shame if you spend more on such fenders.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred Ай бұрын
@@SurpriseMeJT ah. You have those torque wrench eyes. Where do you get them calibrated? Mmm a VERY small thin line appeared behind the stays after I cut one off but I wouldn’t say it’s been nicked. No paint has been removed. The bend comment too. Yup. I even mention that and say it’s best to remove the mudguards to do that bit. Guess you missed that bit though 🥲
@SurpriseMeJT
@SurpriseMeJT Ай бұрын
@@MonkeyShred Oh, I heard about you talking about removing the fender and saw that you sawed off the front stay in a proper way - good job! Well, I'm also a bike geek who's owned maybe 30 or so bikes over about 30 years of riding, racing and being my own mechanic, so that's probably where my anal attention to detail shows.
