Looks like you know what you're doing with a bike. I learned some tips here. I'll watch some more so that I can learn more. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video.

I love that life where you can slowly do what it takes to build the bike. I really liked the idea to punch the fork when the crown race is coming too loose. Ah and this pesky front dérailleur... It doesn't seems to be easy to know which one will be able to cover the teeth range. Argh. If you don't have a bin full of dérailleur and différent big rings with the matching bcd, what do you do? I found this entertaining, relaxing and even learned new stuff. Thanks

More than satisfactory, i think for most of us without deep pockets its the best way to go. Plus the pain of "separation"😂 is less too.

I don't agree. While cheap bikes are worthwhile, they are horrible to work on with their cheap nasty parts, some of which seem to be made from cheese.

Thanks for posting again Mark, looks a great pub bike ! I appreciate the fact that even when you are not narrating, the combination of the pace and detail/camera work (and the odd sigh or mutter ! 😉 ) enable someone with a little knowledge, like myself, to pick up some useful tips, such as your tweaking the spokes on the front wheel ! Good luck with the sale !

I went a step further and ditched the front derailleur for a 1x7 config. Even simpler when you’re carrying beer and pizzas.

Yeah, 1x7-8 or 9 is my go to as well for moderate terrain, urban commuters I've converted. Lock the front der and use an Origin8 46-48t chainring. Usually it's a 14-28 7sp freewheel or 12-26 7 sp cassette. But, 1x is the way to go.

@@MonkeyShred You are a cool kid so perhaps.. A double I don't mind but a triple is an ugly set up and un-neccessary. However I really like your videos and your excellent collection of bikes so this isn't a big deal.

Nice one! ❤ You should have swapped the concave washers vice versa on the rear V-brakes; the thinner ones should go inside in this case. This way, the levers won't be so spread outwards but will be nice and parallel instead
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred 8 ай бұрын
I’ll check that out. I didn’t even notice the arms were spread!
@KarlosEPM
@KarlosEPM 8 ай бұрын
Unsolicited advice: in order to maximize mechanical advantage (leverage) the vertical portion of the arm (usually the lowest part which is closer to the screw) should be as close as possible to vertical when the pads contact the rim. Beyond that angle, the brake system starts losing power drastically. Most shimano, but not tektro, v-brake arms flare outwards to provide room for chunky tyres. This is normal.

Hi Mark, and thanks for yet another great video. To comment on your issue with the triple - i currently have a Japanese-made commuter (circa 2013) with a triple, and the stock gearing on Shimano cranks is 48-36-26, which seemed weird to me as well. Works well with an Altus front mech (some Mega Drive one, can look up the part number if it's of any use) Cheers!

That yellow grip might have been saveable with some Dasty and a toothbrush. I'm not sure how easy it is to get in the UK but ive saved many grips and even bar tape with it. Just the basic yellow stuff in a sprayer bottle. Cheap too, as its not a bike specific thing. Definitely worth seeing if you can get your hands on it Mark!

As far as a cheap bike goes this one is of good quality I made note of the altus on the back I got a pretty good buy on some tourneys add this usual I learned several things on this video got quite a bit of work to do I got an ill so I lost about 3 weeks one bike should not be hard to finish so get it done this weekend new cables etc over in the UK our family has a lease on on a townhouse or brewhouse whatever you want to call it someone stole my old triumph three-speed from the shed I wonder if it was a renter or someone else I suppose I would have to consider finding something if I went back over there shouldn't be that hard anyway I've got quite a bit of getting caught up on my work it just seems something always needs adjustments over here well thanks again I found that very entertaining

Nice job Mark👍 Simple is definitely best - I 'm just not a fan of gripshifters because every one I have had on a bike I've bought to restore has had a broken leaf spring. Thankfully NOS 7 and 8 speed trigger shifters are cheap on eBay these days .

You managed to build a nice used everyday bike on a low budget. The market's sales crisis of new bikes led me buying a new niche bike GT 29" BMX with gears and disc brakes with a 50% discount, but unfortunately in the end there will be no discount for me when upgrade parts are bought, that's how it is with most hobbies.. Greetings from Croatia

rage quit IG again... can't sell my pub bike.. 1990 alta with Sakae Ringyo MTS-101 you have the best process of all of the group we know. I tossed my CBBO Nishiki.. BB stuck and slightly messed rear triangle I've never had the more than 10 problem with FD but I think it's always been the smallest one.. because I have plenty of 22(32-34)44 triples and as well a 26 38 48 biopace 200gs original equipment
@MonkeyShred

Yeah the inner to middle I haven’t had problems with but I’ve definitely run in to problems with middle to outer a few times and it’s always been a 36 to 48 combo. Could always be the choice of front derailleur though I guess.
