This is a bit of a departure for my channel. I actually build my own engines and coaches, as you'll know from reading many of my previous ramblings. Currently, I'm building A GWR 51xx. I've had awful problems with wheeling the chassis, I've gone through 2 sets of wheels. I use the GW wheel press to mount wheels, and I've had a good run of success...until now. So I approached my friend Morgan Gilbert who uses a watch makers lathe to mount his wheels. This is a fairly lengthy clip of how the process works. It's not very formal, it's a bit two mates chatting and having a laugh.
There will be another clip called 'The Result' showing the outcome of the wheel mounting.
I'm not suggesting that this method should be a norm, it is just another method of mounting wheels. For those of you who model in 7mm, you have no idea how lucky you are to have axles that accept wheels that are already quartered and fit without much bother.
Thanks Morgan for doing such a top job!
