Unfortunately "retard" or "retarded" was a slur used against people who had down syndrome or other similar disorders decades ago. It held the same severity as other slurs today do. The difference now is that hardly anyone uses it in an offensive way. Sure you can argue that if you don't want to hurt people you won't use hurtful words but as Fitz said, it's been in his vocabulary for years and it's hard to change, and he's also been lingering on much worse words before this throughout his career. He has never tried targetting himself towards kids and there are kid-friendly options available to censor things for them. I see no problem with him continuing to use the word or other slurs in a comedic way. Comedians do it all the time, *to be funny*, when you can take something so heavy that has been producing negativity for so long and turn it into humour, it takes the power away. Yes, there are other words he can use as a substitute for the same result in this situation, but he did not call someone else the slur (although I'm sure he has, I know I have but it's never to insult those the slur was originally made for) and he did not mean it in a negative way to anyone. Simply just him saying "Man I'm dumb for not remembering this".

At the end of the day, I think there is a better word for it and that if you have the mental capacity (that fitz and the rest of them do,) you should probably just exclude the word in general.
