I am fascinated by this hard reset happening on KZbin with copyrighted material. IMHO, it is IA based, someone is running Bots over the video content, and will be merciless. Was it needed? Duh! Is it too harsh? Perhaps. Will it need fine-tuning? Of course! Is it fair that 100% of earnings go to the claim? Probably not. Rick Beato spoke-out about the need for educational licenses for KZbin educators, and he is probably right, but the correction is more aimed at dudes posting entire albums without authorization, making goofy lyric videos or using pop tunes in their summer vacation videos. Those guys are the bulk of the problem, with educators being a marginal amount of the big picture (negligible quantity?). IMHO, royalty free tunes can only go so far, so, now that stealing music earnings will be harder (impossible?), this may open new avenues for composers, media libraries, and maybe collaborations between content creators. One can only hope.

I think it is a massive issue and fear in my heart of hearts that the music industry is going to do another “mp3” which could prove apocalyptic. I think us media composers are more sensitive and understanding about the use of underscore and I fear our own industry is going to write us out of what could potentially be the only significant broadcaster on the planet in 10 years time. My kids don’t watch telly, they don’t watch Netflix (I give it ten years max) Amazon ha ha ha! It’s all about KZbin. They don’t care about my job as a media composer they don’t give a monkeys about Spitfire but the fact I’m on KZbin makes me legit. If you write us off KZbin you write off our profession IMHO.
@ThemFuzzyMonsters5 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrowHillCo Hi Christian, love the channel! IMHO, the mp3 did not kill content creation, it killed the remuneration of content creators. Music and video are more consumed now than ever before, yet earnings are at an all time low. The arrival of the mp3 made content more accessible, yet drove the music industry into a panic which led them to surrender all good sense, and later led them to embrace streaming (which drove earning even lower). The music industry forgot the first lesson of economics: SCARCITY DRIVES VALUE More music, more often, via more distributors is not equal to more revenue. It makes everything worth less (literally worthless, IE $0.0008 a play). This being said, I think the fear of alienating consumers like in the early 2000s (aka the Metallica & Co. debacle) is less possible now because it does not impact content availability. Back in 2003, people turned to peer-to-peer mp3 files sharing to avoid paying for content. They can still do so today. What is new, is that with AI-driven Bots filtering everything for copyright infringements, folks no longer can post content on KZbin without the copyrighted material owner being compensated. This far better than copyright owners constantly having content pulled. Now anyone and everyone can used copyrighted material ... they just can't financially exploit it. As a content creator, you know want your content to be shared and used more than ever before. The more it is out there, the more $$ you get. This only creates a problem for KZbinrs who do not have full ownership of their content: 100% ownership of the video and 100% ownership of the audio - or some License-Free content. For those who are only video content creators, it is a wake-up call. IMHO, the danger is over-abundance of audio content, semi-aeternam. KZbin has already makes License-Free music available and IMHO, that is where danger lies: oversupply ... it will make creation more and more difficult, and prices drop so low that everything will be even more worthless.

@@ThemFuzzyMonstersI don't think there's much that can be done about oversupply. None of the great, old stuff is ever going away, and people are furiously creating more and more new stuff every year. And, for artists trying to establish themselves (which is most artists), everyone is desperate to get their stuff out there and have it heard, hoping to establish at least some kind of presence. Sure, you can try to set something up to try to extract a premium from your audience base, but chances are, your audience will just skip over you and move on to one of the zillion other things out there. Only the people at the very top are going to have luck artificially creating scarcity, and they've already got plenty of money from other revenue sources.
@ThemFuzzyMonsters5 жыл бұрын
Lee Blaske 100% - being original, different, weird, etc. is the meal ticket. You have to be the sole supplier of “you”: ie Beyonce, Freddie Mercury, Lady GaGa, etc. The more unoriginal you are, the harder it will be. Now, I think Streaming services have well demonstrated that they are terrible business model. There are too many of them, all substitutes of one another as far as consumers are concerned. Once the playing field levels itself, they will have to go behind a Pay Wall as giving the store away for free can only last so long. It can’t come soon enough. The film industry is in the same boat, but they managed their IP a lot better. They have same over supply problems, but at least they still get paid thanks to Pay Walls (Netflix, Amazon, Disney, etc.).

KZbin should recognize and auto-insert a label on what they call 'Copyrighted Music'. Recognition makes the original person proud, striking the person just de-values the original creator and the creation.

Hi Christian, I'm loving the channel and as an aspiring 'unicorn' I wonder how much you have surrounded yourself with like minded 'musos' through your career? Was it all on your own/family to begin (as you've mentioned your brother previously)?... Do you seek affirmation from close friends that you are doing 'good' work or did you in the past? I have started on this journey of media composition a year and a half ago with a great friend who has made a career from it, but I have many other friends and family who give me feedback on my music without any understanding what I'm doing and I find it invaluable in improving the work I produce. However I always refer to my 'mentor' friend for constructive criticism. So the question is basically... 'Media Composition - Friend or Fellow?'... (In case you need a title!). Keep up the good work, it inspired me at a bit of a lull in my media composition adventure :)
