But to Ukraine unfortunately Trump is distracting attention from what is currently much more important, Joe Biden allowed us only to Donate 19 F-16 to Ukraine for the price of selling the rest to Argentina 3 billion dollars to block Chinese exports, it’s signed but Trump could allow the rest to be donated and sell US F-16 to Argentina, Ukraine gets more aid 130% governments debt US gets a little cash and Denmark will still have a Budget surplus, one of the problems has been to buy weapons and Trump should break with Bidens policies and allowing selling weapons to Ukraine, Russia is not in a position to attack NATO and Russia was worse than we thought China makes cheap copies of Russian weapons which nobody but poor countries want to buy, Taiwan is probably the top 5 worst place in the world to try to attack it would be suicidal, North Korea has large parts of their weapons and ammunition reserves, the Middle East enemies have been seriously weakened. 5% of GDP is stupidity Europe and the USA don’t need it and especially the USA can’t afford it, the global power balance unless Trump attacks the EU 😂 has shifted heavy in our favor and country’s who can’t afford it should not bankrupt themselves, Denmark could afford 5% but half of them would be better spent supporting Ukraine and especially there military industrial complex which the Nordic countries and Germany have agreed upon is a very good way to support Ukraine and also with technology transfers so they can have a mix of their own cheap weapons but also state of the art weapons which still is much cheaper to make in Ukraine than in northern Europe where wages are many times higher than Ukraine and Denmark don’t need the jobs it would just drive up inflation.

​@termintot4645 aircraft isn't as easy to recommission as a land vehicle, they are expensive and require alot of maintenance to keep them flying. I can remember details on cost but its alot. You also need specialists on each type of airframe.

Now, I find William videos informative and entertaining. That said, one critical variable is missing in "lines on maps": Putin is not looking to get more land but control. For him this is all or nothing. He put all his chips to get control over Ukraine, direct or indirect. That makes this war existential for Ukraine. US and many European countries seem not to understand this. The bargaining friction is too big for any kind of sustainable peace for foreseeable future.

Yeah I think thats what Republicans don't really understand with a "peace deal" or DMZ. They think that Ukraine government and ukrainians just want to fight until they all get unalived. Thats not necessarily true, I think Ukrainians & Ukraine government would be willing to sacrifice some land for peace.......the PROBLEM IS: Russia will not stop there, they will just use the ceasfire to rebuild their military and then invade Ukraine again, over and over until all of Ukraine is taken and russia has full control. This is why Zelensky has been adamant about joining NATO or getting some sort of security deal with NATO despite the fact you can not join NATO when you have challenged borders. Ukraine is not willing to make peace or sacrifice land unless there is a 100% GUARANTEE that Russia will not invade again. This means a "ceasefire deal" or "dmz deal" or "peace deal" is kinda meaningless or worthless to Ukraine, because all that foes is give Russia the upperhand and a better chance at taking Ukraine in the future, as Russia would use the pause in fighting to rebuild and rearm. Basically, Russia is the real problem here, and putin of course. The fact they are not willing to respect Ukrainian soverignity under any circumstances is what is preventing Ukraine from wanting to make a peace deal. Because there is no point in stopping fighting if that just allows your enemy to get stronger to invade you AGAIN.

The lines are a metaphor for how the peace settlement affects the different countries, not an actual physical border. Putin knows he cannot conquer Ukraine now, the kind of peace settlement he looks for is one where Ukraine´s security isn´t guaranteed, such that Russia can excert influence on future Ukrainian governments and keep it as a de facto puppet state.

It seems to me that the main reasln for the war was for Russia to get a land bridge to Crimea, while the way to obtain that at first was to get control over the entirety of ukraine, once that failed and the West aid got involved, the priorities shifted to a more ontainable goal. But now either Putin or Zelensky or both have political reasons to not accept a peace deal, either because Putin, for some reason, wants only the complete subjugation of Ukraine and will settle for no less, or Zelensky cannot (understandably) accept a deal giving away a third of the nation.

@@HazyFace_ that's incredibly simplistic, to the point of being basically untrue. ukraine has manpower shortages, but is very far from being out of draftable military-age men. rather, the ukrainian state has made the assumption that the war will end before drafting men under 25 will be an absolute necessity. At the same time, ukraine is still training and equipping new brigades, signaling that there are absolutely still recruits in the pipeline; and in the meantime, those new brigades need kit, and so more aid is absolutely useful. Furthermore, the more metal you have (e.g. bradleys, in this example), the fewer lives you have to lose, meaning more aid can also help stem the manpower issue. If you want to see that principle in action, but in the opposite direction, i refer you to all the videos of russian soldiers trying to race across no-man's land in golf carts and on motorcycles and getting absolutely disassembled.

How many aircraft carriers did the USA build between 1941 and 1945, during WWII? I was curious and Googled it, and I’m floored by the answer. This was long before computer assisted design and the kind of industrial automation we have today. We started the war with 7 carriers, 4 of which narrowly avoided the attack at Pearl Harbor. In the 4 years after the declaration of war, American shipyards built ONE HUNDRED & FIVE carriers in total, including 28 heavy fleet carriers and 71 light escort carriers. One hundred and five. That’s astounding. Yeah, I realize they weren’t nearly as complicated as today’s super carriers by a large magnitude, but we’re still talking about really complicated 30,000+ ton warships with 2,000+ man crews carrying up to 90 aircraft, with state-of-the-art radar and communications systems and A LOT of AAA guns. And that’s in addition to building 20 new battleships, 50 heavy cruisers, 400 destroyers, 400 destroyer escorts, etc etc & tens of thousands of warplanes. In four years. Blows my mind.

This is true, and the USA does have significant industrial capacity. There are differences, however. Perhaps the most important is that it is exponentially harder for the USA to find the resources to man a Ford Class carrier with 4500 people today than it was to man a carrier with 2600 during WW2. Right now the USA is having trouble manning its existing warships.

Yeah, that is something people don't realize, especially younger generations, which is that: The militaries of WW2 were significantly larger than today. Like A LOT LARGER. And that is despite the fact our population is bigger today (except Russia/USSR due to the break up and population decline and lack of immigration). The amount of tanks, planes, ships, and soldiers of course, that each military had back then was absolutely insane compared to nowadays in 2025. The USA has done a decent job are aircraft numbers in modern times though. It's almost shocking to see how few ships, tanks, planes etc. That each country has compared to ww2, not only the large countries (USA, Russia) but especially the smaller countries like UK, France, Germany, Japan - they only have a extremely small fraction of what they used to have. Heck, even the USA & Russia have decreased the amount of nukes they have since the cold war. Sure part of the reason the ww2 numbers were big was because everyone was at war, but even still, I think the lack of military vehicles/equipment in the modern age is a reflection of how the world thought that large wars between great powers wouldn't happen again after ww2, and especially after the cold war. But now that has changed, Germany has been rapidly rearming like they never have before, except for ww2. Now Japan has changed their constitution and is building a military again. And many other countries are following suit. We probably won't get back to ww2, since a large war like that probably wont happen, and also the technology nowadays would limit those large ww2 production numbers anyway, but still, countries are rearming again.

All of their gains combined are less than 1% of the territory of Ukraine. Indeed, since the initial Russian withdrawal, Ukrainian gains have EXCEEDED Russian gains. It is actually dangerous to focus on territorial gains, because currently, Ukraine seems OK with losing territory as long as it exacts a sufficient price from the Russians. If the outcome of a settlement depends significantly on who controls which territory over a short term horizon, Ukraine will contest each slice of territory much more aggressively, and both sides will pay an unnecessary price.

Putin does not value his own people's lives only to maintain power like Xi Jinping it's all about doing what you want and desire - but without pushing hard enough to cause the people to rise up. You push Russians or Chinese people hard enough and they will stand up - there is a red line. During COVID shut downs in China - they people said enough and used the white plain sheet of paper as a sign of resistance - and after much protest in China, Xi Jinping gave in, and ended the shut downs. That was really a major win for the Chinese people who showed XI, they hold the cards.

There can be no negations over territory without a vote, and a vote is not realistic at this point .. am I missing something? And hence all/most European states has already committed funds for Ukraine for the coming years. Most have signed 10 year "security" agreements stipulating some funds over 10 years. Other states - mostly in Northern Europe - has already allocated vast amounts typically until 2027 or 2028. So Ukraine can already count on 50 bln $ in 2025 (agreed in NATO) and considerable amounts in 26-28. I dont have the numbers, but I would think it is at least in the 15-20 bln € range yearly. And if anything most (Northern) European states are increasing their support for the time being. And importantly many nations are now beginning to allocate larger cash sums for Ukrainian defense industry (The Danish model). This is important because a) these funds go much longer on the € when spent in Ukraine, and b) it helps develop Ukraines own capabilities and makes them less reliant on foreign military aid in the long run.

Provide significant infantry training in Europe. Don´t bottle feed Ukraine with dribs and drabs.

The best deal, by far, would be to get the war to stop along the current territories occupied by each side and admit both Russia and Ukraine into NATO. Russia is not socialist anymore. Everything we have sent to Ukraine since we started has been actively replaced hence the high price tag for aid packages as the money was used to buy replacement stockpiles while we sent our old equipment. Except that more hardware means you need less manpower. You don’t need to man thousands of kilometres of trenches if you use long range missiles and artillery to cripple the enemies logistics and prevent them launching attacks while protecting your troops prior to their attacks. If your intel is better with drones, satellites and code breaking then you can use smaller armoured mobile forces to respond to any attack while leaving the border mostly undefended. Every battle since 1917 and the end of WW1 has always used more hardware and less manpower to lower casualties.

1. your analysis is correct. 2. let us review something similar.... the US in WW2. Inflation was 24% between 1939 and mid 1943. When Truman took office as President in 1945, he was told that if the US continued devoting resources at the then current rate to the war that the country would go bk within two year. As the war drew to a close, military orders were canceled and unemployment soared, then the unemployment jumped with the returning service men. The government partially dealt with the problem by having the GI bill - books/tuition paid and a stipend at the rate of pay as an enlisted serviceman. Trump seemingly has some very competent people working on this. Trump himself is kinda mercurial, so hopefully they can steady his course. He can probably be very effective if he commits to a viable plan and sticks to it, but Trump's personality may become its own credibility issue. :( BTW: Whenever we talk about Trump or Putin's personal plans and viewpoints, could we have the lines on map drawn badly in crayon? We missed this opportunity too often with Biden. :D
