So... you core idea that the Ideal World (as opposed to coercive goals) needs to be considered only in absence of military feasibility is not necessarily correct. Specifically, it is not correct if one's attitude is that "failure is not an option"... and that does in fact happen if you believe that you are fighting an existential war.... This too moves the red line for the faction that is so convinced to the wrong side of the white line. As many have pointed out, there is a strong case that both Ukraine and Russia perceive themselves as in an existential conflict... one where anything short of total victory is functionally indistinguishable from total extinction. Russia can reasonably perceive this war as existential for several reasons... (1) The Ivan the Terrible/Peter The Great model of Russian ethnic security that requires that Russia expand its territorial frontier over the entirety of Ukraine and indeed past it and which Putin has publicly endorsed. (2) Structural factors inside Russia, like their demographic inversion and non-existent technical education system, that make not taking more PEOPLE, never mind territory, economically suicide. And without a modern economy, one can not maintain a modern military, and without a modern military Russia can't hold on to power in many of the rest of its own non-Ukrainian territories. Ukraine can reasonably perceive this war as existential for several reasons... (1) Russia's own rhetoric and actions inside occupied territories that literally says that Ukraine is not and never was a nation but is just a fiction of corrupt officials and Nazi's propped up by the West. (2) Russia's very long historical tendency to suppress Ukrainian Nationalism and National Identity. (3) Ukraine knows about the structural in security-theory reasons for Russia to consider the war existential, and thus they can reasonably expect that no peace can ever be lasting or even meaningfully respected on the ground (regardless of what treaties are signed) so long as those structural and philosophical reasons remain intact inside Russia. That is they can very reasonably believe that Russia is simply not capable of useful negotiations.. a peace is simply an undeclared war that is just as destructive but with an added layer of Russian disinformation on top. Something very like that has happened with the long strings of peace treaties and cease fires and armistices that end up getting broken while their in is still wet in any number of conflicts. Most people die in hospitals. It might be easy to conclude that hospitals are therefore the leading cause of death. Of course the opposite is correct dying in hospitals is not the same as dying from hospitals. Similarly. most wars end in diplomacy, but not BECAUSE of diplomacy. The reasons the war ends is because the war, or the costs of pursuing the war, make the true underlying goals of the parties shift. It's pretty hard to use coercive force to shift someone's goals away from their own perceived survival. As such, the way to achieve peace in a conflict like this is to erode the perception that it is an existential crisis for both sides. I very much doubt that is possible without an overwhelming defeat of one side or another. If a devastating defeat could be inflicted, the victor would feel more secure in their power, and thus less existentially threatened, and the defeated would be desperate to grasp at any straw of possible security from the largess of the Victor over the alternative of annihilation.

There is an initial assumption made in the video where no further explanation has be done. Russian's desire to dominate Eastern Europe by expanding its border to the former Russian Empire. Is this still the case? Oddly enough, I find the analysis has a strong Prussian mindset than of a Russian one.

I think the biggest lesson from this video is that we in Europe must turn to a new gear on military production. Primarily, we should use it to support Ukraine. Even in the unlikely scenario that the war would end with US support, it would then end with Ukraine's loss, which would lead to a new, bigger war, and we will need to be much better prepared. I really hope that russia's war economy will run out of steam, but we cannot make decisions like this based on just wishful thinking.

I remember back when Trump was calling Selenski during previous elections, that Trump asked Selinski for Ukraine investigations into Hunter Biden's involvement in fraudulent activities which Selinski ignored. Trump a poker face as he is, stopped aid officially, but then signed up for massive US Javelins deliveries to Ukraine, which helped them to stop Putins first attack, despite all disagreements Selinski and Trump had. Trump himself claimed that in public, that he had signed off on that particular aid. I assume that Trump makes Putin think that he'll cut aid, but ultimately won't - and that will cause Russian Army real trouble cause they currently stretch their logistics with moving forward at all costs and will get trapped once full EU & US support will hit the ground........I am only guessing but warfare is full of surprises.......as the most recent disclosure that US had delivered long range ATACMS despite all opposite statements in the past..... Source: German newspaper WELT, normally well informed cause it is owned by 36 % by US KKR Investors. www.welt.de/politik/ausland/video251208682/Bis-zu-300-km-Reichweite-USA-lieferten-heimlich-weitreichende-ATACMS-Raketen-an-die-Ukraine.html KKR however ist also involved in leasing business of 7 oil tankers shipping Russian OL despite an existing conflict: You might want to get this translated from German. www.berliner-zeitung.de/politik-gesellschaft/axel-springer-gesellschafter-das-schmutzige-russland-geschaeft-von-kkr-li.358965# To make a long story short: It I basically impossible to predict the outcome of this war, as input variables get modified (!) in your mathematical models & hence result rather in findings of the Chaos Theory. As we know, outcomes vary, once you model input (garbage) ...... Putin himself stated in the Tucker Carson interview: '....This war will end when those TWO decide it'll end - it has always been like this in the past....''

Is this war rational? If not, then game theory doesn't apply It seems to me that nations that feel unjustly attacked typically hold out for longer than is indicated by your lines on maps: they do so for emotional reasons, not rational ones. Russia's attack wasn't rational either: it seems to me founded on Putin's desire to be a reincarnation of Peter the Great, as much as on his misguided assessment of how far Ukrainians would welcome "liberation" by his troops.

I'm not so sure about the argument for Russia wanting to take much more. It may have been true at the start, when they may have believed that Ukrainians would be reasonably cooperative with a new regime but now, when it is clear that they would not be, the Kremlin has to consider their experience in Afghanistan. If they couldn't hold Afghanistan then they certainly can't hold a resisting Ukraine. Foir this reason I believe that the only "reaonable" Russian goal is the Oblasts that it has declared to be part of Russia.

All sane Americans are working to keep trump out of the White House. If he gains office, it will be the end of this country politically and in every other way. It is flawed thinking for you to talk about four years of trump if he wins. He has already told us he will be a dictator. The 22nd Amendment will mean nothing. If he dies in office, there will be an equally evil autocrat set up to take his place. Despite the fact that sane, reasonable Americans will vote for Biden as the only way to keep trump out of office, there is another glaring issue. trump only won in 2016 with the extensive help of Russia. It is no exaggeration to say that Putin owns trump. trump has no soul. trump's only god, his only reason for living is money, so Putin has bought him, as well as many members of the republicon party. There will be tremendous amounts of cheating up to November with lots of Russian help. It is clearly Putin's goal to destroy this country.

09:58 we know what Putin's ideal goal is: he has told us. He wants to re create the Russian Empire as it was under his hero, Peter the (so-called) Great. When an autocrat has told us that he's a land hungry imperial aggressor, it would seem wise to believe him. How far the personal goal of Putin represents the wish of the Russian state is a question of his hold on power, which seems to me more of an issue than the lines on military maps, and indeed than the US election. So it's the lines on the internal political "maps" within Russian society that seem to be too be more relevant here.

This video is just a load of waffling. The lines are so arbitrary, any hypothetical concessions will be done along the existing borders of Ukraines provinces. Provinces Russia already "annexed" into Russia proper (Crimea, Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts). It's just a matter of how many provinces Ukraine is willing to concede, if any. The creator is obviously more concerned with their watch time than they are with informing their viewers.

Let us hope @Gametheory101 doesn't bring us hyperplanes on hypermaps, where we must consider a whole continuum of lines on maps, or worse, a continuum of continuums of lines on maps, or worse still, a n-fold continuum of continuums of lines on maps... That being said, I'm a huge math fan, so thinking about the higher dimensional branching lines-on-maps space corresponding to branching decision making does sound really interesting, especially from a topological perspective.

I think that in the case of Trump, like you analyzed, the EU would step up their aid to counter US aid being cut. It is not like we have a choice. In contrast to the US, we Europeans (and a not so small sum of american soldiers stationed here) live on this continent. We would have to directly live with the consequences, if Ukraine would lose the war, all of them being utterly negative and existential threats to Europe. We don't want a Ukraine controlled by Russia, with Russian troops standing on an either longer border bordering Europe, threatening or even starting a war. Right now Ukraine is not only fighting a war to defend its independence, it is also fighting effectively a proxy war, as proxy for all the western nations that are opposed to an autocracy like Russia overthrowing the rule of law-based world order. And it is fighting a war for European security. As long as Russia is hold up in Ukraine, Russia will most likely not start a war with NATO and the EU (at least not a military one, they're still trying to destabilize us with Propaganda and stuff). So at the very least Europe wants to keep the Russians in Ukraine busy, but our ideal outcome is that Ukraine wins and liberates also the territories it lost in 2014, so Ukraine as a country is whole again, can join NATO and the EU, be rebuilt and contribute to the internal EU Market (Ukraine has Grain, Ukraine has some resources, e.g. Gas fields were found in Donbass (might explain Russian aggression there in 2014)) and Russia would be stretched and such a long border, they couldn't dare to attack Ukraine again, they wouldn't have a reasonable chance to win in a 2nd attempt and they would then for real fight NATO and not just a NATO-armed Ukraine. Besides, it would be huge positive advertisement for Europe and the EU as an idealistic concept, that the whole of Europe & Friends come together to rebuild Ukraine in a few years, like the Western Allies did with Western Europe after WW2, creating a bloc of allied, stable democracies there, that flourished. So yeah the US cutting aid would, in short order, disrupt military aid, until the EU has caught up. Ordering 200 tanks now doesn't mean, that they're there tomorrow, it still would take months. But the more you order the more personnel and manufacturing capability does the military industrial complex build up, then it can process these orders quicker. And in the mean time Ukraine would do its best to fortify and hold. They already do this now, fortifying their side of the current frontline to defend against a possible Russian Offensive in this summer and to grind down the Russians further.

Those lines are not drawn properly. RuZZia will not stop until the Dnieper river. That will be the future border line. Also, there will be no future help from the EU. Our economies are weak. Ukraine is doomed. Besides, they aren't taking it too seriously or don't care. They should be in full war-time mode, but they aren't. Half of the country is living just normally.

HEADLINE: Trump promises to "try and help Ukraine" QUOTE: Former US President and now a candidate for this position, Donald Trump, has stated that if he wins the election, he will strive to help Ukraine, but will also require the same efforts from Europe. (...) --- IE: The same 'make NATO pay their fair share' BS. Trump has no idea how NATO works. He is an ignorant boor and a sociopathic threat to democracy. AND - if Pres. Zelenskyy had heard that remark, I think I'd be hearing --- ALL THE WAY FROM KIEV - Zelenskyy screaming 'NO, NO, NO'. Warning to Trump - do NOT attempt to fly into Ukraine, ever in your life... if you want to stay alive. THEY HATE YOUR STINKING GUTS.

...Realistically Trump can say all he wants. It's not gonna happen. The smart and economical side of the Republican party is going to realize pulling out aid to Ukraine means our AMERICAN Arms industry will suffer as they won't be given contracts anymore to build equipment. Thus leading to a reduction in working staff meaning large scale firings thus less money in the overall economy. Smart politicians realize we aren't sending checks to Ukraine or massive amounts of money. We are contracting out American companies to build and make the aid we are sending out AS WELL AS battle testing any equipment that we're making to specifically counter Russian technology....AS WEEEELL as getting rid of equipment that needed to be gotten rid of anyways. Sending that equipment to Ukraine is a win win as regardless if it's not in the best condition it's still better than nothing and we also get to get rid of equipment without having to pay the costly dismantling and discarding services. If Trump wins we will continue to send stuff to Ukraine as it's just too beneficial to NOT do it. It stimulates the American economy as well as gives us not only free battle testing data....but battlefield data they PAID US to send to US.
