Very helpful as always. I also love that you're keeping with short clips/videos. Play 4 is inconclusive only because of video framing, imho. But I do agree with the comments below that either can be argued and therefore the key is communication and explaining the call, if asked or challenged, using rules terminology. Keep it up!!

These were good. I need to see more of these types of plays. I agreed on 3 plays but not two. Need to read more on goaltending.

ON a throw in If A1 passes the ball from out of bounds to team A cylinder and A2 catches the ball and dunks, is this a violation in NFHS?
@OfficialsInstitute3 жыл бұрын
If the ball is caught while it is within the imaginary cylinder, yes, however, if the ball is caught outside of the cylinder and then dunked into the cylinder it is legal. Does that make sense?

This is a case book play? This supports a BI violation.

Play 4 is an NFHS/NCAA difference play. In NFHS, it is a legal play, but in NCAA-M it is goaltending, because a ball off the backboard is considered to be on its downward flight by rule.

You are correct.

On play #4 the "safe" call is to go with GT because it is very close. Neither coach will likely say anything about the call. IMO, the ball is still going up. It is a legal play. Letting them play on will likely require an explanation for the coach of the offense because most HS coaches do not know what the GT rule is and think it is the same as the NCAA.

I've heard an argument both ways. Call goaltending because it's so close it'll be more accepted than not calling it. Let it go because giving 2 points for a legal block is wrong because officials shouldn't make a ruling based on what everyone else "perceives" as being right. Regardless of each argument, because it is so close, it is more important that you're able to explain to a coach why you did or didn't call goaltending. Communication is vitally important in much of what we do as officials. Thank you for your comments.

@@OfficialsInstitute I'm a believer in calling what is right regardless. I can explain what I saw and what the rule is, but communication is the key.

play nr1 is disputable imo because with his action (touching the net) the player causes the basket to move.
