It’s funny to me how many people square everything off OCD style in their settlement. I’m always a fan of just throwing my buildings around wherever they seem to fit. Clumps of buildings with a common area and doors coming together near a road, which isn’t ever straight. It looks more natural than a 21st century looking neighborhood looking place.

Some like Radom ( chaos) and others love to plan very in-depth as for future building ( Organized). One thing for certain I have seen some very beautiful places of both ideas, some work great and others do not.

I've attempted to plan a layout for the future settlement, but my ADHD kind of gets in the way, and before you know what's happened...well, I've traveled further than intended while chopping down trees and chasing whatever Alice-in-Wonderland adventure that takes my attention for 5 minutes, then I discover an area where I'm like, "THIS is it! I MUST start again here!", and then I start to run back to my house to begin destroying everything I meticulously put up (and spent the last IRL 72 hours grinding for), just to run back to that area and it happen all over again. So, I've started a "new" save, and I've been backpacking across the map using my campfire in random places until I have looked all over and really, seriously, decided on a spot. I've never played this game before until a week ago, and I've been all over with no real start. I want to see, do, and experience everything in the game. Graphics are my weakness, so I climb to the top of the mountain and look out, imagining what it would really feel like to be in that moment and seeing a vast landscape full of life. I'd love to have an experience where we spent a week living in the past, enjoying the sounds of nature and its fullest before the pollution from modern technologies took over. I listen to the birds every morning right before I get the kids up for school. I'll hear them from my bedroom window, but I'll also step onto my balcony and watch the sunrise and listen to the calm before the chaos of the morning, really take in the peace and serenity of nature around me. I'd have a home in the woods if I wasn't afraid bears would eat me lol

@@willow_rayne6678 this is great. I love how you describe a full immersion in a game ( which is totally relatable) and then instantly transition to real life and while reading it, I’m not sure which is which. So your anecdote was actually immersive too. RDR2 was that game for me. I caught myself taking in a view from a massive cliff… and then watching the sky for a few moments and wondering what it was like to see a sky back then with no airplanes. Only birds. And then I was mauled by cougar.

Idk why no one builds atop the mountain plateau? It’s just West of the Unstuck spot you said. SW from Gostovia-West of Unstuck intersection-there’s a triangle of road…. I built my whole village up there. From the triangle North, to the edge of the plateau, I’ve mostly cleared of trees, for houses, buildings, and farms. My chateau is on the edge of the flat looking over the valley. I cleared the slope down to the river (left of Gostovia looking down at the map) so I can see the river. It would be a ski slope if that were in. Lol. You can see forever from up here. No problem fitting in everything needed nearby. Except the mining camps I built. And a fishing camp on the river. I haven’t played that in a year. Just updated itself to version 2.0, so now I need to get to decorating, thank you! Lol. If I need more room for buildings or farms I can keep nibbling towards the Unstuck spot shown… I chose my spot because I built houses along the roads and my house on the scenic edge of the plateau for the view, and infilled farms etc between them. I don’t have YT videoing figured out yet but maybe I can screenie the map and some pics onto Steam?

What people don't seem to realize is you can build in multiple spots as storage is interconnected. So build your town wherever then build a house and a storage building near the lonely mountain. You can even stick a blacksmith, a second inn and food storage up there.

After hearing about the comment regarding different soil giving different crop yields, I was really curious to see if this was true as while I like the immersiveness of it, it does limit where I can base-build if I want farms. I did a lot of looking into any and all of the patch notes for this game that I could find and found no mention of soil fertility or varying crop yields aside from that one perk you can invest in. Just to be extra safe, I even performed in-game tests where I would plant several 2x2 (4 plot) farming areas throughout the map to test the different soils. My conclusion from the test is that soil DOES NOT affect crop yield in any way whatsoever. Farm and build wherever you like! Here is my test details: Seed Used: Flax, which yields either 1 (higher rate) or 2 (lower rate) flax per harvestable quadrant. There are 4 quadrants within every flax seed plot. Total yield can technically vary from 4-8 per plot. Soil types and Total Yields per 2x2 (min yield 16, max yield 32): - Unbroken Greenery soil ('Perfect soil'): 24 - Unbroken Greenery soil 2: 23 - Patchy soil (Green and brown): 21 - Patchy soil 2: 25 - Patchy soil 3: 20 - Pure Dirty soil (no grass): 23 - Beach Sand (coast of lake with no grass): 25 - Pure rock terrain (Not gravel like on coarse dirt, actual rock textures): 23

Best thing to do is to start small in the beginning and then explore for a permanent spot. my favorite spot is where the small stream meet the small island in the middle of the map, plenty of everything. collect rocks in winter (easy to spot). assigned workers to cut trees because trees are not being cut but logs and sticks will appears in resource building, same with mining. best method to make money, collect and sell berries in spring and summer, craft iron tools and arrows in fall and winter. build one resource building close to 1st village and use that as trade depot.

Your town does not need to be in one central location. You can have a mine and house at an entrance to a mine #5, farm and barn at #3, a fishing village at #2 and so on. All the resource building share inventory so just place those in strategic locations across the map where you can access them. Now once bandits are in the game that could change and it would be wise to have a palisade around your whole town in one central spot.

I have over 100+ hours in the game. One important item in picking a base location is it's proximity to other towns. Once you reach tier 3 everything and have your palisade, walls, storage and crafting buildings, and houses built. With max villagers, you'll find you will have nothing to do except run around selling the stuff you craft. I found I needed 4 - 5 towns no too far away because I could easily clean out all the money from multiple vendors in multiple towns in a single day. (Remember 3 day season)

I decided to build my village in your #5 Lonely Mountain spot (after going with the big open spot W of Gostovia during my first run and finding it painfully dull) and I love it! I have my building settings at 200% and have been able to build a sprawling, bustling village in this spot. I love having the mine at the center of the village - a convenient source of minerals with each change of season and the location is convenient to towns and resources (except straw, but believe me folks - you will have more straw than you know what to do with later in the game, especially if you do much farming). I just wanted to mention this in case anyone finds that spot appealing but worries it isn't very realistic for a mid-large size village. Go for it, it's an awesome spot. Thanks for pointing it out 🐸.

Personnaly, my village is build west to gostovia, split in half on the on the end of the river (next to a tiny island) coming from your 2nd spot village lake. This spot have basically everything you want. River to fish and drink, reeds at west and east kinda close, rocks, berries, woods, boars deers and rabbits. Lands are pretty flats, and a bit higher lots of forest and trees. You re pretty close to denica, and not far from gostovia, and if you cross the river you re front of the Branica/Baranica duet. Also you re between 3 mines (2 mines at 600/700m and the last one 800).

Best starting place is west of Gostovia, where the road Y's just west of the bridge. There are ample resources and space for farm land. there are trees, rocks, clay, berries, mushrooms, plantains and St John's wart gallore. A hunting shack near the hill will yield you plenty of meat, and an excavation shed will give you more than enough clay and stone to get started. Later it is a good idea to explore an outcrop at the cave at No 5. I build two houses, a barn, a mine and both resource and food storage near the cave and had a family that farmed and a family that mined live there. Works great, especially with shared storage, because I can take from those storages to either of the two nearby villages. The importance of being near other villages is underplayed in this video, I think. Much of your time will be spent traveling to various traders to sell your goods, this means the shorter the trips the better. Being near Gostovia, you have four traders in that village alone, and two in the village just across the river. There are also two in Danica(Denica?), anyway it will save you a ton of running around. Especially early on when inventory space is limited and you are doing a lot of quests.

Along the stream running East from the lake is a cave and along the stream running North from the lake is a clay pit. The land between those two streams is fairly level and has an abundance of all resources. There every type of animal nearby. Hogs, wiscent, rabbit, deer, lynx, and fox run through the area. There are bear across the Eastern stream from the cave and wolves to North.

The "unstuck" feature was never designed to be used as a means for fast-traveling. The devs built that into the current version because its still in its alpha build and it's quite easy to get stuck in an area where you can't move out of. Location #2 is idyllic but not practical. Most of your story line centers around the town where you pay your taxes, so that means you have to do a lot of running back and forth, through a known area where packs of wolves operate, if you build your settlement by this lake.
@Dare_To_Game

I do have a satellite mining spot for that mine. Its pretty flat with an obscene amount of trees that have to be cleared but its pretty flat with moose, deer, boar, and numerous other things relatively close. Honestly there aren't any major downsides except maybe rock not being the most plentiful but even that isnt a big deal. Although the first village isnt my favorite town to trade in, there are definitely a number of advantages especially early on.

I just built a small outcrop there in addition to my main village near Gostovia. I just put a couple houses, a farm, a mine and food and resource storages. The family in one house mines and the other farms. Gives me plenty of iron/rock/salt plus a tone of flax and wheat. Plus with shared storage I have convenient access to nearby villages to sell stuff.

I built just slightly west of the Unstuck location. I just followed the road until they intersected kinda close to the mountains. Tons of woods, pretty flat area. Didn't really know about farmland yields so I'm not 100% sure but on a 3x3 spot I'll easily get over 50 cabbages. The only slight issue is that water is a bit further away than I'd like. Although the cave is very close though as well as Sambor is often hunting in that area so it's nice not to have to go running all over the place. Plus with Gostovia being so close I can easily go there and steal their rye and wheat in the spring and summer and make a killing as well as have way more food than anyone can eat.

I'm on my 3rd game start about 150 hours into it. My town is where you are West of the spawn point one sprint distance away. Nice flat area, down side is not large water body for a fishing hut. Water for drinking is not an issue in the game as you can get a free water skin from the very start. I also built a resource building directly on the spawn point for ease of use. When horses are added I wont use unstuck anymore but until then it is fair game imo.
@ironwolf9876
@ironwolf9876 4 жыл бұрын
@@Blaze_1961 I find the ease in which to mine, find trees, berries, you name it makes this spot a real winner. Fishing doesn't seem to be worth it yet IMO. A close water resource is useful for turning all that flour into bread but about 4-5 buckets fixes that problem rather quickly anyways. I'm looking forward to when there are more jobs villagers can do. I haven't built a tavern yet because the tax required for it to basically be an empty building kills me.

I actually started at #4 and decided to move to #2, but more to the west next to the little stream. These are all great ideas, the other one I have seen is very very south below Hornica right next to the mine (SE corner). The one thing I learned really quick about #2 is wolves and Boar will attack your NPCs and follow them home. As of right now they cannot hurt your people but I planned to put Palisades around my town in prep for the bandits. While I agree with @jeff Burnham about the unstuck, I feel they need to either get a fast travel feature or get the horse/ox riding put in very very fast. I have been trapped in my own home and food storage due to a dumb@55 NPC blocking it, so I had to use the unstuck a couple times.

I chose to place my village down stream from #5. I'm on the main body of water, there's rock deposits, st. John's Wart, Broadleaf Plantain, some decent land for farming, reeds, and in the woods immediately to the East there's Wisent, Deer, Rabbit, Fox and occasionally Boars. You're just a short distance from the northern Iron mine and 4 villages. Tons of leather and sticks make selling torches a rich source of early income and when you're ready you can shift to iron arrows.

I've got my village to the East of Gostovia, where the little stream or creek is there, to include a crossroads. I'm really digging it at the moment as there as a waterfall a little bit up the stream with a bit of space for an estate right next to it. Depending on how many building slots I've got left after I finish this village I may try and do a second one at your #4 or #5... #4 seemed interested to seem, like some kind of water town, or something

Well #2 is pretty dangerous due to wolf and dangerous animals so be prepared ! My favorite spot is between Gostovia and Denica when the main road split in two. The location is perfectly centered and near every villages (exept of hornica and jezerica), the place is rather safe (angry wild boar but... you can deal with it ^^) huge plain for your crops, an exellent hunting spot just after the river near to denica, beautifull forest, a tone of stone. It's pretty far from mine but... we can't have everything isn't it ?

Correct me if I'm wrong. But your workers don't actually need to be near a resource to gather it. In other words they would manage to gather trees even high up the mountains. Or would be just as efficient at getting clay nowhere near the water

It's been a year and the game is on full release so the point about trees growing back doesn't apply anymore they nixed that so no longer relying on trees growing back but put npc at the woodworking shop and you get wood without affecting the amount trees in the area unless you cut them down yourself then they don't grow back. But for building locations I built my village on the same shoreline 2 bridges away from the initial starting village where you pay taxes for the water, wood, and reeds and its on the road and on the tree line in the forest so unlimited hunting, and food scavenging opportunities Farming has been great I only have 4 large fields but the harvest have been huge and the orchard is growing now if livestock animals weren't so expensive I'd have more than two geese it really sucks not having a horse.
