Five Days in Barbados

On 20 May I flew down to Barbados for a five day vacation. I wasn't sure what to expect. As it turns out, Barbados is a wonderful country and I would highly recommend it as a vacation destination to anyone who enjoys beautiful scenery, good food and friendly people.

Wow, what a spectacular view, picturesque landscapes and the ...turtle playing with monkeys. Lovely. I wish I had deeper pocket and one day could put my feet on the fabulous promised land. Well, only time will tell.

I *loved* Barbados! I can't stop thinking about it. I was really, really impressed by the people. I've never seen friendlier people in my life. If the world was run by Bajans, we'd all be a lot better off.

Bridgetown is more of a business centre than a tourist centre. I don't know what you were expecting out of Bridgetown, but it has some beautiful architecture, scenery, you can watch Barbadians going about their business, have a meal, do some shopping. Bridgetown is a full blown city, not a quaint little Caribbean village that they setup for the benefit of visitors. I'd say they have done pretty well by any measure, let alone for a nation of slave descendants.

Thanks for your comment! The video is only the tip of the iceberg. I didn't take video of the Friday night fish-fry at Oistens. You'll visit that, of course, and I'm sure will have a cold Banks beer or two. Also, Harrison's Cave was absolutely wonderful. I've never seen anything like it. I was only in Barbados for five days and would return tomorrow if I could. Good luck with your move and with all the wonderful things you'll see exploring this beautiful island.

You're making assumptions that I was hoping for some quaint trinket town. Not at all. Bridgetown might be fine on a guided tour, but I was on my own. No signs from the bus station pointing out where the sights are. My guidebook listed three major attractions: parliament building, cathedral and synagogue. ALL closed. I just wandered small, windy streets with hair salons and nail parlors + cab drivers bothering me every two seconds. I LOVE Barbados, but Bridgetown just didn't impress me.
