Transcript FiveatFive E37 Talk with Severin Trogbacher Translation German into English Patricia H. Conchita Wurst Fan Corner Deutschland Tom: It’s a new week, it’s a new Monday. It’s a new music Monday. In a FiveatFive week. And I am extremely excited about todays guest. Its Severin Trogbacher. My bandleader/musical director. Did everybody watched the FREE ESC. I hope so. It was exciting. It was so much fun. I still feel the buzz. I have hard time sleeping if I am honest. I am still full of adrenalin. Beautiful emotions ST: Hello Tom: Greetings. Sevi you hairs are growing so fast. ST: I finally have a date tomorrow. Tom: But what you think. I is looking really good. ST: It is not practical. Unbelievable Tom: It’s a shame, but I do not know how we found together. Who did arrange it? ST: It did arranged Lukas Hildebrandt. Dora asked Hildebrandt. And Hildebrandt brought up together my contact. We came then pretty fast in direct contact. To meet each other and discuss what we could do together. Tom: Ah, so goes the hare. ST: Exactly Tom: It was about time that I am getting support. How did you start to put this band together. ST: First of all I have listen into the music. Then thought about what we are doing live. Cause back then it was already in the room. Normal band and orchestra field. I choosed it good musicians. Musician which I could imagine also at the orchestra field. Last but not least with the ulterior motive that we will simple spend a lot of time together. That is has to fit well in human terms. Tom: We have a lot of fun together. ST: For good sake I nearly know such collegues. Tom: What is the reason that we are playing in Linz always the best concerts. And that so much musicians are coming from upper Austria. ST: It is the fact that the upper Austrian music institute is one of the best in Austria. That a lot of young talents are being promoted. Tom: Westbelt united. Tell me. What was the motivation. And what is this overall? ST: Westbelt United was an idea which happened after I came back from a long tour. I fell in the typical post tour hole. I thought I am going on sessions. I am starting to meet my old pals to play with them. And then somehow there was nothing. What is the most beautiful think for me to jam, that nobody knows what´s going on. When you just start to make music. Nobody knows what will come of it. And because there where not such thing. Then I just thought we´d just have to do something like that. Luck also wanted it in our local pup LOOP, the then bar boss was extremely interested in this idea. He just said. Ok lets do it, you will get my pup for it. 2 or 3 weeks after this conversation we tried out our first session. It was full of people and all had fun. We immediately went on this 2 week rhythm. Opening the evenings. And that the musicians never agree in advance what they are going to play. There is obligation to improvise. Then we are playing around for one hour. Then the stage is free. Every musician who is there with his instrument can just get together with the others. Tom: Also newcomer, fresh from college. Then there will certainly be things that end up on an album or production. ST: There are some bands who had been form out of loop sessions. As far as I can see from the pop and rock sector people had been engaged from people. Who are hearing suddenly a drummer. What the hell who is he. And they are engaging him on the spot. Tom: When something great is happen. Do you think. Did we taped it? How it is going on? ST: The thing with the recording is a story for itself. I made the experience when taping. Is is just not the same emotion as it was on that evening. To establish a groove for over a minute. It is really great to take the time for it to let develop the grooves. When you hear it afterward at a tape it can happen to you after several second. It could happened something more right now. Tom: When something is coming. Wow this was just casual now. I must do it again or I create something. Then I sometimes slip into this performance box. And then it takes away the ease. ST: You just must hire always someone who is filming secretly. So that you don´t know that something is being recorded. Tom: I loved it to go with you and Edo and the Cruise ships. Imagine we should have been quarantined back then. All. What I love about on our collaboration. You are so flexible. Acoustically. With orchestra. At the stage. And then right up to the electronic album. It was a challenge for the band constellation. ST: I thought we are doing this. Or course it had been an extreme close collaboration with our producer, Alvin. What was a good move is that we stocked up on two key borders. We needed anyway the breath for the implementation for the orchestral, the Symphonic album. And then in close work together with Alvin. Tom: The start of our tour we had in November. With the release concert. It was so awesome. The mood was amazing. And then we had been on tour. But unfortunately there are still missing a few concerts. But we see us soon. ST: Yes Tom: Next Sunday my first live stream concert. Without audience. Now probably people will hear us who are talking silly all the time. ST: We will then start with the broadcast at 3 p.m. Or when we can come in. Then we will broadcase the complete rehearsal and dinner. Tom: This is not a bad idea. We are going to work that out right now. ST: If now everything is relaxed again step by step. Who knows what we will come up with then. Over the next months. Tom: We are making plans. Thank you Sevi.
