Some yes, but we should remember that some of these practices also lead to disease, necromancy sometimes required the body of the dead to perform certain rites, and that is an easy way to get Cholera. Necromancy in ancient times wasn't just about Ouja boards and dowsing. And witchcraft itself has some practices that are very brutal including that some Scandinavian love potions required the use of menstrual blood, in a drink to cause the victim to fall in love with the brewer
