Instead of more soy sauce, I would highly recommend oyster sauce. It has the salty flavor, a little sweetness and a depth of flavor. It’s typically used in the meat filling of eggrolls. Other suggestions is to add a carrot and add Chinese cooking wine or rice wine vinegar

So, this is going to sound odd, but I need you to just run with me for a moment. To get every last possible bit of the sriracha (or any other sauce/condiment) twist the top closed, place it tip down in a narrow plastic bag, like a bread bag. Now grab the open end of the bad and spin it around like a lasso, the force of the spin will push all the sauce to the tip. Cause you definitely could have gotten more out of that bottle.

🤯 I'm..... I'm so impressed by this tip! I can't wait to try this. I just add a little bit of water and use the watered down Sriracha in a pot of beans or in a spicy mayo.

@@springshine6465 I always do the water thing too. When making marinara sauce I use water to get every bit of plain tomato sauce out of the can. For any recipe if you're willing to cook it until the water evaporates, it is worthwhile to use that method. The whole centripetal force thing I don't think I'd wanna do it....I'd probably end up screwing it up and spraying the food all over the floor 😭🤣👏👏👏

For the egg roll in a bowl, try adding one of the following: Hoisin Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Black Bean sauce. They are staples in Chinese cooking and give that depth of flavor that you’re missing

Hey, I enjoy watching you feed your large family in a healthy way. I don't have kids yet, but I try to feed myself and my husband in a budget friendly way (overseas in Europe) and I would like to give you this recipe and see if it would be as budget-friendly in the US, as it is here. So the recipe is called "Sirene po Shopski" (Cheese Shopski style), it is Bulgarian (where I am from) and in my opinion, it is really good. May sound a bit like shakshouka, but the difference is the raw tomatoes. So there it is (I give the proportions per person, cause obviously I cook for two and you - for six). Per one person: 2 raw tomatoes or one big one, sliced in large flat pieces 100 grams of white brine cheese (Bulgarian traditional white cheese or Feta cheese or any white brine cheese) cut in large flat pieces 10 g butter 2 eggs 1 chili pepper (optional) For this recipe, you need a lidded baking tray (or Jena glass tray, just anything that has a lid that can hold heat). So you slice the tomatoes and cheese in flat chunks. You arrange one row of tomatoes in the baking tray, put some butter on top, then arrange the cheese, another row of tomatoes and the remaining butter. You can add salt if you like, but I don't cause Bulgarian white cheese is already very salty. If you use feta or any other white brine cheese that is not salty, add salt to taste. You put the chili pepper whole on top. You bake that in the lidded tray for 20 minutes in preheated 200 degrees Celsius oven. After 20 minutes are up, you remove the lid and crack in the eggs. You can either leave the yolks whole or puncture them. Bake for 5-10 minutes without a lid (depending on how raw you like the egg yolks). Then the dish is ready to serve! It goes great with toast, plane tortilla (baked) or just any bread. I find it ideal for the summer cause the tomatoes taste better, but it is also very nice for a winter evening where you are just lazy to cook something complicated. I find the toast goes great when it is drizzled with some olive oil, oregano and salt on top and then baked (I put it in in the hot oven for 2-5 minutes after I take the dish out). I promise, the recipe may look plain, but it is really delicious. Hope you cook it someday and like it.

The Little House On The Prairie Cookbook is a terrific resource for cooking on a budget. Here's a tip -- the vinegar pie recipe is good as is, but try using white instead of brown sugar, double the number of eggs, just using the yolks in the pie base and use the whites with a bit of sugar and cream of tartar to make a meringue. Tastes like lemon meringue pie! I won a ribbon at the county fair in the "other" pie category.

How I made egg roll filling, and would make egg roll in a bowl for your double portion would be to fry the meat off, set aside. Then I would add a chopped large yellow onion, a couple of minced cloves of garlic, grated (not microplaned) ginger, and grate a couple of stalks of celery, and cook in the beef fat until soft. Then I would add the same amount of cabbage as you did, and then two or three big carrots, grated, and then once those have softened, I would had a smiley face spoon-full of peanut butter. Yep, peanut butter. Stir well to dissolve the peanut butter and then add soy sauce or tamari, sriracha or sambal olek, and salt if needed. I don't use sesame oil, but you could add it if you wanted, and after tasting. I went to high school with the children of the family that ran my home town's Chinese resturant. They had the BEST egg rolls, and so I asked them once why their egg rolls were so good and they told me the ingredients, which is what I posted above, and that they spread a bit of peanut butter on the egg roll wrappers before filling them. That was the secret!

For our eggroll bowls, I just remember to balance flavors. Asian recipes usually have a balance of salty, sweet, sour, heat. So for me, that's often soy, brown sugar, a little vinegar, and sambal or sriracha. I also add shredded carrots and diced onion for a bit of natural sweetness and complexity. Ground pork instead of beef is also good!

I stumbled onto your page a few days ago and love what I've seen! You cook a lot like I cook (but I'm just one person!). One thing I do is if my local grocery has discounted vegetables I will buy whatever the have and then prep them for later use. Things like leafy greens I tend to use quickly because they don't store well. But if I've scored a bag of carrots for $1.10 I will grate them on my cheese grater and then freeze flat. That way I can break off a piece and add it to whatever I'm cooking when I might *not* have carrots readily available! I know this won't work for everyone but it has saved me a lot!

I have bought & used imitation crab meat then froze left over meat for later use and stock up when I find it on sale. A little can go a long way in a recipe and the meat absorbs whatever flavors you pack it into. Also, more garlic; a LOT MORE. Kill the garlic salt or powder variety and use either fresh OR pre-minced in a jar (only way to go) and it will last IF you measure using a spoon instead of eyeing it. In fact all ingredients will stretch further if you measure them.

I dont really have a recipe but this is what I usually put in mine when I make it. Ground beef Cabbage Carrots Celery Onion Mushrooms Minced Garlic Sesame oil Olive oil Soy sauce Coconut aminos(this gives you the sweet flavor. Either that or I add some monk fruit sweetener to make it lower carb. Brown meat then drain that and set aside. Saute all the veggies and minced garlic in the sesame oil and olive oil except the cabbage until slightly tender and then add the cabbage to your pan. I use salt and garlic salt to season to taste. Once the cabbage starts to cook down a bit, add the ground beef to the pan and add liberal amounts of both the soy sauce and the coconut aminos. Keep tasting as you go and add more of the sauces if needed. I like to put a good amount extra so that I have some extra juice to put over my cauliflower rice or regular rice for my husband and kids. Hope this helps!

You should keep those beef roast bones and use them with the celery onion and carrots to make your own stock. It stores wonderfully in a mason jar and then you don’t have to every buy salted bouillon ever again. And, avocados don’t have to be brown or black to use them; they just have to feel soft =)

You could do bulgoi ground beef. It's pretty simple to make. Soy sauce 1/4 cup, 2 tablespoon brown sugar, minced garlic and ginger, some toasted sesame seeds. Add in after you drain beef. I also use gochujang instead of Sriracha. It has less salt and you can use less of it to make it spicy. Gochujang contains rice for those who don't know (gluten). Bulgoi normally requires an Asian pear. But I leave it out, I've found the brown sugar makes it sweet enough.

It might have been missing a sour taste in the egg roll bowl. Chinese cooking wine or some kind of acid (rice vinegar maybe) would have rounded out the taste. I think that’s what was missing.

You can make cabbage patties Sprinkle the cabbage with salt and let it sit - like you would do with cucumbers when making tzatziki - so the water drains from the cabbage. I usually leave it for 30 to 60 min. Then rinse of the salt and squease the the cabbage to get most of the water of it. Mix in a bowl with eggs, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. I don't have the exact measurements but it has to be wetter than if you were making regular patties because the breadcrumbs will suck up a lot of moisture. Then just fry them in a pan.

I have been on your channel before but with the recent upset round the world I was all over your channel yesterday to find recipes to stretch my money further whilst still having a delicious meal. I am not one to comment frequently but I just HAD TO come on here today, as we tried your Tortilla Chicken Soup recipe, to let you know that it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I cannot believe the simple ingredients that are in it but it is soooo flavorful! Definitely a new favorite! Keep up the great posts.

If you put your avocados in a brown paper bag they ripen quicker.

Even faster if you pop a banana in the bag with the avocado. Bananas release something when they ripen that ripens everything near them - which is why i lot of fruit bowls have a banana hook on top to keep the bananas from ripening your other produce too fast.

Similar to your "bad" bowl is unstuffed cabbage roll casserole made with ground beef, cabbage, garlic, onions, and tomato sauce. Mix all together, season to taste. Put in a casserole covered with lid or foil and bake @ 350 until heated through and cabbage soft. This freezes and reheats well also.

I use sausage instead of ground beef. Egg rolls don’t use ground beef, but pork. Just think about what is typically in an egg roll & just delete the wrapper.

I just found u today and I'm bench watching ur videos... Tip to get ur avocados ripe faster grab a piece of newspaper and rolled then up and put them by ur stove or the hottest place in ur kitchen and they will get ripe with in a day or two just don't for get then cux they will go over ripped For ur tacos u can substitute for corn tortillas and fry them and top them with refried beans , lettuce, and tomatoes slices ,sour cream and greated cheese and there are called taco dorado's / flautas (hard tacos rolled up or takitos ) and u have a taco Tuesday.. or if u have left over chicken chop some tomatoes and onions sauteed them all together and add a pinch of cummin and you have tinga roolled them up put a toothpick so they don't unrolled when frying . Then add the same toppings on top.

So because of the inspiration from your videos, tonight I didn't know what were going to make, tonight but we had a frozen sausage round in the freezer. I looked through my pantry and fridge leftovers and made a rice and sausage dish, with fried onions, shredded carrots, shredded ice berg and the last of a jar of sauerkraut that would never have gotten used otherwise. Cooked the rice in leftover chicken broth, curry powder, chopped cilantro and chili flakes. It was a huge hit and cleaned out the fridge!

You should make actual southern style pinto beans! If your husband likes creamy beans you can’t beat a bowl of beans! Use 1/2 onion, a ham hock or just a left over ham bone or seared bacon or store bought ham base powder, 1lb of dry beans soaked overnight then rinsed, and about 1 quart of water in a pot bring to a boil then cover and simmer for 6-8hours. My great grandmother always took about a cup of beans out and smashed them with a fork then added back to the soup to make it very creamy. She also would throw a half stick of butter in about an hour before they were done. She always served this with corn bread and home made canned hot peppers which are similar to sliced pickled peppers. It’s the one meal I miss the most 🥰

My sons and I would make pepperoni pizza with the discounted French bread 🥖 or Italian bread at Walmart. We have bought it for 33 cents before. Our sauce would be 1 can of tomato sauce with Italian seasoning and minced garlic. Finishing it off with pepperoni and shredded mozzarella cheese as toppings. One of the top favorite meals we make together and they don’t realize I created it due to the tight budget of being a single mother.

Good Morning! I'm watching the video and trying to post as I go-- did you know you can dehydrate cabbage? You can! It's a great alternative to keep in the pantry for those low produce weeks and frugal meal weeks. There are so many things you can dehydrate. It's awesome for all of your, as you call it, "crap you throw together nights". Dehydration will extend your produce life and ingredients so far! I paid about $35 for my basic dehydrator and now I have a shelf full of dehydrated veggies and fruit...and it's yummy snacks without preservatives! Merry VLOGMAS #10~

the recipe that I have used forever for my eggrolls is a little different! I use pork sausage, onions, cabbage, carrots, soy sauce I just brown my sausage and onions together, add a little bit of flour to thicken, just a tablespoon or so! add the cabbage, shredded carrots, and soy sauce and let simmer for a little bit. I always put my meat mixture in a colander because for some reason it gets soupy and you don't want soupy meat going into a eggroll wrapper! sometimes I add more soy, and sometimes I do add a little sugar it helps bring the salt out. then assemble! easy peasy! enjoyed the video! xoxo

I made the chicken tortilla soup with a few modifications (couldn't find a small bottle of cumin at the 2 stores I checked) so I made it work with additional taco seasoning...added the cheese and avocado and a squeeze of lime at the very end...THE BEST chicken tortilla soup I have ever had. Even my son gave it his approval (even though he picked all the chicken out first). All I know is it was very easy, I had most of the ingredients on hand already, and I am absolutely stuffed.

I know I’m a year late, LOL, but I had the same issue with egg roll in a bowl. I ended up using Hot Jimmy Dean ground sausage because it had more flavor.. add in the cabbage, soy sauce, ginger, and I season it all with garlic powder, onion powder, salt pepper, or even Everything Bagel seasoning..if I have it. I like eating it on small, wheat tortillas with a line of sour cream on top!! Soooooo good and so much more flavor!

Egg roll in a bowl, or crack slaw. More ginger, soy and fresh garlic, I also add red bell peppers. Really yummy if you add enough spice and flavorings. My first try at it, I had the same results as you. But you can flavor it up some more. Cooking Keto with Christy has a good recipe for it

On the egg roll in a bowl, I haven’t ever made a recipe like that, but my best trick for fixing a bland dish is to add acid. If you feel like you’ve added enough salt, but it still tastes flat, try adding some apple cider vinegar, lemon or lime juice, or for Asian dishes, I like rice wine vinegar. Doesn’t take much. I start with a cap full for recipes for my family of four.

Egg Roll in a Bowl. All you are missing is fish sauce and ginger to give that strong korean bbq flavor that you are after and that has to be cooked into the meat. Also the Cabbage needs its own flavors of ground ginger, garlic and a dash of brown sugar to allow the sweet and spicy to come out and compliment the seasonings. If you don't have that a quick dash of Worcestershire sauce as you saute your ground beef will add more savoriness to the dish and heighten the flavors.
