Great advice….im getting back into my river fishing and euro nymphing is the technique I’m learning. At the moment I’m struggling…getting takes but losing fish. I think I’m not seeing the take but feeling it…..giving the fish a chance to get off. I’ll keep at it though. BTW…nice to see you tramping through the woodland on my home river ..the Taff. I live opposite that stretch!

Thank you for the great nymphing content Lindsay. When you are nymphing areas with lots of vegetation, like you were in parts of this video, do you try to treat the top of the vegetation as the bottom or still try to get all the way down to the soil? I am just starting my journey, but have not got on very well with vegetation.

There will be natural channels through the weed you have to try and get your nymphs into those channels

Hi Lindsay, great videos and I’m really enjoying your content I am thinking of getting a Euro Nymph style rod but do you have any advise if this style rod could still fish small spiders and Nymphs with a traditional floating fly line Thanks in advance for any advice or comments Stephen
@lindsayiflyfish4 күн бұрын
Hi Stephen, I used to use the Hanak Superb for everything spiders, dries and Euronymphing. It is primarily a Nymphing rod but will do everything else at a pinch.

@@lindsayiflyfish thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my query, really appreciate it, I’m jut weighing up whether I invest in a traditional 4 or 5Wt fly rod for the majority of my river fishing or go with a dedicated Nymphing rod, I think I already know the correct answer… it’s both 😳🎣🎣
@lindsayiflyfish3 күн бұрын
@@stephenparry-jones5608 Sadly fly fishing is a compromise and although you can get by with one rod it never quite does everything you want.

I remember when the first brass beads became available to us. It changed the way I fished from day one. Being able to bounce your fly along the bottom, changed the way I fished! You could feel the difference between a rock and a fish, it was incredible.

Evolution, move forward or stand still, with fly fishing you have luxury of choosing. I heard about your father Kerry and I am sorry for you loss.

Lindsay, sorry if this has been asked below. I was taught that if you are fishing 3 flies then the middle should be the heaviest. You seem to suggest that the point should be the heaviest. What is your advice? By the way this I am looking for your advice and not expressing an opinion because I am absolutely rubbish at euro/Czech nymphing!
@lindsayiflyfish Жыл бұрын
There is a school of thought that would suggest putting the heavy fly in the middle. The lighter fly would then waft behind it. I as a rule only fish 2 flies when Nymphing only a personal choice. Sometimes only one fly.

I loved this. Gently informative. On the last "sin" I would add that you are always forgiven and blessed when you "look around." Missing a trout is a bummer. Missing the beauty of nature is much worse. That said, watch and sense you line! (Shoot for 96.8% of the time).

History and traditions are important. So is knowledge built from years of dedicated time on the water. The question to ask yourself is always do I fish like my great great granddad spend all day repeating the same cast same fly same presentation eventually the odd fish will take. Or with modern tackle and methods you can target the fish with the right fly presented in the correct part of the water column. In the way the fish are actively feeding. So do you want to actually catch fish or chuck fur feather and thread then put it in the lap of fate are you even going to see a fish? You point out the ways that give us the info that improve our prospects of getting more enjoyment from our day
@lindsayiflyfish2 жыл бұрын
I am a big fan of each to their own pal. I caveat that with if you want to encourage younger people into the sport you have to give them the best chance of catching fish.
