fun fact! its interesting you ordered "yoshimi" and boredoms next to each other, as "yoshimi" was inspired by the flaming lips meeting the drummer from boredoms, yoshimi-o. the front man for the flaming lips saw her perform, and thought that her style was similar to someone 'fighting' monsters while playing music, which is where he got the idea about writing an album about her fighting robots. you should really check out yoshimi-o's other work with bands like OOIOO. she is a generational talent out of japan and has worked with kim gordon, ween, and more.

you gotta hear "Deceit" by "This Heat", it's some of the most defining and macabre experimental rock out there so it's definitely worth a listen.

self titled better. Deceit sounds like child's play after you've heard that

@@kadnaz that's my point. for something claimed to be "macabre" and "definiting experimental", the second albums sure is tuneful. the self titled is where the real artsinsss of the band lies. and for extra hipster points I'll claim that Deceit is the sell-out.

Don't know if it counts cause it's a compilation, but the Brian Eno compilation "No New York" should definitely be heard by everyone at least once. It's in the genre of No Wave just like "The Ascension" by Glenn Branca, but I would say that this is even more important in terms of the genre. This compilation features way more variety in sound as it features many different founders of No Wave (specifically James Chance and the Contortions, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Mars, and DNA). If you haven't checked it out, you really should!!

You should also check out: Fantasma - Cornelius Los peores 7 km de mi vida - Corea The Dance of the Moon and the Sun, Daughters of Darkness, or The Winter Ray - Natural Snow Buildings 輪廻交響楽 (Ecophony Rinne) - Geinoh Yamashirogumi Hole - Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel Don't know if classical pieces count as albums but if they do then: The Rite Of Spring - Igor Stravinsky Tabula Rasa - Arvo Pärt Akhnaten - Philip Glass The Planets - Gustav Holst 4:33 - John Cage (IYKYK)

From your RYM, I feel like you would enjoy The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms. It’s a really well-made album that, despite being slept on by the general public I believe, is really an essential in American post-punk and indie rock and influenced a whole load of acts after it.
@arrow2593 Жыл бұрын
If I saw correctly on your RYM page you haven't listened to any Camel! I definitely recommend their album "Moonmadness" the most since you've said in a past video that listening enjoyment matters more than technical prowess always, this is just the prog album for you. Another one I saw you haven't checked out is "Can't buy a Thrill" by Steely dan, classic, a bit different than Aja though. Another one I see you haven't listened to is "The Jester Race" by In Flames, sick album.

Excited to hear your thoughts on De La Soul. 3 Feet High and Rising is great but actually far from my favorite De La album. There's something to the purity of 3 Ft High but I much prefer the cynicism and darkness of the records that followed. Definitely listen to 3 Ft High first though!

Gilberto Gil's Expresso 2222 completely changed the brazilian mpb scene from tropicalia to a more traditional brazilian north-eastern sound that you can hear in the rest of the 70s. I personally prefer his absolutely perfect "RE-trilogy" in the late 70s but Expresso 2222 is the essential and probably the best starting point to his music.

Bloc Party's Silent Alarm is one of my alltime favourites, and is just amazing IMO, although personally, I found that their live performance doesnt quite capture the magic they can write in studio. Intimacy and Hymns are also very good albums, and a couple of the Silent Alarm Remix songs are just transcendant.

I fucking love Silent Alarm. As someone who grew up hearing my parents play that kind of music in the car as a little kid in the 2000s it gives me a lot of nostalgia and it's even more amazing that Paramore took inspiration from it on their latest album. Like, Paramore were one of the big four emo-pop-punk bands that came up in the mid-2000s and they could've so easily capitalized on the post-Olivia Rodrigo pop-punk revival, but nope! They called back to the 2000s, but a much different and more mature side of 2000s rock that fits them far better now that they're in their 30s and striving to move forward artistically. That, to me, was the final confirmation that Paramore are legit as fuck.

in regards to post-punk, Pink Flag probably is not post punk. It's an excellent album. But like Radio Head or even the Flaming Lips, the debut albums seem to be "qualifying runs". They are just testing if the machine works and is ready to really be pushed. The next four Wire albums are probably the blue prints for every post-punk band that would follow. Almost the same with Bon Iver. An excellent debut, but it's the quantum leaps on the few albums that I think he will be really remembered for.......regardless, well done on these. I have definitely picked up a few albums that I had overlooked and appreciate the enthusiasm and curiosity for all types of music.

While Punk Rock was raw, angry, fast, and minimal, Post-Punk took those elements and tweaked them, either making the music more compositionally technical, drawing directly from outside influences like Reggae, Jazz, Funk, or Experimental, or replacing parts of the original Punk formulae like making it sad or anxious rather than angry or wild. Basically, Post-Punk is to Punk what Cloud Rap is to Hip-Hop.
@closeconscious Жыл бұрын
there is plenty of punk that has more qualities than just raw, angry, fast, or minimalistic. And there's lots of punk that's compositionally technical. I think dumbing down entire genres to their most common result isn't fair.
@HMz83 Жыл бұрын
@@closeconscious Yes, there is compositionally technical Punk out there like Television, The Mars Volta, and all the insane guitar playing in the Midwest Emo genre, but for the most part, the performance part of Punk, playing the instruments, has more to do with the energy and less with the notes they are playing. As for Punk's other qualities, yes there are other aspects to it besides being raw, angry, fast, or minimalistic, but I'm not writing the definitive Punk Rock manifesto in the comments of a KZbin video.
