You really need to update this. New fans are gonna be missing out on Songs You Don't Know By Heart's take on neoclassical dark wave and Equal Strain on All Parts' fascinating triple genre fusion of breakbeat hardcore, power electronics and hypnagogic pop. You didn't even mention Buffett's love for the Paisley Underground scene and how it fed into his music!1!1!1!

Jeff Rosenstock spotted!!! 🫵 I love the video you did on him, too btw. He's honestly my favourite singer-songwriter at this point. He just has that everyman quality to him that makes music easy to relate to. (Also unrelated, but I love your hair)

Enjoying watching this in early January 2025 - revisiting (once again) how amazing 'Worry' is feels like it's making me feel genuinely excited about music and life on a wider level on a gloomy January evening.

22:00 I always thougt The Seer as something Lovecraftian... as... you walked in a forest, and saw something you shouldn't saw... something over your known, something magic in a Bad way, something that destroys your mind. 32:09 To be kind is so... that destroyed mind asking; what's being human? And only geting the worst unswers... as... a dead little god...

Treat it like a radio show, go into it and let it accompany you for as long as you want/need, and when you're done you can pause it and KZbin will save where you were. I've only heard it front to back 1 time, that's just not what it's meant for imo

Excellent list which I am, in fact going to be using as a suite of recommendations. In terms of personal year-end contenders for me that were not on here, two which come to mind immediately are bela's Noises and Cries, an entrancing, terrifying, truly sui generis mix of traditional Korean music, deconstructed club and death industrial of the Posh Isolation/Puce Mary school with some of the most ghoulish vocals I've heard in some time; and Heáfodbán's Blódwracu, a similarly idiosyncratic and haunting fusion of pagan anarchist neofolk, Natural Snow Buildings-esque drone-ambient and, most prominently, absolutely savage war metal. Been a good year for albums which confound reductive genre tags.

last year i was stuck in a snowstorm for 2 hours, waiting outside for a bus to pick me up from school. i had watched your swans video, so i decided to throw on the first album of the post rock trilogy (the name escapes me right now). while that album i found great, listening to to be kind changed my life, and i give you all the credit for introducing me to it. now, a year later, i’m listening to gao the arsonist based off of your recommendation, and i have not felt this amount of fear listening to music since that snow storm, and i’m safe at home. i’m a huge quadeca fan, and this album really hit where i wish fmty hit, where songs like what’s it to him and guess who hit on scrapyard. thanks, boundo, for making insightful essays about the coolest music ever made.
