Funny you should make these points because they're right on. We just fixed windows that were installed by a National Company by what they called their top installer. However, when a double hung is out of level and plumb and is pinched in the center it doesn't work so well. Sad thing is, it actually looks like a descent window. Oh yea, they paid that company way north of $1,200/window too. Homeowners pay attention to what this man is telling you because very few people in our business will share this information with the public.

love #4 the private window idea. On our new construction build I will now make sure I can compare the windows our contractor suggest to something else, I also want to make sure he is not getting a kick back from the window company on top of our fee we are paying him.

The problem is you're not going know what kind of installer you have until the work is done.

There are some ways to predict the outcome. You can look at a dealer's experience and their reviews online. You can also check the references and Drive by existing projects while they're being installed.

I think Pella makes good vinyl. This product is limited in options and sizes but may work for your project.

We live in the Caribbean and are kind of sold on the Windsor Classic (mostly due to your videos 😊). Would you say not seeing a window (window brand) in person is a mistake?

If it helps any that's the windows I picked up for my house build. I've seen them and they look great in person, but worth seeing them for yourself. I didn't like the in-glass dividing light much, but the one on the outside of the glass is really sharp so that's what we did on the front of the house. For the sides/back of the house we just went with picture windows. HOWEVER, you cannot put in a new order for vinyl at this time (afaik) because of the tornado. They supposedly started back production this Monday but I still haven't gotten a new promise date yet (should within the next few weeks.)

Would be nice if I could find somebody around Iron Mountain Michigan. We had one guy who was gonna charge us a lot a lot of money for labor we had a big job for them but they turned us down this down ask too many questions.

New question: what do you think of using a high quality sliding door as the windows for a sun room?

A door is going to cost more than a window. Usually you have to switch to a door when a window cannot be made in the size you need. You also have to remember that a door needs a deeper framing member in order to install it. Perhaps I'm not understanding your question.

What are your thoughts on having minimal opening windows and mostly fixed windows? We're about to build and we were thinking that we seldom open our windows, so, if my understanding is correct, a fixed window is cheaper than a double hung one, why install a more expensive window you'll never use. We're thinking only install opening windows that are required by code.

Did he really just use high Octane gas as an example on saving money on windows. Only wealthy people use high octane gas to fuel there expensive vehicles. Dude has probably never been poor a day in his life. Poor people need windows to stay warm as cheap as possible because it's not an investment. The poor don't have that option, we just need to survive another winter, hopefully a little warmer with our cheap gas, and POS car so we can eat lunch that day and get back home. There is no guarantee that we will be in the same home next month, let alone for 15 to 30 years. Why do the wealthy choose to be so out of touch with the poor? We serve the wealthy everyday. We do the jobs you don't want to do but still want to be served. Your the ones who pay the low wages. You see us everyday, day in and day out and still refuse to understand our plight in life. They think they know but they have no fkn idea.
