1:40 I feel like the reason we hear and see Afton gurgling is because he’s keeping blood from escaping his mouth. In case you don’t know: When a Springlock Failure happens, you don’t die from organ damage or blood loss; you die from drowning in your own goddamn blood. And I honestly think that’s why Afton is unable to talk most of the time, he’s trying swallow his blood so he can breathe better and survive a bit longer. i love aftons progression in this scene at first he try's to re-assert his control over the others by saying he's the one who made them what they are. then the spring locks activate and at first he's shocked and makes a bit of effort to disarm them but then knowing what awaits him decides to finish it off still knowing he's the one in control. such an iconic and well acted scene

I love this adaptation/version of William Afton better than in the games. Matthew did a great and good job at being the best actor here. He brought this character to life IMO. At first, he pretended to be so calm and intelligent to Mike until at the end of the movie where he revealed his true identity and personality, we know he's gonna become The Man Behind The Slaughter he once was. I even enjoyed his lines like "Symmetry my friend", "But I assure you", "How small you are", "I made you", and of course his catchphrase, "I always come back". I wish that he should have more appearances and/or screen time of "Steve Raglan" than being "William Afton" and "The Yellow Rabbit" I love the sound of Springbonnie being demonic and cartoony at the same time. He's less of a narcissistic coward here than the games. Then I love when he did the Scream reference of Stu.

This scene legit made me cry and scream at the same time, there’s so much that I love about it as a long time fan. When the children died and haunted the suits, it was almost like they were reborn, and couldn’t distinguish right from wrong anymore, so they latched onto the yellow rabbit as a sort of parental figure, in a way, not remembering what he did to them. Seeing as how the yellow rabbit was their only remaining friend as far as they knew, they imprinted on him, resulting in their murderous behaviors and loss of their identities, which Afton took full advantage of. But then, when this scene happens, Afton instantly switches gears with how he addresses them, since his friendly facade has now been peeled away. He berates them like an abuser would, attempting to lower their spirits and intimidate them, reiterating to them just how much power he held over them then, as well as now. And not a lot of people point this out, but you can literally see Freddy’s eyes lower as Afton berates them, showing that he did indeed get to them a bit. And the scream Freddy lets out is a cry of shame and sadness, realizing that the person who they thought was their friend was in reality a monster who was teaching them to do awful things that whole time. Even the very building collapses under this pain. Ah and I love that in this universe, Afton already knows how the souls have remained in the suits, so he knows he will indeed come back, just as he has all these years when checking on his “prized possessions”. Then he puts the helmet on to try and maintain the intimidating image of what killed him, just to salvage one last bit of power over them. And dude, his suit’s eyes lighting back up were a major goosebumps moment for me. That right there signified that Springtrap had been born. Holy hell, it’s all just so good. This is why as an aspiring writer, Scott is such a massive inspiration for me.

If you saw the movie, you'd see of the rage that filled Mike's eyes when William took credit for abducting and murdering his brother all those years ago and expressed his desire to kill Mike and finish the symmetry as he called it. The knife swipe definitely said of how Matthew played Stu Macher in Wes Craven's Scream all of those years ago. After more or less keeping Vanessa under his thumb for her entire life (which was why she couldn't directly tell him of what that place was really about), she made her big steps in opposing her father William by showing up to help out Mike, stand in front of her father with a pistol drawn and firing it when he called it a bluff (which resulted in her getting disarmed and strangled for her trouble), and even grabbing the wrist with the knife in hand when he tried to stop Abby (which got her stabbed, incapicated, and put into a coma). It was great having the key being Abby tell them the truth as they were lied to and manipulated for years and they trusted Abby since she had that bond. Ultimately there was no other way to get out alive.

Something this movie does that I really like that the games don’t do anymore is basically make William Afton just a person. A sick, depraved, evil person, but a person nonetheless. And that’s the scariest thing a serial killer can be. That’s what made William Afton such an effective villain in this movie. He’s introduced as some person Mike talks to about getting a job and then there’s his moment of realization. Everything he did was premeditated. And yet, we still don't have a motivation for why he does what he does. And that’s scary as all hell!

The one massive gripe that I have with the movie aside from the direction of tone that the movie decided to turn towards to is the missed opportunity in utilizing more of Matthew Lillard as William Afton. Throughout the film, we hear of Afton's background and how sadistic he was, but we don't get to see him that often. I counted only three scenes including Afton: The interview with Mike, his phone conversation with Mike, and the final 15 minutes of the movie. We don't see or hear much of Lillard in the film, and I think that the reveal of Springtrap being Afton would have been more shocking if Afton was the call guy throughout all five nights. Had Mike asked Afton on the phone what transpired within Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria that led to it's closure, and proceeded to get details of his crimes, that would have made more sense. Also, I think that having Afton try to help Mike evade the animatronics while at the same time controlling them to try and kill Mike would make the reveal that much more powerful, finally realizing that the person who has been trying to help save us over the phone is also the one who is trying to kill us
