Still depends on how the bike is ridden and how often the chain is serviced. I do not lubricate the chain with thick aerosol lubricants, but lubricate with a small amount every 300-400 km. gear oil 80W-90 and then I wipe the excess with a rag, so that it would be clean and everything would not fly to the rear wheel.

That’s exactly what I do, with he exception I also wipe it with a paraffin soaked rag if it looks dirty. My chain wears extremely slowly.

Agree on all the points mentioned, except the one where the chain is at some points tight and some hits the plastic. This doesn't always apply, sometimes the rear wheel is not true causing this.

I have 13,000mi on a 2006 F4i with oem chain and sprocket and was looking for a new chain kit but I am not sure I need one at this mileage. One thing gets me confused is the test with pulling the chain from the rear sprocket, I can make a little bit of space to see light between the chain and the sprocket bit I must pull the chain quite hard to make that space, isn't so easy like in the video. The rest of the kit is in good shape, sprockets look good with square shape at the top, chain is flexible without stiff links, I might get another 5000mi from this kit maybe.

I’m going to get a new chain as mine has all the bad you just covered in the video. I’m the third owner of the bike, no idea what’s been done before me except the Mickey Mouse wiring for the front signals with the extra bulbs. I’m guessing I should probably get new sprockets as well? How much of a pita is that to do especially when you’re not that mechanically inclined? I have an 08 sv650. Thanks for the video, it was clear, concise and informative.

I would recommend changing both sprockets with the new chain. It helps them wear evenly. It isn’t to much of a pain. If you can change a chain you can change sprockets too. I made a video on this process for you, linked below. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJi4Z5VmbLBgh9U

You can see a quarter of the tooth with a new chain. When you can see a half of the tooth, the chain is worn out. You can catch it early enough to get more life from the sprockets, but never more than 2 chains per sprocket set.

Best regards. The channel is great for all praise. I would like you to do research and video for bad vibrations in FZ6 s2 ... The masters are bad and have no knowledge. I read on the forums that these vibrations occur due to bad spark plug cables, more precisely spark plug cables. I have this problem and I can't solve it. The vibrations move at 4500 rpm, 6000rpm and later from the vibrations I can't see how much the mirror is shaking. Thanks in advance.
@Calvinm
@Calvinm 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm that does sound like a bad vibration! Usually vibrations are related to wheel balance or tire pressure. I'll look into it though.
@SlobaMusic
@SlobaMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Many forums write about this problem. It is very common. I can't use the rearview mirror over 130km / h, I can't see anything. There are terrible vibrations on the steering wheel, the steering wheel, the tank, and the arms and legs are tired. Unfortunately, no engine mechanic in my city has a clue how to solve the problem. The tires are ok, the balance is ok, the chain and sprockets are ok, the fork is ok, the weights on the steering wheel are ok.

Sloba Music, I also have some experience on bad vibrations on my bike which I almost sold it. In one of my desperate efforts to find the cause, I chanced upon a loose engine support nut below the crank case. I tightened it and the vibrations are gone. I would say it might be the cause of your problem, you can give it a try, hope it helps.

Ya, can’t really save a chain once it’s ticking. Besides, you don’t want your chain coming apart on the road. That can really damage your engine, plastics or swing arm.

Wait ... so the maximum distance from center to center must be 239 mm right ? then that distance can't be less than it or must be less than it ?
@Calvinm
@Calvinm 3 жыл бұрын
Ya the max distance from centre to centre is 239.3mm, it cannot be greater than that measurement. If you measure 239.3mm that means the chain has stretched about 1% which is the service limit for an O ring chain generally.

Actually I think this is something specific to FZ6 that it creates this uneven tension. I have been having this issue even on the freshly mounted chains just after a few thousand kilometers. Just remember to set the tension on the tight part of the chain. 1-1.5cm of difference I would not really sweat that much about. Better to have too loose chain than too tight one. Stiff links are pretty bad though and should prompt one to replace the chain ASAP. Also any missing o/x-rings - I had it happen on a brand new DID ZVMX after 7k km, even though the chain was properly maintained. The shop returned me the money under warranty, after having the chain inspected by the producer.
@laughingdog1125
@laughingdog1125 2 жыл бұрын
i thought you set the tension for the slackest part of the chain
@h4xi0rek
@h4xi0rek 2 жыл бұрын
@@laughingdog1125 nope, you set it for the tightest. Too much tension stresses the output shaft bearing as well as puts you at risk of snapping the chain. It also severely reduces its service life.

The longer I've ridden bikes and dealt with chains at work (simplex, duplex and triplex) the more I'm realising chains... Are a gigantic pain in the ass. I've recently installed an Oring chain on my bike that's way over rated for the size of my bike, and I'm hoping I don't have to mess around with it too much other than a bit of lube from time to time.

Clean, lube, and adjust the chain properly then assess whether it needs to be replaced or not. Everything he's doing here is with a properly adjusted chain. He can't adjust the slack out, it's just THAT badly worn.
