One of my favorite things about Chico is how friendly people are. It’s easy to make friends and before long you are constantly running into people you know.
@BrentSilberbauer Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It's big enough to have a lot to do, and small enough where you run into people you know constantly. Love the friendly community here in town!

My wife and I have been in Chico for five years now. You hit all of my same points, both pro and con, except that you didn't mention the potholes on so many of the smaller streets. It is annoying.

QUESTION: Does Chico benefit from the weather phenomenon in the evenings known as "the Delta breeze" that Sacramento gets? Thanks for this great (and honest) evaluation!

Not really. Chico tends to get stagnant heat at night during the hottest part of the year.

I always loved south chico. Old humboldt road was a great place to park and stargaze, as long as you could avoid occasional weirdos driving by looking for someone named “peanut.” Seriously. That happened several times to me in my 20’s up there while i was smoking a joint looking at stars. Who or what is peanut??

Yes. Of course. Homelessness is not that bad of an issue anymore. Fire insurance is normal if you’re not on the outskirts of town towards the east. Otherwise it’s fine.

No traffic in Chico? I guess it depends on where you live in Chico and what other town you're comparing Chico to. Compared to large cities, Chico is pretty good. Personal Pro and Con: Pro- They're continuing to expand and adding a lot more businesses, restaurants, homes, etc. (currently living in Meriam Park and enjoying the new developments on this side) Con- A lot of places do close fairly early. I'm from a bigger city so I'm used to businesses closing at midnight/after midnight. We're limited as to what we can do/where we can eat late at night. Other than that, Chico has really grown on me and I could definitely see myself living here long term IF they can get an airline to come back!! *crossing fingers*
@BrentSilberbauer Жыл бұрын
Excellent point. Meriam Park is a big addition. I’ve noticed even in bigger cities the 24 hour pharmacy and other late night restaurants are closing early. The city is corrupt. The roads are awful. The city imports homeless. The amazing parks are now dirty, dangerous and full of criminals. There is a gang problem. It was however great in the 90's.
@BrentSilberbauer Жыл бұрын
I think every California city is not as clean and safe as the 90’s. Chico was pretty rough in 2020, but we went from a 5-2 city council to a 1-6 city council. They immediately cleaned up the parks and downtown and currently I think it is very nice. But there was a rough spot when we had a terrible city council.
@Daron125 Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by 5-2?
@BrentSilberbauer Жыл бұрын
@@Daron125 it was 5-2 meaning the city council was a total of 7. 5 of them supported giving out needles to heroin attics in public parks, allowing people to camp anywhere they liked including water ways, supported “defund the police” measures which were popular at the time. The. The next election there was only one like that, and 6 who ran under a “safe Chico” banner. They immediately cleaned out the parks, there are no needle giveaways in parks now, and there is a massive city ran homeless shelter where folks have to go.

Chico is a very bad place......too many people want to keep it as a small town....ok.....and then life keeps evolving......People in Chico think they can stop progress......every modern city is evolving. The population is growing. People want Chico to become modern with the latest technologies, but they don't welcome industrial nor residential growth.. So sad that Chico is not going to progress
@jillwaggoner517710 күн бұрын
Why can't some places be like that? That is more my preference and is others too. I don't drive by choice, and to find a walkable city is fantastic! I like the relational aspect Brent noted in another vid - people keep running into each other, evoking that small town feeling. Fewer cars, more conversation! Tech has its limits. Nature rules.
