When I came of age I left Southern California and came running back to Chico! I love calling this place home! We have our problems, but it’s hard to imagine not being a part of this amazing community!

I lived in Chico 1982 to 87. Moved there for school, then crashed and burned a year and a half in ( listen when they tell you double majoring in CS and EE is a hard road to walk.) But I loved the town, part times jobs were easy to find and the rent outside the student zone was cheap, so I stuck around.

That’s awesome!! Glad you enjoyed Chico enough to stick around :)

Chico CS major from 82 to 86. Did Masters work from 88-92 or so with stints working jobs in the Bay. Rode a pedicab from 87-92. Chico still has a special place in my heart, even though I haven't lived there in 30 years.

🚨Butte County: Continues to Lead California in Child Abuse🚨 Butte County, CA has been grappling with high rates of child abuse for several years. In 2013, the county had a rate of 0.9 cases per 100,000 residents. By 2017, this rate had significantly increased to 33.6 cases per 100,000 residents. This alarming trend has continued, with the rate of substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect reaching 9.2 per 1,000 children in 2020, well above the California state average of 6.8 per 1,000 children. 📈 📊 Reports from the Center for Youth Wellness indicate that Butte County has notably higher childhood maltreatment rates than California overall. The county has higher rates of neglect and abuse allegations (74.0 vs. 54.3 per 1,000 children), substantiations (9.9 vs. 7.7), and entries into protective care (6.5 vs. 3.1). From 2008 to 2013, 76.5% of Butte County residents reported having one or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), the highest rate of all California counties and significantly higher than the state average of 61.7%. Additionally, nearly twice the percentage of Butte County residents reported having four or more ACEs compared to the state average (30.3% vs. 15.9%). 📉 Similarly, results from the 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) demonstrated that 76.5% of Butte County respondents had one or more ACEs, considerably higher than the most recent data for statewide respondents (65.5%). Butte County respondents had higher rates across all ACEs categories, with the most frequent being substance use disorder 💊 by a household member (37.8% vs. 26.1%), parental separation or divorce (37.3% vs. 26.7%), emotional or verbal abuse (35.2% vs. 34.9%), a household member with a mental disorder (28.4% vs. 15.0%) and witnessing domestic violence (19.3% vs. 17.5%).

SHUBERTS - Chico, mint chip! I’ve been going up to Chico to see friends for 30 years, and that hands-down is the best quality ice cream for the price I’ve ever had! Love it.

My hometown!!! I do miss it. I left in 2008 for Arizona and only been back twice, once for custody court and one visit when my father passed in 2010. I went to Parkview elementary, Chico High and then Fairview. I was troubled 😂 . I miss fishing deer creek and the Sac and feather river! My grandmother use to be neighbors with the mayor over by Citrus elementary. I miss the trees. Now I'm out in San Tan Valley AZ. I'm glad I left but it was such a big chapter in my life. I left for the middle East the same week 911 happened then return for a few short years and left again. This town is both a blessing and a curse depending on what you make of it. Subbed, thanks for sharing!!! You look really familiar too!!!

I wish it was as awesome as you make it seem... Moved to chico in 2017 for a job from Texas and I miss home everyday. Everyone here is so angry! No southern hospitality, or any hospitality for that matter. Everyone's gone crazy with the whole, you are what you pretend to be going against facts and biology. Oh, and then you've got homeless everywhere you look with no help on the horizon! Horrible, horrible place. My kids Jr high school, chico Jr, allowed and encouraged my daughter to change her gender and identity without even one phone call. People worry more about "feelings" and mental health over honest hard work ethic and family values! I really, really miss home. But what Chico does have going for it is how ridiculous they pay people to work. No matter the job, you get paid very well here. Whether you deserve it or not!

When paradise burned in 2018 many moved to Chico to live in parking lots at first and then well, pg&e continued to burn the housing market in N CA and all over the state and many have had no where to go. Chico is warmer than foothill communities in winter.

You would have loved Chico back in the 80s-90s. People were nicer, jobs were better, rent was reasonable, crime was small.

"family values" Worry about yourself my guy. People have a right to worry about their mental state, especially after the Camp Fire.
