Andersen quoted me $106k to replace 27 windows. But if I act today, I could get them for the discounted price of $76k. My response "get out"

I just recently had my windows replaced by Renewal by Andersen. The window quality may be good (time will tell) but as with all products, it's the quality of the installation and the attention to detail of the installers that can make the outcome great or just so-so. I got a so-so. The crew was 5 Spanish speaking men which was a concern as they obviously ran into a problem with installation of the bow window but, since I don't understand Spanish, no clue what the issue is. The 5 double-hung windows were installed in 5 hours the previous day but the bow took 4 hours the next day. With full frame installation, very few of the mitered corners of the casings were without gaps and the nail pinner left additional dings in the wood that rules out staining as I'll now have to fill, sand, and paint the casings. The bow extends further out from the brick than the original and nothing covers/seals the bare wood underneath and there is foam insulation squeeze out between the brick and the bottom of the bow. Again, it's not all about the quality of the product.

Makes sense but you make it sound easy. How many manufactures produce cars? No where near as many as the number of window manufactures and all their different lines or series.. Why? Because there's allot of money that's on the table from folks that don't have the time to compare and end up with a subpar product.

Only buy windows from an established brand with a stellar reputation who will be there to service them decades later. My twelve year-old vinyl windows with a lifetime warrantee were made by a company that was bought by another company who no longer makes parts for it.

All depends on what brand and style of window you get quoted for. Vinyl will come in around 1000 dollars an opening installed. Fiberglass will be more like 1500-1800 average each, and wood windows would come in at the highest at 2000-2500 per opening. Also, all about the type of glass and warranty received with these windows, and obviously who is installing the windows for you.

I can understand where you are coming from, but also think of their wood window lines that are not part of the "Renewal" line, they are priced in such a way that makes sense for the materials, glass and hardware used. I always hear when we compete against their quote, that we are a third of their price in most cases. They have to pay for their marketing somehow I suppose. Good products though.

Craziest Andersen quote I’ve ever seen was $20k for 3 double pane vinyl windows, they were fairly big but I was able to give the same client 4 triple pane windows for $12k. I’ve only been in the window sales field for a brief time but I can’t understand how Andersen is making ANY sales with quotes like that. The 20k figure was a discounted price too!

Years ago I got a 12 ft wide double slider wooden Anderson glass doors. I thought that was by far the best window in the house. The outside is covered by a plastic coating of some sort. Well, they use pine wood. They could have used balsa wood, but in an upgrade, went with pine. It rains 2 miles from here, the pine rots. The outside where the plastic coating is cracked, water gets in and rots it. On the inside, condensation from the window drips off the glass down to the pine and rots it. Worst window ever.

What about in smaller basement type hopper windows? I'm looking to replace these myself and trying to get a decent window. There are some available at the big box stores, but they don't really seem super high quality. Will window dealers be able to provide a quality small basement window by like Pella/Andersen, etc.? Or does it not matter so much with these smaller windows.

Im looking to replace original windows and sliding patio door in my 1980s condo since they have been failed for 15 years. the windows are double hung aprx. 60x40 and 60x20 inch. The door is big at 110x80 iish 3 pane on third floor condo. Was qouted 8000 for anderson door and silver line windows. Was also qouted 6200 for Okna brand door and windows from a diffirent contractor. Im 43 and have no intention of moving anytime soon, but want a successful stress free outcome that will give me no drama. Both places have great install reviews. I never heard of Okna and the reviews are terrible and excellent but I can say the same about Anderson and Silver line

I have yet to hear of Okna Windows myself. You are correct though, you may see both great and bad reviews for both manufacturers...but if you can visit a showroom to see the windows and doors, and if the company to install them for you have great reviews, than I would feel much better about hiring them for my project. Take your time as well, try not to rush something until you feel all of your concerns have been alleviated.

@@stevesanzari7294 Pella makes a wide range of windows. From builders grade to high end wood /vinyl or wood / aluminum., Most people purchase based off the name and buy the cheaper builders grade and at that point you're just paying for the name and the reputation of their higher end windows just like other well known window companies. Now I have Pella and they work great, Best windows I've seen or worked on. The quality of the materials are top notch, They used stainless steel rollers on their sliders, quality spacers between the pians of glass with desiccant inside of the spacers. the crank mechanism work flawlessly and made of quality parts. But I did pay the higher price, Not as high as an ordinary person because I'm well known in the window industry in my area, I've worked in the window industry for multiple manufactures, from actually building windows, instillation, and warranty, And no I've never worked for Pella, not that they didn't try to higher me, Now I've had my Pella's for over 15 years and they still work like the day I installed them. Here's a little tip All your windows don't need low-e, only those that get direct sunlight The windows on your north facing side will be fine with argon filled gas. And your comment does not help, because you didn't explain what issues you are having with the windows, Any brand window can have issues, And most come down to not being installed properly, they must be perfectly square . not even a 1/32 on an inch off, This issue alone will cause the window to not seal tight or make them not operate as they designed to.

Both Western Windows and La Cantina are beautiful windows, and very strong. It is not unheard of to have those types of windows costing a couple thousand dollars each, also depending on size, thickness of glass, and obviously the inherent need for "tempered" glass with the size most of those windows are. I would get a couple other quotes to see how they line up with the original quote provided.

They all have their issues. The brand that has the best services is the brand to go with. All vinyl is bad overall that’s is my experience. I have replaced the glass 5 times with vinyl. They just cannot handle the heat in the real world. Evidence speaks for itself so stay away from Vinyl if you want a window to be efficient and operate well. Out of Marvin, Anderson, and Pella we have the best luck with Pella service. They are really good on our end. Marvin does not have any service and Anderson is difficult.
