Defiantly the best MazdaSpeed videos on KZbin. Very well produced and edited, as well as detailed explanation and footage of things the forums don't tell you.

Randy, if the speed was as popular a platform as the wrx, you would have a million subs. Never stop uploading brother.

I wish I had the budget for a Gen 1. I wanted to do a series where I would do the same mods to both and show the differences. Once I win the lottery, I will make it happen! 😆

Thanks for this. Definitely needs to have suspension under load for re-assembly, although removal of the original sway bar was possible with car just on jack stands.

When the weather warms up that is one of the videos that is going to be made. It is a suggestion that I hear a lot and I haven't done a review video in awhile.

I did the front and rear JBR setup. Much better, soft setting up front middle in the back. The front installation was difficult following any of the instructions that the supplier of sway bars offer. After dropping the sub frame I found it didn't move down far enough to get the old bar out. The steering rack was being pulled from the body, which I really didn't like, so I loosened the 4 bolts that held it to the sub frame as well. That allowed the sub frame to drop much further and made the job WAY more easy, so I highly recommend loosening the steering rack bolts as it takes 5 minutes and then everything drops out and slips in without any struggle. Also, it doesn't stress the steering shaft and firewall rubber seal.

I have been eyeing the front and it looks like a lot of work. I will probably get around to that one in the upcoming summer, hopefully with access to a lift!
@CHUDHUCKER6 жыл бұрын
@@FiveFiveGarage A lift would make it much easier for sure. I pretty much wedged my chest under the sub frame because I couldn't get my car any higher. Take shallow breathes. Made moving around difficult, also after some time being wedged a little claustrophobic. It was worth it though, the car turns in very nicely now. You can feel more road imperfections and sends them to the steering wheel where you have to pay attention, however when power over steer takes place you know immediately.
@FiveFiveGarage6 жыл бұрын
Can totally understand. I lowered the car some, and now it is a tight fit to slide under. But it is good to hear that turn in is improved. Ever since I added the coilovers I have become suspension obsessive with this car!

Good point. Thankfully car is up for winter, as there is another project I am working on that required downtime. No hints, LOL

Unfortunately this sway bar is out of stock. What do you think about installing 27 mm sway bar heavy duty ? Will it work?

It will. That is the size that Whiteline uses for their rear bar.

Would your setup benefit from a STR? Like the tanabe STR? Or would that be overkill?
@FiveFiveGarage3 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't. From the time I have spent with it during autocross and track days, it some help during corner entry to get it to rotate. Swapping the rear bar for an adjustable is easier than the front (plus the front bar actually does a great job with better endlinks) and I want to dial in the rear before I go adding anything else, so I am not chasing my tail on the setup.

I have adjustable links and cobb sway bar. Should I have my link a bit longer than stock since I’m running a bit low? Thanks for the video by the way! Keep it up!
@FiveFiveGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Set the preload on one side so that the bar doesn't have any tension on it. Then match the other side. I should do a video on it...

Any plans on doing a video for the front sway bar and end links?
@FiveFiveGarage5 жыл бұрын
I do, but it will probably be sometime during the summer. I want to replace my end links in the front and I have seen a front bar installed and it takes a bit of work, so I hope I can find somewhere to use a lift for that one.

@@FiveFiveGarage Awesome! Yeah I've been having trouble finding a good walk through video. The instructions I've seen talk about dropping the subframe, which seems like a lot of work. Anyways, love your vids! You always have a ton of great suggestions, advice, and your camera work is excellent!
@FiveFiveGarage5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! All the instructions I have seen talk about dropping the subframe as well, I have read about being able to install it with the subframe still in the car, but that seems like a really tight fit with all the components in the way. Hopefully I can get access to a lift this spring! 👍

Why not the whiteline end links for the rear?
@FiveFiveGarage5 жыл бұрын
At the time, budget. A set of Whiteline end links is ~ $125-ish, I got the Moog's for $65 shipped. The Moog's have been great, I keep them greased and I haven't had any issues. I am thinking of trying a set of the Whiteline end links and see how they compare, but I have been really pleased with the Moog setup.

Was there a noticeable difference after adding the jbr swaybar?
@FiveFiveGarage4 жыл бұрын
Car rotates far easier, it starts turning with less steering input. Dialing out some of the factory understeer helps the car respond to direction changes faster.
@Xlorntabis4 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy, how are the Moog endlinks holding up for you?
@FiveFiveGarage4 жыл бұрын
They are holding up great no issues! Just make sure they have grease and they are good to go.

@@FiveFiveGarage One last question! I just got my corksport rear sway bar and am going to install it this weekend. Where did you end up on your stiffness setting with the JBR? And did you feel the need for a front sway bar eventually or did it get you were you wanted for autocrossing? Thank you for all your vids!! P.S. Got my corksport HPFP internals done this past weekend using your guide primarily--such a relief to get that over with. Working with DramaTune now on a tune, yay =D
@FiveFiveGarage4 жыл бұрын
I am actually running it at full stiff right now, it really helps the rear rotate. It got me closer, but I had to go a step further and add adjustable camber and toe arms. Most of the events were cancelled for 2020 so I didn't get a chance to give the new setup a workout, but I am hoping that 2021 I can actually get a track day in. The stock front sway bar is fine for what I am doing right now, I was having more of a problem with the rear of the car than I was with the front. Front bar is a personal preference, personally I don't think I will replace it unless I decide to go full-on track toy with the Speed.

Is it necessary to have adjustable endlinks?
@FiveFiveGarage5 жыл бұрын
Not really if you are at stock ride height, things get wonky when you add a set of coilovers and are lowered, it changes the suspension geometry and the bar gets preloaded (there should be little to no load on the bar at rest). That preload can cause some driveability issues and the adjustable end links help fix the problem.
@jblairhoward5 жыл бұрын
Five Five Garage Gotcha. I’m lowered so I’ll have to go with adjustable. Having the bar parallel to the ground equals no preload right?
@FiveFiveGarage5 жыл бұрын
Right. Install the bar and install one end link and adjust it until the bar is flat, that will be your 0 preload. Then install the other end link to match. Make sure you do this with the suspension loaded, I recommend ramps.
