Yup. Not just a mistake, but one of the most massive NFL backfires ever. The dude the Steelers did draft went out drinking and driving and got himself paralyzed after only playing six games. Despite that, the decaying remnants of the '70s dynasty team made it to the AFC Championship, only to get torched by... Dan Marino.

As an Eagles fan... I would've picked hiring Chip Kelly rather than retaining TO, since, well, he did get us to a Super Bowl, where we hadn't been in over 20 years. Kelly gave us like... one half of one good season, and then wanted to be the GM, and immediately got rid of all of our best players who, on paper, fit his system best. He's all about speed, right? So why the hell did you get rid of Jackson, Maclin and freaking McCoy? Also, the Snatch reference got me good. Well played, sir.

Regarding the Pisarcik fumble: I gullibly perpetuated the mockery of Pisarcik as having done the stupidest thing of all time. But, right now, read any article about what happened - try wikipedia Miracle At The Meadowlands - and it will shock you. There you will see that the offensive coordinator ordered the play (partially to protect the QB, as in those days they could be tackled just like a football player); and everyone in the huddle HATED the call, including Larry Csonka, who "told Pisarcik he would not take the ball if he went through with it." Indeed, rather than accept the handoff, it bounced off Csonka's hip. ALSO the center did not snap on the count. *The center snapped early* because the clock was running down. FYI, offensive coordinator Gibson was fired the next morning, and never worked another day of football in his life. For 30 years, he refused to talk about it. But even Gibson (though dead now) deserves leniency. Before that play, the QB downed the ball, but perennially violent Philadelphia crashed through instead of treating it as a kneel down (which is dirty play, no question about it - players get punched out for doing that). Gibson reasoned that telling the QB to just down the ball again might well result in injury (since Philadelphia was unhesitant to play dirty), and inevitably the insulted offensive line would have retaliated with their fists, giving a penalty, quite possibly blowing the victory. So there was some reasonable basis for Gibson making what is regarded as the worst play call in all of history - worst, that is, until Russell Wilson did not understand how to throw a ball away from coverage, and Atlanta for its breathtakingly unfathomable mental retardation. Like most outlandish condemnations, there's more to the story. Too bad Pisarcik has to wear "WOAT" when he was forced to run that play. He would have been cut from the team had he disobeyed the coach - as he was explicitly warned the week before. For years I've mocked Pisarcik as the all time putz - but in all honesty, I have to now admit that I was unfair.

As a Washington fan, I can think of 2 worse decisions: 1) Not letting RG3 sit the whole 2013 season. We watched his leg flip like an Astro Jax the previous season. We should let him sit out to fully recover because it was already stated no matter what the back ups do, it'll be his team. Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong! Let's start him while his knee is still more tender than an ultra rare steak. Sure he was a prima donna, but it was better than Rex Grossman. 2) Not giving Kirk Cousins a multi-year contract back when he was worth $19M a year. We messed up the RG3 situation. No worries. We got Kirk Cousins. He's not a super star, but he's good enough to fill in the gap at a cheap enough price so we can use the saving to build up the rest of the team. But you know what's more fun than signing a decent long term QB for cheap? Pulling a franchise tag-a-thon. Kirk, we know you're under a lot of pressure out in Minnesota. But you can rest assured knowing that your children and grandchildren's college, first car, and first house have all been financed thanks to the Washington Redskins' inability to do something smart.

@JShaggy5 жыл бұрын
Well, it was more than just that. The bitterness had existed ever since Memphis got passed over by the NFL back in the early 90s when the city was seeking to land an expansion team. Long story short, the proposed team name (Hound Dogs) and improvements to the Liberty Bowl were not enough to convince the league to come there as they chose Charlotte and Jacksonville in the end. Bud Adams moving the then-Oilers from Houston to Nashville was always the plan, with Memphis serving as their temporary home for two years until their brand new stadium was completed. Many Memphians (Not Memphisians) didn't like the idea of being a placeholder for a team that chose another city over them, so a lot of people just didn't show up for the games at all. Because of that, the Oilers wound up cutting their stay short, leaving a year earlier than intended.
