Honestly I'd say they are the best apartment birds you could ever own. My favorite thing my Pionus does is runs under my bed and gets just out of my reach and says, "come on" over and over. The only negative my thing mine does is she will puke on my big toe if I'm not watching. I feel like she thinks it's her baby.

I’m thinking my girl is actually a boy! Got her sexed but she’s quite the talker and not gonna lie, not the quietest lol I love how she just wants to hang out, most affection i can give her is helping with her pin feathers. She’s shy with new people for sure and that’s when she’ll let you know how she’s feeling. But after years of research and waiting, I couldn’t have made a better choice of first bird! Love my girl
@aepigeons93753 жыл бұрын
I've had a white cap named Gina for about ten years now, and I adore her - though she's definitely a one-person bird. She likes hanging out with me, and she actually really likes scritches, and often decides to groom the back of my head. Admittedly, she's at best aloof with almost everyone else though. She accepts my dad if need be, but despite my mother's best efforts, she's never warmed up to my mother. Gina sees her as competition for my attention I think, and she tries to take out the competition. Also really hated my poor aunt on sight, who I guess looks too much like my mother for Gina's liking. Pionus parrots also have this quirk where they make wheezing noises when they're excited or agitated, and it scares the ever-loving Hell out of you at first because it sounds like they're having an asthma attack or something. At my parents' place, she'll make occasional contact calls with the birds in the living room. She stays in my room when I visit, because the birds in the living room are dusty species and pionus parrots don't deal very well with dust. She also went through a phase where she'd wake me up in the morning by repeatedly flinging a metal toy against the side of her cage until I got up. Apart from that though, she's very quiet; she'd be fine in an apartment. She speaks a little bit, but as you say, her voice isn't very clear. Like many birds, one of her favourite games is the 'clam right up and don't make so much as a single peep, so that your person looks like an idiot after someone asks if you can talk and your person says yes' game. I travel a lot by car, and she's a great traveller; I never have to struggle to convince her to get into the travel cage. She does have a habit of killing time in the car by sharpening her claws, which isn't my favourite of her hobbies... This might be more of a Gina thing than a pionus thing, but even by parrot standards, she's extremely suspicious of any new foods. Took me a full year to get her to try an almond, and another year to try a piece of walnut. She surprised me by finally trying pasta/fruit/vegetables after like EIGHT YEARS! For years, she'd lean away from any new food I tried to give her, and she'd try to fool me into thinking she'd had a bite by making exaggerated chewing motions.

If people were able to rent parrots for six months to see if they wanted to spend 50 years with them, 90% would end up with a nice species like this. Of course, that wouldn't be ethical to rent parrots, but it would probably result in fewer parrots being abandoned. The novelty of any exotic pet wears off very quickly. Good video!

I love your reviews. Been wanting a pet bird for a long time. I love birds and use to volunteer at a rescue center just so I could be around the owls and falcons. As a kid I had those cute little budgie birds and loved them cause I could have a whole flock of them without it being super loud, too much maintenance, and I could leave them alone all day since they had each other. Now I’m looking into a bigger bird. These reviews are helping me sort it out before I decide on a 30+ year relationship with one of these amazing animals and I’m leaning a lot on this breed
