That's some useful information I needed. Thanks for another awesome video.

It looks good and if your going to cover it, but some JB Weld on the back for extra support.

The JB Weld for some reason is not sticking to that particular piece of aluminum. I tried doing the repair with a piece of sheet steel and JB Weld and it just popped right off

Jeff, curious if you can use a heat sink to finish the edges off? Using a lightly damp rag wrap a large portion of the area with the damp rag then focus your heat on the unfinished edge filling as required. Assuming it works, you could then move the heat sink to the other side finishing off the other edge. I used this a million times when soldering pipe. And if it doesn’t work you’ll then know to not take advice from me; either way we’ll all learn something 😁

I don't think that's going to work only because of what happens it seems as though the product tends to all go fluid whenever you are working it

Thanks for informative video. Never seen that type of repair.

If you take a piece of angle and use it as a backing plate to clamp to you can creatively affix your vice grips so that the entire crack is exposed and they wont sag when you heat the aluminum. Also instead of HF swing by a welding supply store and get a smaller diameter rod. HF usually only has one size but the welding supply store almost always has thinner rods that make heating and spreading the material go much faster. Also look around and either make or buy a mall wooden spatula that you can soak in water to help smooth/move the metal much like they do with the body lead between the roofline and the quarter on older cars like you were mentioning. Not sure if the rods you have have a flux core but just like lead based solder if they dont flux will help the repair metal flow into the cracks just like plumbers use flux on piping to flow the solder into the joint.

After doing the center section leave one clamp on and do that end then reclamp and do the other end.

Would using a set of wet rags on the outside of the welded area help with some of the wrapping?
@AutoRestoMod2 ай бұрын
No unfortunately the temperatures are too high for that

I wonder if that bigger torch would have worked better with a sharper flame.
@jlawlar2 ай бұрын
that's because those rods are mostly lead and zinc
