Leah, good video. I'd like to offer a bit more information, but first my credential: I spent more than 30 years cleaning sewers and drains. I've cleared untold numbers of plugged toilets. That said, I offer the following: The condition you speak of is called "lazy flush". There are two possible reasons for this: first is clogged jets as you talk about here. The other is a partial obstruction in the waste bend. It's easy to tell which is the actual problem, but first, your video doesn't show a really good lazy flush. You might see the water raise to the rim and swirl slowly around and then slowly drain out. The toilet doesn't overflow, but it looks like it is going to. Here's an easy way to test this. Get a bucket of water and pour it down the bowl. The toilet should take a heavy flow from the bucket. If the water is lazy, then your toilet is partially plugged and it's time for a toilet auger. If the water flows out quickly, then your jets are plugged. Several years ago, before I retired, I came across a lazy flush toilet that was hand painted around the base. I'd never seen one of these. It was from Kohler's "Artisan" line (I think that was the name). The bathtub and two sinks were all painted as a matching set. The customer paid more than $2000 for just the toilet back around 1990. The toilet could not be replaced and it had lazy flush sydrome. I called Kohler for advice as I could not risk damaging the toilet. Their advice was the same yours except that they recommended another product besides vinegar but either one can remove the calcium buildup. Believe it or not, this was the first time in all my years I had ever heard of this method. I hope this helps your viewers determine the problem and then fix it. It's not that difficult. Kudos again on another great video.

In this house 10yrs and never satisfied w/ flush of downstairs toilet. Had it off anyway to have water meter changed which was behind it. This trick worked so well, I couldn't stop flushing it to watch my success, then of course had to christen it (too much information!) To be sure all sediment was gone, also scrubbed each outlet hole with some fine steel wool with the vinegar that had drained into the bowl after removing tape. Amazing what you see placing a mirror in there! Thanks Jane. Love your channel. New sub here after watching numerous episodes. You're doing a fab job!

I followed your advice, and my 2 toilets are working like new again! I've had 6 different plumbers, over the years, come into my home and tell me the problem with my toilets were caused by mineral accumulation, and that the only solution was to replace the toilet. NO ONE told me I could dissolve the minerals, until you. I'm happy to have saved thousands of dollars that the plumbers wanted. Instead I did the work myself, and spent about $10 on white vinegar. I'm happy my old toilets are staying out of land fill also. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Great stuff!!! I'm 68 years old and this the 2nd time that I've been "toilet trained". So easy to overlook those jet holes, and even if you regularly use a toilet bowl cleaner formulated for minerals, it only cleans the surface openings, and does not addresses the build up inside of the jet holes when you have hard water.

Leah, God bless you for eternity. After a few mediocre experts who gave me a few absurdities about fixing the slow toilet, I decided to do my own research to discover the easiest and most common sensical remedy and found you. Wow, what a genius and simple solution no 'experts' were capable enough to look at. I did not use vinegar and duct tape, but a small pick and a hammer to gently tap through the clogged jets and rotated it to unclog the 25 jets below the rim. Now, the toilet flushes beautifully as I have never seen before. I am very grateful to you.

Great video, Leah. Thanks for also mentioning the siphon jet at the bottom of the bowl. I had problems while you were on hiatus where the bowl would fill and swirl but waste wasn’t really being pushed down the trap. Someone suggested taking a long toothbrush handle or pocket screwdriver and breaking up any lime and calcium deposits blocking the siphon jet hole. Sure enough, after chipping away at an almost total obstruction and removing almost a pound of scale blocking the hole and up inside it, the toilet flushed faster and more powerful than it ever had in almost 40 years without doing the 5 minute swirl and no payoff.

As a 40-something year old woman I'm so happy to see you doing this and these videos. I think there's a self satisfaction/fulfillment to be able to say 'I got this'. I have to say, looking back at my childhood, there's so much my father taught me I never appreciated until I was one my own. I was an only child of a dad who is a Mr. Fix it, and as his 'helper' he taught me so much when it came to home repairs. I was the kid on the block who knew how to use table saws and drill presses, knew what each tool was and what they were used for etc. I've rarely required hiring help over the years unless it was a really big job (I've even done my own bathroom remodel, wood floor replacement, etc). He didn't just teach me how to fix stuff, but how to be self sufficient. While I love my husband very much, he is the complete opposite when it comes to fixing things...it's 100% my job in the house and I'm fine with it. I've done my best to pass this stuff on to my son.

Not sure if you figure it out yet, but most times I just adjust the "flapper" chain in the tank. Adjust it with the clip a notch or two and see if that helps!
