Fix Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac Cruise Control Issues with Brake Lamp Switch Chevrolet Tahoe Yukon

Replacing a brake lamp switch on an Escalade to repair Cruise Control. Cruise control button on steering wheel lights up, but cruise control on dashboard doesn't not light up when set button depressed while driving.
Replacing this part takes about 15 minutes and requires a 10mm socket wrench.
This should be similar for all cars, but the Escalade shares a lot with a Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, Denali, GMC Yukon XL, and several other GM vehicles.

This fixed my 07 Escalade. I accidentally installed the switch upside down, which fit perfect, but ultimately has brake lights on all the time, no working Cruise Control and Stabilitrak warnings. Then I reversed it and now the warnings went away, the brake lights only turn on when I hit them and the Stabilitrak warnings went away. Bought my part for about $25. Fantastic helpful video!

Just wanted to say a BIG thank you to you Omar. My cruise control stopped engaging on my 2010 Escalade about two weeks ago. I was digging around on-line trying to see potential fixes and came across your "how to fix" video. Decided to give it a try. Ordered the exact same AC Delco part number that you used for my vehicle. Took a while to get the bolt off, due to the retaining clip being so difficult to release. Rest of the part and assembly came off rather easy. It was also rather easy to put the new piece on, except for the damn retaining clip once again causing me a pain in the ass to thread the bolt through to catch on the threads on the brake pedal. Finally caught some threads, and tightened it all up and plugged the electronic connection back on. Took it out on the road, BOOM, Cruise Control engaging immediately when activated!!! Total cost of the replacement part....$18.31 at O'Reily's Auto Part Store around the corner from the house and it took about an hour and a half to take apart and put back together (most of the time wasted on the retaining clip issue). They ordered the replacement part from their warehouse and it was in there store in about 4 hours. I called the Cadillac dealership near me to get a "quote" for CC not working, they said they would have to see it in the shop, but in general the cost is usually around $450-500! What a joke, thanks again sir for the very helpful video, much appreciate!!!

Awesome video! This was exactly problem I had on my 2011 Escalade. My cruise control was working only intermittently. $23 for part at local parts store was in stock. Same part number as per your video. Only took me 20 minutes to swap out. You might have mentioned that steel retainer clips has retainer slot that fits in groove, just push it up about a half hole diameter and it pops right off. Reverse to put it back on, place on and slide down half hole to lock it back into place. No reason to bend, pry, or force it off. Test drove Escalade and all works perfect again! Thank you.

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. I purchased my 2010 Escalade in 2015 and the cruise control never worked. I never looked into fixing it until now that I will be driving to Denver in the near future. The dealer here in Orange County wanted like $200+ just to diagnose it. I called 2 Pep Boys and got estimates for $175 and $155 so I went with the $155. Seems a very easy fix but I like to leave the work to the exerts. My cruise control works now. Thanks again!!!

F.y.i on the Escalade the brake switch also disengages your torque converter everytime you push your brakes. So if your brake switch is bad. You could be burning up your transmission as well. It's like pulling up to a stop light in a manual transmission and not pushing the clutch in ! I just got done paying 3k for a used transmission in my Escalade because of a bad brake switch.

Thanks so much bro! I just bought my 2007 Cadillac Escalade Esv a month ago and the next day I tried to use my cruise control and realized then that it didn't work or engage. I did a Google search and found your video. So today I went to auto zone, they didn't have oem in stock which was cheaper but sold me their Duralast one for $26.99, which they said theirs had a lifetime warranty replacement on it, which that's good if it ever goes out again I can get free replacement but, I installed it right in the parking and it worked!! I got Cruise control now like it should be :) so happy that it was such a easy fix.

I'll do that which I've been trying to get my trailer wiring now so I I can hook up my led back stick on lights, seems like it's not getting power but I see two grounds that are close by underneath that are super rusty and coats within nothing but rust I was going to sand it down then to see if it works after that.. Sounds like one of the servo motors have gone bad. They are located on the bottom of the seat. Either they have gone bad or a cable has been frayed. Could also be a bad switch. I had to troubleshoot something similar on my dads M3 kzbin.info/www/bejne/an_QpIyegdCbobs

Could this also be an issue if my brake laughs are not turning off when I turn off the lights and switch off the ignition? I think that's what has been running down my battery. I had the battery and alternator checked and both are fine

For the amount of money it cost and little time to replace, I would replace it just to rule that out. I believe it’s around $15. Use the link in the description to buy from Amazon. It’s the one I used.

This fixed my cruise control issue and was super easy to change! I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado and the indicator is telling me to "Service Brakes Soon", however both front and rear brake pads were replaced recently. My mechanic shop is also puzzled. Any suggestions?

Have they reset the indicator light? If they have and it’s still coming back then you may have a bad brake wear sensor. The brake wear sensors are cheap enough to replace. Also make sure connector pins on the harness are not bent. Sometimes people will connect the sensor and not notice that the connector pins are bent.

Never heard of being able to recalibrate. Seems like it’s a very common issue though. I never had any issues again after replacing the switch.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2013 ext, all the issues that everyone else has, no cruise control, traction control light, brake light, and I have an extra brake switch from my 07 esv. I went to change it on the 13 and there is no switch. Went back to the 07 and saw it, but it's not there on 13 and the lights on dash just came on yesterday. Sounds like a brake controller switch. If it’s not in that position as a 2008 , it may be in another place.

Try unplugging the brake switch by brake pedal as shown in this video and see if they shut off, if they do, it's the switch if they're still on, you may have a short somewhere.

What else does the brake lamp switch does ?

The brake light switch serves two major functions. First, it turns on the brake lights when a driver presses the brake pedal. Second, it sends the signal to the vehicle computer that brakes are applied. This can be used for push to start etc. In order to start some cars you have to depress the brake pedal before turning the key. This switch is what tell the computer that you have applied the brakes. When you use cruise control the computer disengages the cruise control when you press the brake, so if it’s faulty the computer does not allow for the use of cruise control.

You mean the rear lights aren’t on when the car is just idling? If that’s the case it sounds like it’s just a relay in your fuse box.

TheNorcoGuy85 have you checked the brake fluid level? Sometimes if it’s low it will trigger those lights. If it’s not that you may have a bad ground. Sometimes they ground cables will develop rust and will need to be cleaned. On te Escalade there is on on or near the firewall on the drivers side.
