man cine D makes a huge difference on the histogram, and iDynamic does too. as long as you're custom grading the footage afterwards, I guess it doesn't matter the original accuracy, just that it's in the ballpark

Thanks for this! Your colors of you talking in this video look great. And perfect focus as well. I assume you were on manual focus. Another possible tip I found yesterday when messing with my colors. In the auto white balance settings it allows you to adjust the hue. I'm going to start shooting white AWB set to B1 (blue 1) which helps get rid of the orange skin tone out of camera. 👍

It can't hurt. With the Ninja using 4:2:2 you could use V-Log and squeeze out a bit more DR but all up to you.

John, I was looking for this discussion. This was the perfect tutorial! I got a G9 bcs of the price and also bcs GH5 has such a gr8 reputation. Now, I am trying to extract the best quality from it. I am assessing standard, natural, and cinelike D. In the case of real estate, where dynamic range is very important, do you suggest the profile you showed in this video? Thanks in advance

That's a great question. Specifically for real estate I'm assuming you don't need 4k 60fps. V-Log (in 10 bit) or HLG may actually give more dynamic range here but it will be more difficult to color grade. I think this cinelike d will be perfectly fine for an all around profile if you do more than real estate. Id say the best thing to do would be to test it out. Use my settings, this LUT and give it a shot against HLG and VLog and see what you like better.

Hey John, thank you for sharing your LUTs. I've been trying to understand what you mean with "sliders tweaked", but when I search for it, I only find results on slide transitions, not on color grading. Maybe you could record a new video on how you use your LUTs in Adobre Premiere. Thank you John for this great channel!

He means he adjusted the image with sliders, on those images, not with a lut. OR, that he used the lut AND tweaked with sliders on top. I think the later.

What's your opinion on 10-bit HLG that comes with the new firmware update? Is it difficult to bring colors back to real life? Would you still pick cinelike-d over that? Why or why not?

I like HLG. It's actually probably better than cinelike d. The problem is that HLG is not available for 4k 60fps and I use that quite often. If rather have 4k 60fps than HLG 4k 30fps or 1080p 60fps.

I really like cinelike D a lot of times the colors are so accurate I dont even do anything

It's a bit weird with skin. For some reason it darkens skin and makes it a bit too orange/yellow. I used to lighten skintones and desaturate a bit but this works a little better

I struggeled a bit finding wether to use Cinelike-D or Cinelike-V, and ended up using the second one since I'm shooting most of the time in Full HD 10 bits, thanks to the 2.0 firmware update.
