Fix for GPS issue after replacing LCD screen on Xiaomi Mi Max 2

In my case I have not needed to put the aluminum foil, it has only happened that the connection that comes out through the hole of the screen had been lifted, so it did not make contact, it was only put it in its original position so that the pins can make contact, and the GPS has worked again. Anyway I would never have found the solution without your video, thank you very much for sharing. The GPS of the Xiaomi mi Max 2 is very very good, it always displays a minimum of 20 satellites.

Excellent. Thank you for sharing. My problem was poor Bluetooth so I thought I would look at what you had done and see if there were any more bent pins. There should have been a foil contact strip on the new screen to attach to the GPS, but that was missing on my screen. I had also noticed a second tab missing which connected to the same copper square. It's just the other side of the camera in the corner. I added foil to both of these pins and my Bluetooth is fixed. GPS works too but I was not aware if that was faulty. I also noticed that when WiFi contact spring was missing so that got a blob of foil too. WiFi working too. Brilliant. I am reassured that had I paid the repair shop that did the screen replacement video, to do my screen, that their GPS and Bluetooth would not have worked either. Those two foil strips were missing on the video too. I love my mimax2 even though it is 5 years old. Thank you 👍

It worked just like a charm thank you. Before doing it like you I notice the original connection actually goes under the case (below the screen) and come up by a hole. It ripes pretty easily be careful when you change the screen. One more time thank you mister.

I had a GPS problem after replacing the broken screen on my Xiaomi Mi A2. A Google search led me to this video, which gave me the idea to look for a missing antenna. It turns out the new screen with frame is too cheap to include all the parts. You can confirm if this is the cause of your problem by comparing carefully the broken old screen with the new one as I did. My new screen's frame is missing two antennas near the left and right edges at the top. I believe one is for the GPS and the other is for Wifi. The antennas are on small plastic tabs glued to the frame. It was easy for me to remove them from the old frame with tweezers and put them on the new one. After this, the GPS worked flawlessly and the Wifi stopped having intermittent dropped connections.

Great tip - that fixed my problem - I used some isolated thin wire to connect the big copper foil to the very small foil sticking up from the camera hole (some soldering involved) - looks like the small foil would normally be attached to the copperfoil but got torn apart

Worked for me also. Phone repair shop could not fix it despite 3 trips. I used copper adhesive tape instead. adhesive is conductive also.

Hi Denis, after I replace my LCD screen I had the same problem with the GPS and also mi WIFI lost a lot of power, I can only use WIFI a few meters from the router. Do you thinks that this solution is suitable to me?

Hi Carlos, defenitely sounds like it. You probably also need the WiFi fix, check my other video for that. Take your time and use the right tools, also download a "GPS strength app" and measure before and after the fix (measure outside the house to connect to GPS satellites). Good luck!

Since I replaced my Mi Max 2 screen, my GPS still works but the errors are up to 40 metres and can be quite erratic with unusual zig zags when I am tracking my cycling. Was that the same as the problem you had with GPS?

Yes same problem. No accuracy. You can download apps that show you how many GPS satellites you are connected to. You will see that the number will increase drastically if you do this fix. Good luck!

@@goog646 Make sure you have real good lighting, order the right tools at AliExpress, take your time and work very precise. If you feel it's too difficult maybe better to bring to a repair shop before braking anything else. Good luck!

@@denis_can_help3519 Thanks Denis. I just finished putting it back together again. I removed the aluminum foil and made sure the rubber frame for the camera was seated properly. (I don't know which caused the problem but the camera works again.)

Denis, I tried again. I used the GPS Test app to check my result. Before the repair, none of the satellites had a signal strength above 30. After the repair, I had at least seven satellites reading above 40. The accuracy also improved from 14 metres to 5 metres. So thank you very much for your video.

@ I did not. This is different from the Mi A2 and I couldn't find any information on where the GPS module is on the A2. I just swapped back to the old broken screen and everything is working again...
