Great video! Is this kind of connection also considered a bypass? I think the dashboard indicator might be unable to detect whenever the LED light is malfunctioning. Do you think using a resistor might have the potential for overheating and durability issues? Or do you think changing the turn signal flasher is a better way to do it instead? Thanks!
@diodedynamics2 жыл бұрын
The reason we add a resistor is because the LED is using much less power than the factory halogen. So, the computer thinks there is a bulb out. This is what causes bulb-out warnings and hyperflash. The resistor puts resistance on the circuit, tricking the computer into thinking that there is a halogen bulb still in the socket. These resistors do get very hot, but are built to handle the heat. We recommend mounting them away from any flammable parts or parts that can melt for this reason. However, if you can find a flasher relay for your vehicle, this is always a much easier option!

Don't the wires have to be stripped first, it does look like they are in the above video.
@diodedynamics6 жыл бұрын
No, the wires don't need to be stripped. Just be sure that the metal splicer goes all the way through the wires to make a proper connection. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact us!

So you dont have to do any cutting

Nope! You should be able to use our quick splice connectors to easily connect the resistors! Feel free to reach out to us at contact@diodedynamics.com if you have any installation related questions!

This video is a little misleading because it glosses over that some LED bulbs come pre-installed with resistors and or the taillight / front light relay can be upgraded to accept "hyper flash" LED bulbs. Note that some vehicles may also only have a relay for the rear lights and not the front in which case you may have to use a resistor (or bulb with an included resistor). Also, note that using the proper size of resistor is also key as the larger the resistor the hotter they get and some can resist more power than desired to properly / fully illuminate the LED bulb. Lastly, this simple method of clip install is really the "cheap, quick, and dirty" style. It's really better to cut the wires, strip off 3/4" from each end, slide over 1.5" of heat-shrink on one side, braid the wires together (not twist up wire nut style), solder the connection, then slide the heat shrink over and lightly heat with a lighter to seal the ends for waterproofing. Lastly, resistors should be mounted on metal with screws or double sided thermal tape made to withstand heat. (like what is made for computer chips)

Could you not just maybe splice and solder the resistor in line with the wire instead of using a T-Tap?
@sirwhitecrayon24997 жыл бұрын
That's the best way to do it. Cut a 1/4 section of insulation off, take small butane torch or soldering iron, tape and done.
@nicholasromund81506 жыл бұрын
If you put the resistor in series with the bulb like you're saying you will be putting way too much current though the led.. you can solder like you're saying but you need to have the resistor in parallel with the led

Each "location" that has an LED bulb requires a resistor? Each "LED BULB" requires a resistor. I the assembly has two LED bulbs two resistors are required. For this application shown one is ok; if that was a Silverado with two bulbs, two resistors per side would be required.
@TexasEdition2 жыл бұрын
That will last a year at most. Better to splice with heat shrink connectors, or solder directly and use shrink tube.

I have tried installing these bulbs in my 2013 Chevy Silverado with no success. Yes I installed the resistors on all the lights that flash. Guess what still have hyperflash. I don't recommend these LEDs at all. I have spent a lot of money trying to get them to work, enough is enough.

Hey Christian! Many models do not require resistors. It is specific to each vehicle, this is why we offer resistors. We do offer more affordable options for bulbs as well.

There's an easier way to fix hyper blinking. Buy a new electronic flasher. Problem solved. No wiring needed. 🤦🏻♂️ Edit: It just dawned on me why they teach people this... It's so that instead of just buying LEDs from the company will also buy pointless unnecessary resistors. More shit sold = more money for the company. What if they sold you white LEDs and then sold you red covers to install over them for your brake lights? Would you buy them? If your answer was no that's stupid who the fuk would do that? The answer is everybody because that's originally how they sold colored light bulbs.

We appreciate your feedback on this! However, it is important to note that not all vehicles come with a flasher module option. Additionally, we do offer flasher modules on our website as well for the vehicles that do come with a module! Thank you for checking the video out! Here is the link for the flasher modules we offer: www.diodedynamics.com/accessories/led-flashers.html
