Thanks for the tip, I have the fast tach and it has been great. Definitely wasn't cheap!

My apologies! My content has improved a lot since these videos. I’ve been very tempted to delete them to be honest.

Thanks, for the useful information . Please explain and show in detail why you pulled the starter rope out when you turned off the trimmer .

You’re welcome! It protects the mechanism. As the engine comes to a stop if it doesn’t make it past top dead centre, it can come back on itself and overtime that jolt damages the recoil mechanism!

It would be interesting to put an am radio in the general area. You could probably check the rpm by ear. Good video. 🙂

Thanks :) not sure how the radio would work?
@GuysPlayingWithTools Жыл бұрын
@Vintage Engine Repairs You should be able to hear it. No touch tachs work by picking up electrical interference, and you are giving it a bigger field to work with. By nature, AM radios usually don't filter interference well, especially cheap ones. I would think it would pick it up as static from a couple of feet away. 😁

@@Rein_Ciarfella You are 100% right about the plug, but the wires are also shielded and this is bypassing the wire shielding. It would be a fun test.
@KensSmallEngineRepair Жыл бұрын
@@Rein_Ciarfella great point! Resistor plugs greatly reduce rf noise but doesn’t eliminate it all together. Tom, try your experiment with resistor and non- resistor plugs, I’d be curious how stable the readings are used non- contactly

You guys have lost me! All I know is that if I can’t get a signal on equipment I use the inline tester without thick insulation and I can read it 🤣

looks to me like that stihl tach is a piece of garbage if it wont pick up a pulse that close
@VintageEngineRepairs Жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with the tach, it’s the lead specifically on these homelite builds. I have an Oppama tach that is just shy of $400 that is the same.
