If you only use flat collar you will have to leash pop much harder to get the same attention from your dog. The slip lead allows you to use less force and ultimately do fewer corrections.

This is a dog that has issues on leash that the owner clearly came to him for training with. All that he is doing is providing a correction, a pop on the leash/lead. The dog becoming nervous or uncomfortable is because the dog probably never in his life has received that type of correction or communicated in a way that makes sense to him that what he is doing is undesirable or inappropriate. The reward is to add positivity to the correction and reinforce the desired reaction which is " hey stop looking over there and doing that and pay attention to me". Dogs that have little to no training whatsoever and act this way often get nervous or stressed out over a prolonged session purely because training and learning is stressful, just like us, when we study classes and learn new skills it's never seamless and we do get stressed.

@@chrisr-m6568 no I've been a dog trainer for 8 years professionally. I just watched the video and I'm explaining what I'm seeing and explaining how that doesn't encourage or reward nervous anxiety behavior.

Behaviorist also argue that giving the treats can calm them down by giving them a positive memory.
