I love your tutorials, they address real world issues. You are one of the few artists teaching actual skills online. I feel i can apply this technique to some of my weapon models. Thanks

Hello and thank for your tuto ! Very helpful 4:45 Actually the multi cut tool has an option to respect or not the edge flow under the "modeling toolkit tab", in the " cut / insert edge loop tool " section :)

Nice work man! I just finished up a minor hard surface project. I used your technique (taking a cube and shrink wrapping it onto a sphere) and the hardsurface modeling cheat sheet you have to complete it. Im getting good at topo and redirecting but your content is always useful to have on hand. Thanks again man

Plz Use The Set Edge Flow Tool, It Essentially Takes Any Edge Selection And Places It Somewhere Where It Won't Interfere With The Smoothing Of That Area. It'll Pretty Much Align The Selected Edges To An Area Which Fits The Smooth Formula's Spline Math Meaning That The Smoothing Will Look Like You Never Placed The Edge There. This Is The Best Way To Add Information While Keeping Your Smoothing Exactly The Same.

Great videos! I notice you do a lot of multi-cuts and one tip that might be worth mentioning is that you can confirm your multi-cuts by pressing the right mouse button. It's not a huge tip, but might speed up anyone's workflow if they're multi-cutting a lot!

What about doing all the topology on a flat plane (without the extrusions yet) and then do a bend deformer. You get that nice curve and then you can continue to add those grooves with a simple extrusion

That's what I was thinking would've been best.

Great stuff! Very informative too, I'd like to see you do more of these, it helps in my attempts to learn proper topology

As a little tip or sidenote, if you more or less "define" the curvature of your bend before trying to cut your panel you "minimize" the effect two edges close together has so you're less likely in getting into serious pinching and its less forgiving. sure you will end up with a little more of polygons but will increase the visual quality overall

Thanks, nice video. But why no bevels? My teacher learn me to make bevels for every hard surface model, but i see, that a lot of artist just ignore it, and make multycut support lines.
