GREAT STUFF! I was wondering... what videogames did you do 3D art on? I would love to play them! Thanks!

Love your tutorials. The only thing that irks me is some of the poor English grammar and pronunciation... the indefinite article "AN" goes before a word starting with a vowel. For instance, "An article" as opposed to, "A word." I figured it was just, "cool speak" to appeal to the kids like, "Dropping a edge loop." Honestly, maybe this is a thing that some people say, but it's a basic grammar rule. Aside from that, I've learned a lot from your videos. Thank you! I'm sorry if this sounds condescending or patronizing, I just wanted to see if you were aware of this.

are you able to make animations using nCloth or using dynamics with maya 2025? i can't. maya only renders the first frame for the whole sequence. im using arnold. Any advice? i called autodesk and they haven't figured it out either. :( so frustrating.

just wait till you get into leveraging the amazing highly useful sculpt mode paired with edit mode not to mention making stuff with a mirror modifier and subdivision modifier in the stack from the start makes life in blender quite nice like adding weathering or such theres just so many useful tools in sculpt mode paired with the modifiers once you get use to it its a dream like ive done some cad stuff with fusion 360 and solidworks but i much prefer the workflow of blender

The thing is Blender is ridden with shortcuts but once you learn the important ones it’s a breeze to model in it. And of course it’s modifier stack is a big part of how you speed up your workflow by having that non destructive way of modelling just like you would do texturing in substance painter
@MrMOGHammer
@MrMOGHammer 14 күн бұрын
And it’s becoming more and more industry standard within the professional circles. A serious enough option now if you use Unreal Engine 5, or wanna use Substance materials it now has the plugins to integrate into that workflow

With setting hard edges on a subdivision instead of going to the Tools menu, going down to Edge Data, then finally editing the mean crease slider, you can use Shift+E as a shortcut

The workflow you did after redoing the model was universally better than the one you had when learning. I'm not sure if On Mars trolled you, or it was an oversight on his part, but the Mirror Modifier has an option called Clipping that you have to check to prevent the edges from splitting or overlapping. That would have saved you a lot of headaches in the beginning and unnecessary uses of the Knife Tool, which only made the topology worse. In the top corner you can see 3 buttons X, Y, and Z. If you have the Mirror applied, you can press on X to enable symmetry and edit symmetrical vertices at the same time. If you use the Knife on a side it may break it, so it's important to have a clean symmetry from the start. At least the redone mesh had a good topology, and the symmetry option would have worked excellent with it. If you have the mesh split in two, but the edges are touching each other, and you want to merge them, then you can go to Mesh - Clean Up - Merge by Distance.

I find blender has some awesome functionality for more organic shapes, but maya would still be goto for hard surfacing.

I like blender but, the interface im lost. I still use the 2.79 version lol I need to learn this interface, hotkeys and what all these new versions of blender. What it can do now. Is there away to make screen bigger when recording? I couldnt see what your clicking on. I know the old hot keys. Some of them are still the same. I do have one question on extruding edges inward. I don't know if I changed the objects transform orientation but, I couldn't get extrude a square edge inwards. Kepts going to the right. So right now im using the F key to fill and use inset. But I would like to figure out how to fix that orientation issue. I tried, normal. Gimbal all those options.

It took me a bit to get used to the changes made in 2.8, but I would not go back to older versions after, since the new version have new options to make the workflow easier. For your issue, I believe the option you are looking for is Insert Faces, or the shortcut "i". I can't recall if the option was available in 2.79 because I haven't touched it since 2019.

i'm a bit confused as to why "remeshing" is refered to as modifying the topology. The topology is unchanged here... The local parametrisation sure changes tho.. I'm genuinely curious.

Dude I love your content, you're giving amazing tips that help me so much and all, but Bruh. The fact that you took one look at a foldable angled grip and said "yeah that looks like a place for a magazine" when there was already a clear magazine at the rear, REALLY hurt. Also, here's a few limited pieces of gun vocab for future reference: Picatinny rail: That repeatable section that showed up all over the piece, including the top where the sight is mounted Iron Sight: This is a piece of the gun that can be used to aim (NOT attached, like the sight featured on this gun Charging handle: The part of the gun with the loop on either side. That one specifically is ambidextrous as it can be used on either side. Bullpup: A gun that has the trigger in front of the actual firing mechanism. A common characteristic you can look out for is where the magazine is placed. If the magazine is behind the trigger (further from the barrel), then it's a bullpup. Muzzle: The tip of the barrel. It can be multiple various things, but the overarching term that I see used a lot is "muzzle" to refer to the tip of the barrel. Grip: This is a protruding piece of the gun, or an attachment you can put onto the gun, to hold it. Magazine: A solid piece that holds ammo, and feeds it into the gun. If it's permanently attached to the gun, it's called an "internal magazine". Clip: Usually a simple bent piece of metal that holds ammo temporarily, which is pushed off of the clip and into the gun, usually into an internal magazine. Trigger: The trigger is the thing you pull to fire the gun, which is pretty standard information, but I thought I'd mention it just to complete the list. This is by no means exhaustive, there's a lot of things I didn't mention like a gas blowback system and stuff, but the simpler landmarks of guns. I'm no 3d artist of any capacity to even think of rivalling you, and I'm not particularly good at drawing guns in 2d either, but it genuinely gives me psychic damage when I see this sort of thing because I refuse to believe that I know even an ounce more than the average person about firearms despite studying them for a lot longer than should be healthy.

This video is so so useful and interesting as an intermediate blender user- I hardly get to see a perspective from an industry pro as is , but seeing two fluent modelers troubleshoot together is so cool because A) it is reassuring that some of my issues even a pro has. And B) Tutorials don't ever show the 10 different ways someone may have thought to fix an issue, its very interesting to see what a pros first reaction to modeling is, and then having immediate peer feedback to either correct or approve.

You made a few mistakes when you were using bevel you added extra geometry you had to select the boundary loops and not the face but the edges.

in many 3D models for games the topology is mostly made out of triangles, because these are much more easier to render than cubes or N-gons, because triangles no matter how much you deform them thay will always be a straight surface, but when the model is still in the modelling phase its better to not have any N-gons and have a topology made out of squares.

I have a newbie doubt. In that complex shape that was shown in the beginning (1:04), if it already looks fine in unsmooth mode why is it necessary for it to look good in subd mode? Why subd it? Aren't you 4x ing the number of polys by subding. Can't you just leave it as unsmoothed?
